How many eggs do you use for an omelette?

Thinking of having omelette for lunch, I'm undecided on how many eggs to use. I used to use 3, but recently have been having 2, but I'm quite hungry today but 3 feels a bit greedy 🤔

YABU - Use one, dont be a pig.

YANBU - Have allll the eggs, and chuck some cheese in to too.

I can only make omelettes according to LL Cool J in Deep Blue Sea: 'The perfect omelette is 2 eggs not 3, amateurs add milk for density... this is a mistake.'
Would genuinely rather make 2 omelettes than a 4-6 egg mutant omelette.

Peak Mumsnet. There will be a 'massive salad' a few threads down, mark my words.

nomoretoriesforme · 14/02/2024 01:33

2 per person

Crazycatlady79 · 14/02/2024 02:15

Don't eat eggs anymore, but I used to use 3 eggs, but only one of the egg's yolks.

bogbabe · 14/02/2024 09:26

In France it's a single egg.

One egg is en oeuf

You're welcome

TomeTome · 14/02/2024 09:41

The French are ridiculous if they think a single egg makes an omelette. I’d call that barely a flavoured burp.

surely an egg is about the same calories as an apple so snack territory.

TheDogdidGood · 14/02/2024 09:44

Two for me, but will use 5 if I’m making one for two people. Have no idea why!!!

I love his character in "Deep Blue Sea" 😎

For me it depends on when or why I'm making an omlette & if it's just for me? If it's just me I'd easily eat 3/4 with A LOT some cheese especially if it's my main meal

No it isn't, it's 2 or 3. I live in France, married to a Frenchman and no way does only one egg make an omelette here!

Three plus spinach spring onion and feta

salad on the side

side note - have you got an omelette maker? My mom bought me one and I thought it was stupid but it actually makes them soooooo fluffy!

An omelette is 3 for me + some cheese.

It's an egg, you're not laying under a chocolate fountain with your mouth open.

Life is short. Have 3 eggs and then do the fountain afterwards.

DelphiniumBlue · 15/02/2024 06:13

2 eggs for mine, 3 for DS. Mine come with grated cheese and spinach, DS has mushroom, cheese and ham in his, maybe spinach and peppers too. Never with bread or toast, the whole point is the low carbs! If we were having toast, then it would be scrambled eggs ( 2 each) with mushrooms or spinach separately.

SpongeBob2022 · 15/02/2024 06:24

I'd only eat omelette as a main meal. I would only have 2 eggs but it would be accompanied by something like homemade potato wedges and veg or salad with it too.

Basically the omelette is like the meat component of the meal for me and not the whole thing. (ETA I don't really do low carb)

Don't know what's funnier, the joke or the serious responses to it.

As its MN, just half en egg for me (and a massive salad of course)

BobnLen · 15/02/2024 07:15

I use two but DH uses three for himself if he's cooking one

Poudretteite · 15/02/2024 07:19

On its own - 4
With vegetables - 3
On toast - 2

Poudretteite · 15/02/2024 07:20

PS eggs are healthy and they're only what, 75 cal? Have an extra egg. Live a little.

No but I did once make an omelette in a sandwich toaster/maker.

I've had 3 eggs and a little bit of veg in it, and avocado on the side, the last 2 days, and not been hungry for my dinner.

This is a well-timed thread for me, as during my wide-awake-at-3am ponderings this was on my mind.

Despite only ever buying free range eggs, I have never had a double yoked egg (I know you can buy them, but I've never seen them).

I would use two large eggs to make an omelette - but if the first egg I cracked was double yoked, would that still count as one egg, or would it be two?

I had 10 out of 12 supermarket eggs be double yolkers many a year ago. We were amazed!!

They have an elongated shape and are usually laid by pullets. You are more likely to see them in local eggs as the supermarket ones are sorted for size and shape.

Had one last night, 2 eggs plus yolk, sesame king prawns and spring onion 🤤

Please tell me more about this omelette maker. I just use a pan but they always stick so I end up with just a mess of egg and fillings not so much the actual omelette...
