How many eggs do you use for an omelette?

Thinking of having omelette for lunch, I'm undecided on how many eggs to use. I used to use 3, but recently have been having 2, but I'm quite hungry today but 3 feels a bit greedy 🤔

YABU - Use one, dont be a pig.

YANBU - Have allll the eggs, and chuck some cheese in to too.

I would do 2 and some cheese if just for me

Jellybean85 · 13/02/2024 09:14

Omlette on its own or with just a few steamed veg on the side = 3 eggs

Omlette with a side of bread or something = 2 eggs for me

OrigamiOwls · 13/02/2024 09:14

An omelette is 3 for me + some cheese.

It's an egg, you're not laying under a chocolate fountain with your mouth open.

Clarich007 · 13/02/2024 09:14

Oh I love omelettes , and use 2 eggs normally.
If you're hungry though go for it ! At least eggs are nutritious.
It's not like you are having 3 Big Macs.
Enjoy your lunch 🙂

3, bunch of veg, cheese, 1 toast. 4 if no toast. It's a main meal, not a snack

Hoglet70 · 13/02/2024 09:28

Never less than 2, usually 3 plus cheese and a big salad.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 13/02/2024 09:29

2 because I find eggs difficult to digest, not because I'm dainty.

AllTheUsernamesLeftAreShit · 13/02/2024 09:31

Chilli Heeler says three or four, and frankly everything that dog says is gospel.

caringcarer · 13/02/2024 09:32

3 if for dinner or 2 if at lunch time. Usually with a bit of grated cheese and ham.

BananaSplitsss · 13/02/2024 09:32

Three plus fillings .

Makes a lovely omelette. Add salad too

Yum 😋

Muddywalks34 · 13/02/2024 09:32

Always 2 with some tomatoes, mushroom, chilli flakes and a sprinkle of cheese, my go to quick and tasty lunch

toastofthetown · 13/02/2024 09:34

I have 2-3 depending on how hungry I am. Eggs are very nutritious, so I don’t see a problem with having an extra egg if I want one.

Fairyliz · 13/02/2024 09:37

Surely it depends if this is your main meal of the day?
You say it’s for lunch so I assume you will be having a large cooked meal this evening? If so surely two eggs is enough. If you are having a snack tonight then three eggs plus cheese and salad is fine.

HurdyGurdy19 · 13/02/2024 09:37

This is a well-timed thread for me, as during my wide-awake-at-3am ponderings this was on my mind.

Despite only ever buying free range eggs, I have never had a double yoked egg (I know you can buy them, but I've never seen them).

I would use two large eggs to make an omelette - but if the first egg I cracked was double yoked, would that still count as one egg, or would it be two?

RedRosie · 13/02/2024 09:37

I'd say 2 eggs and a small pan. My absolute favourite lunch is a spring onion, red pepper and chilli omelette, finished off under the grill with a sprinkle of cheese.

BurbageBrook · 13/02/2024 09:39

2 for me, 3 for my DH.

BrutusMcDogface · 13/02/2024 09:39

2 or 3 for me, depending on how hungry I am, but always with onion/tomato/pepper/mushroom/all of the above, and cheese! Mmmmmm.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 13/02/2024 09:40

3, two isn't nearly enough. I had one last night with a bit of left over roast (mumsnet) chicken, mushrooms, spring onions and cheese.

teenagetantrums · 13/02/2024 09:40

3 eggs, cheese and mushrooms. I don't normally have anything with an omelette though.

Tisfortired · 13/02/2024 09:41

2 large eggs and something in it, cheese, ham spring onions and a side of coleslaw is my fave 😋

Davros · 13/02/2024 09:43

Same issue when doing scrambled eggs. 2 is not enough, 3 is too many. For lunch alone I should say

Somepeoplearesnippy · 13/02/2024 09:45

I do one whole egg but add 2 eggs worth of pasteurised egg white. It's lighter than a normal omelette but still filling and delicious.

PeanutAndBanana · 13/02/2024 09:52

I had an omelette last night and used three eggs, which is unusual for me but they needed using. It was much more satisfying. Two is not an-oeuf.

doodleygirl · 13/02/2024 09:54

I had 2 eggs last night with mushrooms, courgette and cheese, delish.
