annoyed woman wont move seats on train

Currently on the train with my 5 year old. There’s loads of individual seats but none together so I’m stood next to my daughter who’s sat down next to another woman.
AIBU to be a bit annoyed she’s turned her back on my daughter to avoid eye contact and hasn’t moved to another seat so I can sit next to my daughter?

If she's reserved the seat there's no reason why she should move. I have two train journeys booked in April and I've reserved window table seats and I won't be moving.

Sit in one of the individual vacant seats and put your child on your lap.

At 5 surely your daughter can be in a different set of seats from you. If there is loads of individual seats you won't be far apart, a row or two at most.

Of course we should move if we can. Some need a window seat, some an aisle, some might have reasons why they won't sit next to the opposite sex. But this is a situation were we should be showing a bit of kindness and before that gets leaped on, to my surprise, it's often younger men showing decency on public transport. Me and my adult DD often move so a family can have the four/six seats together.

Said by someone who has clearly not been on a modern train, you can barely fit a phone on your lap, never mind a whole child

OP make a man move, they need to learn to be more accommodating

Not all train have seat reservations systems.
@PrettyPleaseXo Sit down with your daughter on your lap. Hopefully she will fidget enough to annoy the other woman and she will move 😂
Or just ask her.
Or ask someone else with an empty seat next to them.

I don't understand why you can't just stand next to your daughter. Why should be the woman sitting be inconvenienced so you don't have to be?

Why have you singled out this particular woman? You say she's on her phone, so why not find someone available and ask to swap?

If she is too old to sit on your lap then she is old enough to sit by herself whilst you move further up the carriage.

YANBU. Some people are unreasonable thoughtless. I expect she just can’t be arsed to get up. It happens to me and my youngest DC loads of times. Once I found two seats, each in a separate pair across the aisle from each other but one of them was by the window and the other by the aisle so I had to sit by the window with a man beside me and between me and DS. DS was only young and a bit anxious so he kept leaning across to talk to me and I had to try to speak over the man beside me who sat there determinedly ignoring us and looking at his phone.

The truth is these people either can’t be arsed to move, as said above, or, more often are being purposely unhelpful in the hope you’ll move. They’re the same family as the bag people who sit on crowded trains with their bag taking up the seat beside them while people wander up and down desperate for a seat. As an aside, I always choose to sit by a bag person now even if there’s a non-bag seat free by someone else. Selfish people.

Maybe she doesn't feel well. Maybe she's just finished a long shift on her feet. To say she doesn't have manners is unfair.

OP doesn't have any more entitlement to this seat than that woman. She's already by her child. It's not like on a plane.

This woman was already there. Why did OP choose her to sit next to and her to be annoyed about not moving? Did she look like a likely victim someone OP assumed more likely to move?

Maybe you should'n have annoyed her in first place then.
