annoyed woman wont move seats on train

Currently on the train with my 5 year old. There’s loads of individual seats but none together so I’m stood next to my daughter who’s sat down next to another woman.
AIBU to be a bit annoyed she’s turned her back on my daughter to avoid eye contact and hasn’t moved to another seat so I can sit next to my daughter?

if there were no other seats I’d completely get it but there’s loads of individual ones

Ask her?

Crackoncrackerjack · 28/01/2024 12:12

And ?

PrettyPleaseXo · 28/01/2024 12:12

She’s turned her back on us and is on the phone or I would haha

Has she reserved her seat ? Could you have reserved seats ?

ditalini · 28/01/2024 12:12

This will not go well for you op.

saltnvini · 28/01/2024 12:13

Have you asked? Is she sat by a window? Maybe she likes the window and not the aisle seats? Perhaps she's booked a seat so is sitting in it.

I don't think you're reasonable to be annoyed if you haven't asked. And even then it's up to her if she moves or not.

If there's loads of other individual seats are these by other people? If so you could ask if any of those people mind moving?

PrettyPleaseXo · 28/01/2024 12:13

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I knew that before I posted I just hoped I’d get some people on side

Wilkolampshade · 28/01/2024 12:14

Can't you just sit on one of these nearby seats?

And? You just say excuse me, would you be up for moving so we can sit together? If not no worries I'll see if someone else is.

olympicsrock · 28/01/2024 12:14

Sounds like she was there first. If you didn’t reserve two seats together you don’t have a leg to stand on.
You can ask but she can also say no .

Damnloginpopup · 28/01/2024 12:14

Meanwhile, my partner has left a cup in the sink without rinsing it .

OpalOrchid · 28/01/2024 12:15

She probably prefers a window seat. Why should she move?

polkadotpeppermint · 28/01/2024 12:15

That’s a shame. I always offer to move so parents can sit with their kids.

Haha! So tap her on the shoulder?

But also, if there are 'loads of individual seats but none together', why not ask someone else?

Or stick your child on your lap?

BaronessBomburst · 28/01/2024 12:17

Ask a man to move. Women are always expected to be accommodating. It gets wearing.

DappledThings · 28/01/2024 12:17

Just ask. YABU to be annoyed if you can't be arsed actually speaking up

Minglemangle007 · 28/01/2024 12:17

Why have you singled out this woman?
Personally I'd probably move but if I had to plug my phone in then I wouldn't!

ReadytoFly · 28/01/2024 12:18

Totally depends if the train is full of reserved seats. If she moves into another seat and then someone gets on who has reserved it, she's left with no seat. If it's not reserved seating, then I think she is being unreasonable not to move. I would.

Yes!

Lenax · 28/01/2024 12:19

Can't you sit your daughter on your lap?

Notimeforaname · 28/01/2024 12:19

Sit down, put 5 year old on your lap. Or use your words and ask.

I actually find men more willing to move anyway

murasaki · 28/01/2024 12:20

If the train is completely is completely unreserved, I'd move, but only if you actually asked me. The longer you stood there huffing and not asking, the funnier I would find it. Reserved seats, not a chance.

GalileoHumpkins · 28/01/2024 12:22

Why should this particular woman move? Why not anyone else?
You're being unreasonable to be annoyed at only one person in this situation.
