To think it shouldn't have taken 18 minutes to get through McDonald's Drive Thru?

There were 5 cars ahead of me, and it was 3pm

Georgie it still doesn't take 45 minutes to make a meal fresh!

I also ordered a few days before for me a special meal as I'm GF.

It didn't come as ordered. I asked for it to be corrected and the staff member decided to tell me off in front of everyone for obviously not ordering it correctly.

I was more than happy to show them the label which did not match the meal inside!

I don't like it now. I liked the fast food and quick drive through model.

It's no longer that and therefore no longer works for me.

They may be a great employer. They do t provide me - the customer - what I'm seeking so I don't use their services 🤷‍♀️

Georgieporgie29 · 28/01/2024 19:54

@itsgettingweird no I agree it doesn’t take 45 minutes for one meal but you don’t know how many meals were in front of you?

tbh I’ve never waited that long for a meal at McDonald’s, I haven’t timed it but I’ve never felt like it was taking too long. I have been asked to park up from the drive through though and admit that’s annoying but I tend to just go in and collect as I find that easier

Tontostitis · 28/01/2024 15:31

Given their record on healthy foods and labour rights I've got zero sympathy for you

Nah, the food is just food and they're in general a good employer.

But I only worked for them for ten years so what do I know?

A long DT wait usually means something has gone wrong inside - no one wants to keep cars waiting because DT is timed and restaurants with continually poor times get into bother at manager level.

Bargello · 28/01/2024 19:58

Agree that the issue is delivery services. I do mystery shopping now and again, had a meal last week at another casual dining brand which is on all of those delivery apps - their target is that your food should be cooked and on the table within 15 minutes of ordering. They missed it by loads and kept us waiting 25 minutes. Restaurant was not busy but there was a constant stream of JustEat/Deliveroo/UberEats drivers.

Moier · 28/01/2024 20:05

@TTontostitis

They are a brilliant employee.. my ASD 18 year old Grandson is at Uni and wanted a part time job.. they employed no problem.. once he declares his ASD...we know that many employers don't want to know.
McDonald's is well known for giving people with disabilities a chance.

What is a ghost kitchen? Can someone explain, I’ve never heard of one before!!

Hankunamatata · 28/01/2024 20:16

That's like 3.5mins per car. That's not loads time

It's basically a replica kitchen that just caters to online orders/deliveries.

CaptainPickles · 28/01/2024 20:18

i guess the deley is also to delivery drivers and then customers in the store too ?

Bargello · 28/01/2024 20:19

I've not heard the term ghost kitchen, but have seen these places referred to as dark kitchens. Basically a large facility on an industrial estate cooking food for brands like GBK, Nandos, Wagamama, Wingstop, etc etc so orders are sent out from the unit rather than a restaurant.

Kazzyhoward · 28/01/2024 20:22

We've gone of them because even when you're served pretty quickly, the food is often cold, nothing worse than cold, soggy fries. I've started taking them back in and asking for fresh instead. You get the usual sighing and eye rolling, but they usually replace.

The problem is that they leave half your order sat on the counter or in a paper bag whilst waiting for other items. They've nowhere to put things to keep them warm. Worse if your order includes ice cream as it's often melted by the time you're ready to eat it if you've had a wait as they dish out the ice cream first, whilst waiting for the burgers etc.

It's definitely just eat and deliveroo that is causing the poor quality issues as they seem to prioritise them to the detriment of customers actually there! Something will have to give as they'll be losing custom.

We tend to complain afterwards to the website and get voucher codes for future discounts, so their delays and cold food is costing them in the long run!

MammaTill2Pojkar · 28/01/2024 20:32

3 minutes per car is quick! It would take longer to cook comparable freezer food than 18 minutes too.

They're an excellent Employer. Reasonable adjustments forthcoming as they should be, support for ND.
On what evidence do you base your claim in the UK?

Excellent employer that have ignored decades of reporting in sexual misconduct and bullying .

firesareinteresting · 28/01/2024 19:32

Why would you even go there?!

For food and drinks.

Geez. You really came on mumsnet to complain you had to wait 18min for food? You were hardly likely to starve. Very selfish, unkind and impatient attitude.

wubwubwub · 28/01/2024 20:59

Brumbies · 28/01/2024 19:28

Really?

You're having a moan about being in line in Maccie D's?

Go home and cook a wholesome meal!

No.

Drive thrus never used to be this slow.

No- not sad. They sell factory farmed, over-processed shit-for-health crap, their packaging causes huge amounts of environmental damage and they treat their staff like rubbish. I'm proud not to be a customer.

Edited

They really don’t, DS works there, they’ve been so supportive, also with other young people I know with MH issues and neurodivergent. They also do a lot for charities in the local branches.

They also seem to stick up for their staff in the face of awful aggressive customers which has never been my experience in the NHS or other employers.

🤣🤣🤣 such an imposition eh?

InAMess2023 · 28/01/2024 21:07

Absolute peak Mumsnet that no one can ask a genuine opinion where fast food is involved without the usual sanctimonious responses 🙄

Well I bloody love a nice greasy McDonald's, and yep even been known to have it delivered despite living less than a mile away (usually if hungover - yes I drink alcohol too!) but sometimes even when working from home on a random rainy Monday.

Clearly I don't belong here! 🤣

SweetBirdsong · 28/01/2024 21:09

revsersalenergy · 28/01/2024 18:32

What a sad thing to be proud of.

@LuluBlakey1

I am proud to say I have never been to MacDonalds in my life.

🙄

I agree with @revsersalenergy . What a sad thing to be proud of.

whynotwhatknot · 28/01/2024 21:20

i agree got worse since dleiveries started-not only do they take priority they use up the parking spaces

i once went waited ages only to be told to park up i looked over (smallcar park) and it was full -so i said there isnt anywer to park she looked flummoxed-i said i'll just wait here thanks and miraculously she went and got my order straight away

wubwubwub · 28/01/2024 21:20

I'd ignore @LuluBlakey1 holier than thou attitude. No doubt she writing the response form an apple product, being charged by a non green energy source, whilst sitting on a sofa made in the far east, wearing clothes from any mainstream shop, eating and drinking something from a multi national company. Or any combination of the above.

Unless she's eating only locally sourced, organic, high welfare food, drinking water and built her own windmill to generate her own electricity etc there's no way she's not supporting a company that exploits workers and it suppliers or the environment in some way.

The click and serve is awful. We used it once and it took ages with the food being cold when given to us. We asked what was going on and they said with click and serve they get it ready as per normal orders and someone takes it out "when they get chance". We go quite often on a Sunday and watch the click and serve wait. Feel bad for them.

If it's any consolation, the staff hate click and serve (and delivery!) just as much as the customers!

why does some of the food seem already cold even when its over the counter service, surley the eg burgers cannot be waiting that long for other items or is it due to batch burgers being made?
