Why am I being asked by the NHS if my 8 month old baby 'still identifies as the gender assigned at birth?'

Beatricebotterx · 02/02/2024 20:44

We had a medical concern with our 8 month old baby, so I rang 111 for advice, we got directed to a lovely nurse to ask further questions, all going well until she asked....

'Does she identify as the gender assigned at birth?'

Oh wait a minute, let me just ASK her..

Surely parents wouldn't have made that decision to 'change the gender' of their baby?

What is going on, I understand the question may need to be asked for older teenagers/adults but a baby?!?!

Aibu to feel a bit annoyed and confused?

You just have to wonder how much all this nonsense costs the NHS in time, forms, Robbins and Circus nonsense.

Eaglemom · 02/02/2024 22:35

You are a little sheltered if you think the NHS doesn’t come across 9 year olds who don’t smoke or take drugs. They can’t discriminate by class or other factors so they will ask.

Eaglemom · 02/02/2024 22:32

Just laugh about how ridiculous that is like many things are and get on with your life. It won’t affect any of you in the long run will it? It’s silly to a baby obviously, but ticks a box in the grand scheme of things and the huge demographic of people the nhs serves, but there’s a funny side. Think how absolutely massive the NHS is, it can’t individualise questions to each person so it is what it is.

Well of course it goes without saying!

I just find it strange that there is no common sense / limited flexibility with these questions, the poor staff members end up getting the brunt of the frustration of members of the public because the questions end up being stupid!!

The fact that a nurse above said that they have to ask all men if they are pregnant, when they must have on their medical records that their sex is male, and therefore biologically impossible, blows my mind!

Be very hard not to just hang up so fucking stupid what the hell is happening to society.

Butterandtoast · 02/02/2024 22:37

They have to ask it because the loons who fuck around with their baby's gender are coincidentally the same ones who are overly offended by everything and complain non-stop

maeveiscurious · 02/02/2024 22:37

I complain every time

GrumpyPanda · 02/02/2024 22:38

@Frozenasarock
It’s not hard to say “yes she does”, roll your eyes and move on.

That would be factually wrong though. Even by the standard of the cultists. So it would have to be no she doesn't and eye roll.

CackleQueen · 02/02/2024 22:38

I know of someone whose DH was asked what gender the baby identified as, at the hospital…the baby was less than 2 hours old.

PotatoPrimo · 02/02/2024 21:11

My DF, who is severely disabled, went into hospital for routine tests recently. The staff were not able to manage his lack of mobility and as a result he had to deal with indignities able bodied people would not have to deal with.
Theres another thread on MN at the moment by a poster who’s learning disabled DD is receiving terrible care.
So much for being inclusive.
But rainbow lanyards and asking babies for their gender identity = inclusivity in the NHS.
The shoddy treatment of disabled people, not that important.

Because virtue signalling about trans blah is cheap, but an ounce of consideration for disabled patients might actually require a bit of imagination. Wankers.

Because they have been captured by Marxist loons and dodgy child groomers who pretend to champion inclusivity but basically have sinister aims. And all this lunacy is paid for the by the taxpayer. Madness.

This has nothing to with Marx. It is capitalism at its finest. Take a healthy child and give them puberty blockers, then cross-sex hormones for life. Crete lots of chronic health problems. It's a perfect little money-spinner

BobbyBiscuits · 02/02/2024 22:41

It's just rubbish survey routing. Of course it should not be asked of babies. People need to know they exist before they start realising what gender they are! It should be filtered so only asked of people over, what 5? That seems OTT as well TBH as I really don't believe that someone can know for sure if they are trans until they start puberty. I guess if it was upto me it would be asked of kids over about 9. There's a massive drive to collect statistics about trans people now, since they introduced the question in the census.

Mumoftwo1312 · 02/02/2024 22:45

It's funny how quickly it's changed... at my gp, when I registered my newborn recently it asked his sex and, separately, what gender he identifies as. I wrote in the feedback form what a silly q for a newborn.

BUT when I registered my newborn dd 3y ago, they didn't ask that, but they did ask...

"Do you smoke? A) I currently smoke, B) I have never smoked, C) I used to smoke but now I quit."

She was 1 week old lol how could she have smoked in the past but now quit? I pointed that out in the feedback form and interestingly that question's now gone! Maybe they read the feedback..!

Whoever writes the questions for these forms is not a doctor, it's a dim witted Ark B type.

Delphiniumandlupins · 02/02/2024 22:46

It's quicker to ask the question and complete the form than to consider every question and make a judgement as to whether it is relevant to this person due to their age, gender, sex, ethnicity, religion etc.

Those damn Marxists...

The Communist Party is the only political party with a coherent political analysis of sex and gender. Gender as an ideological construct should not be confused or conflated with the material reality of biological sex. Gender is the vehicle through which misogyny is enacted and normalised. Gender identity ideology is well- suited to the needs of the capitalist class, focusing as it does on individual as opposed to collective rights, enabling and supporting the super-exploitation of women.

This!

The thing is, the question had absolutely no relevance to the medical advice we needed anyway!

It’s a 111 call center, they’re working to a script and getting snarky with the person at the other end or giving smart arse answers is unreasonable, they don’t set the questions. Whenever I phone they apologise in advance if the questions seem irrelevant but they they have to ask everyone, presumably because they always ask a bunch of questions about bleeding, breathing, consciousness etc even if you already explained the reason you called was your child had earache. They’re covering all bases.

It’s not hard to say “yes she does”, roll your eyes and move on.

Thats it.
I have called them for a sprain, and had to answer questions about my breathing, fever, and all sorts of nonsense unrelated to a traumatic injury.
I have also had to answer the exact same questions when I called at another time with a gum infection!

Its just a script they have to follow, so just answer the questions and move on

montelbano · 02/02/2024 22:54

I am 71 and two days earlier had had a total hysterectomy. Nurse came over to do my admission papers (!) . She asked , without a flicker, if I could be pregnant! Yes, I know they have to ask the questions on the screen or paperwork but common sense should also apply

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 02/02/2024 22:54

I’m amazed they didn’t check if the eight month old was pregnant too 🤦🏻‍♀️. These ‘standard’ questions are ridiculous.

The world has gone crazy!

RosesAndHellebores · 02/02/2024 22:56

Unspeakable.
Merits a debate about the inquiries understanding of sex and gender.
If this is what NHS staff are wasting their time in, they cannot possibly be super busy.

The question is irrelevant, no matter who it relates to. Your biological sex may be relevant to some medical treatment, gender bollocks certainly isn't.

arlequin · 02/02/2024 22:58

Tbf baby DS had an MRI today and had to tick whether he could be pregnant or had any tattoos

GreyCarpet · 02/02/2024 22:59

'Does she identify as the gender assigned at birth?'

"She's pre verbal. How would I know?"

"She wasn't assigned a gender at birth."

No.it's not the fault of the person asking but this nonsense needs a mirror held up to it.

Fraaahnces · 02/02/2024 23:03

That’s even dumber than when I was asked “Can you ask her if she gets dizzy spells?” When I took my 14m/o to A&E following a seizure. (This was a resident who didn’t seem much older than she was tbh…)
