Why am I being asked by the NHS if my 8 month old baby 'still identifies as the gender assigned at birth?'

Beatricebotterx · 02/02/2024 20:44

We had a medical concern with our 8 month old baby, so I rang 111 for advice, we got directed to a lovely nurse to ask further questions, all going well until she asked....

'Does she identify as the gender assigned at birth?'

Oh wait a minute, let me just ASK her..

Surely parents wouldn't have made that decision to 'change the gender' of their baby?

What is going on, I understand the question may need to be asked for older teenagers/adults but a baby?!?!

Aibu to feel a bit annoyed and confused?

I am 71 and two days earlier had had a total hysterectomy. Nurse came over to do my admission papers (!) . She asked , without a flicker, if I could be pregnant! Yes, I know they have to ask the questions on the screen or paperwork but common sense should also apply

Bloody hell....... why is no discretion allowed? Seems so cold to ask that after what you have been through too!

Because they have been captured by Marxist loons and dodgy child groomers who pretend to champion inclusivity but basically have sinister aims. And all this lunacy is paid for the by the taxpayer. Madness.

You need your meds reviewed.

PonyPatter44 · 02/02/2024 23:08

It's a stupid bloody question that has no place in health provision.

Allthatglittersisntart · 02/02/2024 23:08

To be fair, they do have to ask a whole range of irrelevant questions on 111(like the whole range of heart attack signs when you have are phoning about a broken bone). They’re probably not allowed to use discretion to deviate from the list.

Josette77 · 02/02/2024 23:11

When I brought my son home from Ethiopia I was asked if he had a criminal record or was previously married.

He was 16 months old. Lol

It was on the from though. We laughed.

StarlightLime · 02/02/2024 22:58

The question is irrelevant, no matter who it relates to. Your biological sex may be relevant to some medical treatment, gender bollocks certainly isn't.

Then the complaint is against the person who designed the questionnaire not the person completing it.

Justifiedcheese · 02/02/2024 21:02

Because it's a pro forma. Do you get agitated by questions about religion or level of education?

No. Wonder why not?🙄

Id think it was very odd if I was asked about the educational of my baby. Come to think of it, no one in healthcare has ever asked me about my own. Maybe they think it’s not relevant to my medical care. 🙄

Same as my politics and religion.

This is is a terrible response to a post you disagree with. "I don't agree with you so you must have a mental illness"

Sunsetboardwalk · 02/02/2024 23:14

It is the same as being asked your religion really isn't it.

Copperoliverbear · 02/02/2024 23:17

The world has gone fucking nuts and there's more to come.

blackpanth · 02/02/2024 23:18

That's ridiculous

DiscoBeat · 02/02/2024 23:20

The forms are for everyone. Easier than trying to tailor forms to different people. Obviously no one is trying to suggest your 8 month old has had a sex change.

Do you think they ask 4 year olds about their religion or level of education?

If so you may well have a point.

They don't.

Mittemucci · 02/02/2024 23:22

Changingplace · 02/02/2024 20:47

I’d lose my shit at this, she wasn’t assigned a gender her sex was observed, the NHS needs to sort this nonsense out.

But she was assigned a gender…. Based on the observation of her sex…….

DiscoBeat · 02/02/2024 23:23

It's quicker to ask the question and complete the form than to consider every question and make a judgement as to whether it is relevant to this person due to their age, gender, sex, ethnicity, religion etc.

This. I just put a line through questions that obviously don't apply.

This. It’s insanity and has to stop. The damage being done is huge

My 2.5 year old had to swear an oath to the queen to receive citizenship.

i asked how that worked in practice and I had to swear on her behalf. I’m a staunch anti-royal.

most pointless exercise ever

AllGrownUp1465 · 02/02/2024 23:29

Some teenagers were convicted of brutally targeting and murdering a young transgender person today, and your concern is that someone asked about your baby’s gender? 🙃

good to see mumsnet is still the harbinger of moral outrage and pearl clutching when it comes to discussing gender…

Wow! So someone has an opinion that differs from yours and they're what? Suffering some sort of mental health breakdown and off their meds? What a disgusting comment.

What is the relevance?? Btw, the murder victim's trans status was as irrelevant to the crime as these questions, that's already been established.

When does that happen? Didn't happen to any of my children.

It says in all the papers ‘The teenage pair who murdered Brianna Ghey have been sentenced to life in prison for an “exceptionally brutal” killing partly motivated by her transgender identity.’

partly motivated by it at the very least

It is the same as being asked your religion really isn't it.

No, it isn't. An equivalent question would be 'Do you believe in gender identity ideology'.

CranfordScones · 02/02/2024 23:38

People can't see the connection between this nonsense and the mess the NHS has become.

Just wait until we have a government that actively enables this type of ideological capture. You haven't seen anything yet. Soon we'll have entire public services that exist in order to serve a warped ideology rather than serving patients or pupils.
