Sorry wrong category......just wanted to say please be careful when rehoming your pets....

OP posts:
Testina · 08/01/2024 15:56

No, it’s a consequence of someone dumping their responsibility and pocketing from a £400 Facebook ad, selling to someone who feeds a dog cannabis edibles. So a responsible type then.

I mean OK, you’ve got a chain of events that includes the ban… but nah, this dog is dead because of irresponsible owners.

MK19590 · 08/01/2024 15:57

Something similar happened in London where a mutilated corpse of an XL bully was found down a back road.

These people are disgusting. If the dog is dangerous and posing a threat to human life then it needs to be PTS humanely

Soubriquet · 08/01/2024 15:58

It’s risk for any breed of dog that is sold on fb/gumtree etc etc

You cant home check this places properly. Not like a rescue does so the chances of rehoming to a dodgy owner is high

Okitten · 08/01/2024 16:01

No, it’s not a response of the ban, it’s a response of the majority of people who own these dogs who didn’t give a shit about anything other than how ‘hard they looked’ with that bred and the occasional earthy mama who thought she was a spirit warrior who could talk to the animals and connect with them like they were one 🙄 … all ego on the owners part…shit dog owners attracted to that beeed for their own shitty reasons … nothing to do with the ban

AnotherAllotment · 08/01/2024 16:01

I don't think this is the consequence of the ban. I think it is the consequence of shitty standard of pet care among (some) owners.

Anyone 'rehoming' a dog in this manner is leaving the dog vulnerable to all sorts of trouble.

If I had a well loved, wonderfully temperamented XL bully and - for some reason - could not follow the new guidelines in England, there is no way on earth the right choice would be to send the dog north of the border into stranger's hands in exchange for £400 from a facebook post. It would be to peacefully euthanise the dog. It would break my heart but it still would be the better option for this dog than being sent out into the great unknown as part of a private sale and at a time when there are 000s of other similar dogs looking for new homes.

I have some concerns and problems with the ban but don't see this as a ban issue.

Sadly, this dog had a shitty ex owner and an even shittier new one.

Testina · 08/01/2024 16:02

The dog didn’t need to be “rehomed” - let’s call it sold in the first place. But this owner would rather have the cash than comply with the rules, so they clearly didn’t care about it anyway, poor thing.

I’m sure it was targeted because there are nasty people everywhere - yes they killed that dog because it was sold to someone near them and we’ve given people carte blanche to hate the breed. But if that dog was still in England, those bastards would have been killing something else.

StopTheBusINeedAWeeWeeAWeeWeeBagOChips · 08/01/2024 16:03

One of the rehomed ones went for my dog this morning (I'm in Scotland).

The owner, who was maybe 18/19, had it on a lead it started yanking at the lead snarlinabandoned snapping at my pup, the owner could barely control it, this is despite me moving away before it even approached because my puppy gets over excited around other dogs. He shouted that it's OK, the dog is a rescue and managed to pull it away. I waited 5 minutes, continued on the walk, them spotted the owner taking the dog off lead, so I changed direction and went elsewhere.

I know a couple of people with XL bullys, and they are lovely and well trained. The problem is a bunch of strangers have given another bunch of strangers a bunch of strange dogs. Nobody has checked anything from either side. Its a disaster waiting to happen.

TheProblemBlob · 08/01/2024 16:08

I can’t work out from that article what’s supposed to have happened. Did the vigilantes kill the dog? Or the edibles?

thetworonnies · 08/01/2024 16:09

The dog may have been rehomed due to the original owner being in social housing and not allowed to keep the dog which would, imo, be a consequence of the ban.

I know there won't be much sympathy on here - I've been told plenty of times that my dog should be killed - but my heart goes out to that poor thing. Humans are revolting.

oOiluvfriendsOo · 08/01/2024 16:09

I can see everyone's point.....I guess I was coming from the thought that had the ban not been enforced then the dog would have stayed safe with previous owners. Naive thinking probably.
But yes, to just let your dog go to a random person off the internet doesn't show much love or care for that dog.

Ah good.
An example of the humanity that we're supposed to prefer over dogs has arrived.

This. The dog wasn’t rehomed, it was sold, the owner didn’t care who too, they just wanted it gone before the ban came into place because they didn’t want the hassle. They are as much to blame as the person who bought the poor dog.

EvilElsa · 08/01/2024 16:11

It was inevitable this was going to happen sadly.
Facebook is full of ads for the dogs. There's no vetting of new homes, no suitability checks. Dog fighting is still a thing and they are the perfect dogs to do it. Fucking awful.

oOiluvfriendsOo · 08/01/2024 16:11

The guy is claiming he gave the dog edibles which killed it. The dog was found with injuries.
The vigilantes went after him for killing the dog.

Exactly this.

I don’t think this is the last or worse that we will hear. Stupid owners cashed them in like they were toys and (most of) the poor dogs have ended up in a new kind of hell.

I’m not a massive fan of the breed but they are living breathing animals.

SomeCatFromJapan · 08/01/2024 16:11

Someone said on another thread it was the new "owner". He claimed it died from edibles but it had stab wounds.

Ap24 · 08/01/2024 16:12

There's been a few reports of these dogs being murdered, tortured, tied up to trees and abandoned. It isn't a result of "the ban"! All the owners knew far in advance that they needed to apply for an exemption, get their dogs neutered, insured and muzzle trained. They didn't bother because they're not fit to look after a dog. This was always the problem, the type of idiots who like these dogs aren't responsible people and are violent, antisocial idiots.

Not a fan of the breed myself but still find it sad that someone would do this to any animal. Getting the dog put to sleep humanely has to be better than that.

I totally agree.

Whatever you think of the breed, torturing them isn't the answer.

I don't think you should be celebrating any animal being poisoned and stabbed to death.

The dog didn’t ask to be born and as far as you know it has never hurt anyone. I don’t think this breed should exist but they deserve to die humanely not through multiple stabbings in the head ffs.
