I don’t watch films that often, but watched on Amazon Prime largely due to Carey Mulligan/Rosamund Pike…

It’s visually good, but felt rushed/unbelievable towards the end…

It’s just not convincing - particularly ‘Oliver’…

I quite enjoyed it but it's bonkers.

Mosaic123 · 09/01/2024 20:48

I thought it reminded me if numerous other dramas and films and although it had a few good moments, I wished I hadn't bothered watching it.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 09/01/2024 20:48

Oliver was too bloody old looking! It pulled me out of the story!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 09/01/2024 20:48

I haven't seen it but DS (30) went yesterday and said it was awful. Mind you, he and I have very different tastes so I might like it!

ALPHAFEMALESINCEBIRTH · 09/01/2024 20:51

agree
its getting so much hype but i thought it boring, ok a few weird/ickky scenes thats getting the hype

i did get the wrong end of the stick though i though they were going to be gay so the whole film i was waiting for one to make a move

MathiasBroucek · 09/01/2024 20:56

We turned it off due to the icky scenes

GingerLiberalFeminist · 09/01/2024 20:56

Yeah we thought it was rubbish. He wasn't even menacing at the end. The grave shagging was a shocker though.

hopscotcher · 09/01/2024 20:56

I found it quite an interesting watch, but must admit I was pleased when it finished.

DecafOatMilkCappucino · 09/01/2024 20:57

I loved it. It seems to be quite a marmite film.

SocksAndTheCity · 09/01/2024 20:58

Yeah, I thought it was OK but unremarkable and I much preferred Promising Young Woman.

closingdownsale · 09/01/2024 20:59

The twist ending was awful! Definitely made it clear it was pitched at teenage girls. I was really invested in it until the last 10 minutes then it just got too much like the kind of thing me and my 14 year old friendship group would've squeeled over back in the day

PoinsettiaLives · 09/01/2024 20:59

I didn’t like it much, just a rip off of TMR and Barry K was really badly miscast. I liked Rosamund Pike, Richard E Grant and Jacob Elordi.

Chipperchopper · 09/01/2024 21:00

Agree, it was visually interesting, but all very unbelievable and mostly pointless. Surprised by how many people liked it, there were 3 of the most disturbing scenes I've ever seen in cinema. It felt gratuitous and I even felt like Barry Keoghan (who is a good actor) was horribly exploited - I felt his discomfort at times. It wasn't clever, dialogue was weak. Funny that so many people are on the side of the rich family by the end, with that horrible middle class upstart stealing their whole estate from under their noses, even though they are thoroughly obnoxious. It's worth remembering that Emerald Fennell comes from an extremely wealthy and privileged background - it feels like a paranoid fever dream.

SeanMean · 09/01/2024 21:00

I really enjoyed it.

Seems a marmite movie alright!

ClaireEclair · 09/01/2024 21:02

It was okay. I loved Rosamund, she was great. The ending didn’t make sense. Don’t want to spoil it but in real life the police would have been all over it.

thisplaceiscraziness · 09/01/2024 21:03

I actually loved Saltburn, great casting, costume, staging etc .. thought it was refreshingly different and did not predict the outcome - I watch a lot of shows and it takes a lot for me
to like things these days.

BeadedBubbles · 09/01/2024 21:03

Also absolutely loved it!

GinAndJuice99 · 09/01/2024 21:05

It was pretty daft. There was a good film in there somewhere struggling to get out. Most of the cast were good, particularly Rosamund Pike. But Barry Keoghan - I’ve admired him in other films but he was horribly miscast in this. His limitations as an actor were very apparent.

I felt the same about Barry k being exploited. I wonder if he was the first choice or if other actors turned the role down.

To be fair he did murder them 😭

MontagueLeo · 09/01/2024 21:15

It was a diverting couple of hours but I can’t help feeling that The Talented Mr Ripley, Brideshead, and The Line of Beauty did it better

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 09/01/2024 21:17

Absolutely loved the costumes the parties etc.

However the bizzare trying to shock us crap... Was peculiar. This man must have been a robot to suck that girls blood..but not be attracted to her all because he fancied her brother. The baths scene..

The deaths and that woman coming back to him!!

Bizzare.. Such a shame... It could have been so good had it not been so extreme.

A bit like the very very poor cousin of the servant film.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 09/01/2024 21:19

@Chipperchopper does that explain this! It's her hair shirt whipping of self privilege.

GreatGateauxsby · 09/01/2024 21:21

Visually amazing - massive props to the team.
rosamund pike is chefs kiss and I don’t even really like her as an actress

but my suspension of disbelief was unsuspended repeatedly

and all the shock stuff was just naff and a bit 🤢

Caroparo52 · 09/01/2024 21:21

Loved it. Crazy. Bonkers. Entertaining.
Some of the funniest lines I've heard in a long time from Rosamund Pike on Pamela's death
'She'll do anything for attention'
