How many eggs do you use for an omelette?

Thinking of having omelette for lunch, I'm undecided on how many eggs to use. I used to use 3, but recently have been having 2, but I'm quite hungry today but 3 feels a bit greedy 🤔

YABU - Use one, dont be a pig.

YANBU - Have allll the eggs, and chuck some cheese in to too.

How do you know if it's one of two main meals a day or just a light lunch? You can't tell much based on one meal.

Light lunch 4 eggs, main meal 6 👍

takealettermsjones · 13/02/2024 10:31

I have 3-4 and then if I don't want it all, freeze the rest in strips for my kids.

We have two eggs five days a week for breakfast so I've never felt like another four or six for another meal.

I confess to being a greedy pig. I don't have omelette often, but when I do, it's "go big or go home" 🤣

StoatofDisarray · 13/02/2024 10:44

Three. Two seems miserly, one is practically a pancake!

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/02/2024 10:45

4 each

justtidying · 13/02/2024 10:46

We have this as our breakfast/brunch most days. DH has 3 with cheese and ham or bacon. I have two with coriander, and a bit of chilli oil.

CasperGutman · 13/02/2024 10:50

Three eggs if I'm just having a omelette and a bit of salad. Two if the omelette is one of the items in a breakfast, e.g., with a couple of rashers of bacon and some toast, or if I want a lighter meal for whatever reason (going to a party where there are likely to be nibbles/snacks, had a massive feed earlier, etc.).

JMSA · 13/02/2024 11:05

3 or 4 Grin

samthebordercollie · 13/02/2024 11:10

I'm a protein nerd so have 2 whole eggs plus 3-400ml egg whites

Snoken · 13/02/2024 11:34

I just had an omelette for lunch yesterday, panfried spinach, tomatoes, garlic and mushrooms and poured over 2 beaten egges with a bit of seasoning and then grated pecorino cheese over it at the end. Was enough for me as a lunch but if it was just eggs and no veg it wouldn't have been enough I think.

crikeycrumbs · 13/02/2024 11:38

For me: 2 if it's for lunch, 3 if it's for dinner.

For DH: 3-4 for lunch, 5-6 for dinner with chips and salad on the side.

I know, I know. I have no idea how he can eat 5-6 eggs like that either. He distance runs a lot so I guess that's likely why. He's a healthy weight!

Four otherwise I’m hungry and will eat biscuits.

Those saying two, would you just have half a sandwich for lunch? (Ie one piece of bread) I’m thinking about the calorie equivalents.

erinaceus · 13/02/2024 11:45

2 for me, with some sides and/or fillings. I like fried onions in my homemade omelettes.

But I’m at a hotel rn and just had what I think must have been a three egg omelette from the omelette station for breakfast and I have to say I can see the advantages.

HopefulElle · 13/02/2024 11:54

For a lunch I do 2 egg whites and 1 yolk, but have lots of veggies to make it more filling. Onions, spinach, peppers & mushrooms topped with Tabasco is my favourite!

BobbyBiscuits · 13/02/2024 11:58

I like to make a big fat omelette with at least 4 eggs, tons of veg- peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach, potatoes, and cheese on top, almost like a tortilla, served with hot sauce. Great hangover cure. This serves 2-3 people so you could share it or have leftovers. It takes a bit longer than normal omelette I guess and you need to finish it under the grill.

I don't know calories, but I'd use butter to cook, cheese on top, avocado on the side. Is that only half a sandwich?

Fionaville · 13/02/2024 12:01

2 if it's for lunch. 3 if it's my evening meal. If you're really hungry though, go 3 (and have the cheese) There are worst things you could have then an extra egg!

WorriedMillie · 13/02/2024 12:03

I just made one for brunch, 2 eggs, half an avocado and a sprinkle of cheese, with chilli flakes ❤️

OneTC · 13/02/2024 12:03

2 plus 1 yolk

ArsMamatoria · 13/02/2024 12:06

Your lunch sounds lovely and very nutritious. I usually use 2 or 3 large eggs.

phishy · 13/02/2024 12:07

it depends. If I'm just having an omelette and one veg then I'll have 3 eggs.

If I'm having an omelette with other foods on the side (like brocolli, avocado, tomatoes, mushroom, spinach) then I'll just have a 2 egg omelette.

I don't eat bread so have lots of veggies.

Kalevala · 13/02/2024 12:08

OneTC · 13/02/2024 12:03

2 plus 1 yolk

This would be my ideal, I love a double yolker. Do you use the white for something else?

I'm not getting the whites equal protein thing from other posters, yolks are coming up as higher in protein and also other important nutrients.

MissingMoominMamma · 13/02/2024 12:08

I’ve just had an omelette. Two large organic eggs; five asparagus spears and two large mushrooms (chopped). Salt and pepper.

If the eggs had been smaller, I’d have had three.

TomeTome · 13/02/2024 12:09

3 (minimum!). Honestly laughing at the thought of freezing any leftovers or a 4 egg omelette serving 3/4 people. Are you totally bonkers? Eat FFS it’s an egg.
