There were 5 cars ahead of me, and it was 3pm

So annoying and no escape 🤦‍♀️

Given their record on healthy foods and labour rights I've got zero sympathy for you

Lighrbulbmo · 28/01/2024 15:31

Not surprising at all. There are at least two queues on the go all all times these days. You queue to order, queue to pay, queue to get the order. Never used to be like that.
It’s usually the same person the booth doing the order and payments.

mrsbyers · 28/01/2024 15:32

Increasingly they are prioritising delivery companies

My bug bear is being asked to park up when there’s no one behind me in the queue so I’ve started to refuse - amazingly they then serve quickly

This is a common issue in a lot of places. And app and phone orders. You think there's a queue of 4 people, actually there's 20. But they're invisible.

[insert judgemental McD's comment]. Grin

SoOutingWhoCares · 28/01/2024 15:35

I've found a few times (usually too late) that it would have been quicker to select pick up at restaurant on the app rather than drive thru. I tend to only be picking up coffee anyway and by the time I get out sometimes I would have been quicker driving all the way across town to Starbucks or Costa.

catelynjane · 28/01/2024 15:37

Where we are, it's always been quicker to park, go in and order on the screens.

On more than one occasion we've gone in and eaten a full meal before the people at the drive-thru had even managed to get their food.

They're an excellent Employer. Reasonable adjustments forthcoming as they should be, support for ND.
On what evidence do you base your claim in the UK?

Glitterybee · 28/01/2024 16:37

It’s got worse over the last few months hasn’t it?!

Everytime I’m stuck in McDonald’s drive thru I remember and regret instantly. It’s no longer fast food. What used to take 5 mins now takes half an hour!

I hate when you’re asked to park up and you wait ten mins or more and they bring the food out and it’s cold. That makes zero sense, you would think they ask you to park as they’re making your food fresh.

Actually, McDonald's are known for being pretty damn decent employer.

Lizzt2007 · 28/01/2024 16:44

5 cars in front of you plus you is 6 cars , 18 minutes so 3 minutes per car to take the order, take payment, pack the order and hand it over? And you think that's too long!!!

McDonald's is well known for being a great employer.

I don't like it so much now that they have taken most of the fat and salt out, give me an old school chicken nugget any day but usually a Big Mac is better for you than a club from Pret.

That’s what I thought. Doesn’t sound long to me if there were five cars in front 🤷‍♀️

Onabench · 28/01/2024 17:05

YANBU. The biggest issue is Uber eats etc, they cannot cope with the demand. I’ve waited an hour at mine as you literally cannot escape. Fuming isn’t the word. Even got out the car and walked in to ask why it was taking so long.

TBH when you put it like that, it's pretty decent really.

In store does seem much quicker but of course they can take multiple orders at once.

I'm sure, after that comment you only eat high welfare, organic local fair trade foods and never set foot in Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury's any kind of chain restaurant but from Nestlé, PepsiCo, etc...

Even if you do collect from counter it’s the same. The problem is they’re serving all the Uber etc customers.

Our local asks you to park up even if you order only cold drinks!

They really need to make ghost kitchens for the delivery drivers to collect food from so the restaurants can actually function for the other customers.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 28/01/2024 17:13

They are a really good employer and support lots of youngsters in a way that other jobs don’t.

They have done this in some areas , there is one where my sister lives .
@wubwubwub was it the one at the M20 services ( junction 8) , it’s always a 15 minute wait at least , it’s the worst organised McDonald’s in the country I think .

A few of the clown burger flingers round here have remodelled the premises so the delivery drivers are dealt with separately to the instore customers. Not a massive fan myself, but if it's what the team want ...

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2024 17:18

Don't order anything with cream or ice cream to be brought to your table because it will be melted by the time you get it!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 28/01/2024 17:20

Is the opposite at the ones near me, drive thru is the only way to get an order in decent time. Going in to order from the screens means a huge long wait (while watching just eat and Uber eats drivers coming in every five seconds to collect a massive order). It drives me mad. It's meant to be fast food!

Debtfreegoals · 28/01/2024 17:28

It’s all gone down hill since the introduction of deliveroo etc.
