This is what happens when feckless English/Welsh XL bully owners don't want to comply with the law and without a second thought, flog their "much-loved pet" to a Scottish ned, who then thinks it's a good idea to feed it cannabis.

The whole thing is a shitshow, and shows the type of people who trade in these animals and think it's a good idea to take one on as a pet.

StaunchMomma · 08/01/2024 17:00

Shit owners did this - both the dog's old ones and new ones.

Agree 100%.
No one that truly loved and cared for their dog would sell it for any money, as they are priceless.

The old owner sounds a greedy git pocketing £400.

The new owner is obviously a sadist to buy a dog to torture it.

YourInGoodCompany · 08/01/2024 16:56

The government should be paying for cost of dogs to be PTS. Owners have no excuse then.

Why should taxpayers fund it?

GrandTheftWalrus · 08/01/2024 17:09

Just seen the posts on twitter. The dog was only 1yr old. It's not her fault she's an xl bully.

I agree with humanley putting them to sleep. Not what this piece of shit done to the dog.

He might have saved someone’s life.

What a fucking stupid arse comment.

Yea I might go and stamp on the next cat I see, might prevent someone getting sepsis from a scratch.

HoneyNuts · 08/01/2024 17:11

I am a typical MN ‘dog-hater’. Which means I can’t stand the practice of letting dogs come to cafes and shops and be allowed to wander up to people, jump up at them and lick their shoes and nuzzle their bags etc.

But I would confront anyone treating a dog cruelly and feel sick when I hear of people kicking and torturing animals. This poor dog was treated badly by all those who were meant to care for her.

It is appalling. None of this nightmare is the fault of the poor dogs caught up in it all.

I was more upset by the countless videos of people being mauled by these things tbh.

I’m in alder hey a&e right now and a 3yo boy has just came in after being mauled by his grandads xl

Because public safety is worth it?

Bromeliads · 08/01/2024 17:14

I don’t think this had anything to do with the ban, did it? As far as I can see, it was the guy who ended up beating this dog to death who tried to sell her months ago for £400, but presumably he failed.
I think this is a story about some arsehole beating his own pet to death, gloating about it, and then getting beaten by vigilantes.

LaurieStrode · 08/01/2024 17:15

Can there be an animal cruelty area of Mumsnet that those of us who don't wish to read about it can avoid?

This has basically ruined my day.

notanothernana · 08/01/2024 16:49

I don't understand it, if you love your xl bully and are a responsible owner you would just comply? Surely. I don't understand why the massive offloading of these dogs. I have a dog and I would pay £92 to register it, muzzle train it and take it out on a lead. I am starting to suspect that most xl bully owners didn't give a shit.

Got it in one.
They want to be able to breed them and sell the puppies on, so many XL Bullies that the dog wardens pick up aren't even chipped, deliberately un-chipped so it can't be traced back to anyone when it's straying.

mummymeister · 08/01/2024 17:16

They arent "banned" why does everyone keep saying they are. just for shock value?

Owners are required to :

  • Your dog must be on a lead and muzzled at all times in public areas.
  • It is compulsory to neuter dogs and have it certified by a vet
  • Kept in a secure place, so they cannot escape
  • You must have 3rd party liability insurance
  • Your dog must be microchipped
  • You the owner must be over 16 years of age
  • You must be able to produce an exemption certificate, if asked by a dog warden or the police at the time, or within 5 days.

In other words TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. There is no ban.

Arightoldcarryabag · 08/01/2024 17:18

Testina · 08/01/2024 15:56

No, it’s a consequence of someone dumping their responsibility and pocketing from a £400 Facebook ad, selling to someone who feeds a dog cannabis edibles. So a responsible type then.

I mean OK, you’ve got a chain of events that includes the ban… but nah, this dog is dead because of irresponsible owners.

The dog was only alive because of shit breeders and owners and now it's dead because of shit owners. The circle of a shitshow is complete for this dog but continues for others, what a set of inhumane creatures we are.

Poor kid..... I hope it's not serious..but likely to be.

HaggisPakora · 08/01/2024 17:21

In other words TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. There is no ban.

But if you don't want to take responsibility, and are by default the stereotypical irresponsible XL bully owner, there are a large number of equally irresponsible Scottish numpties who will happily take this animal off your hands, no questions asked. There are lots of facebook "rescue" charities who will facility the transfer.

What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

You opened the thread though. It was hardly going to be a heartwarming discussion was it. Take some personal responsibility for what you're looking at.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 08/01/2024 17:25

oOiluvfriendsOo · 08/01/2024 16:09

I can see everyone's point.....I guess I was coming from the thought that had the ban not been enforced then the dog would have stayed safe with previous owners. Naive thinking probably.
But yes, to just let your dog go to a random person off the internet doesn't show much love or care for that dog.

If my dogs were suddenly subject to controls (wouldn’t happen as they couldn’t be more soft) I’d do my absolute best to meet the new criteria because I adore my dogs and I would struggle to be without them. If I absolutely couldn’t, I’d try and find homes for them with kind family or friends. There is not a single circumstance that would entice me to sell my beloved dogs to a random stranger on the internet. I would have them put down first.

This poor dog wasn’t safe with either of its owners and I think this is the case with a lot of these breeds. The people that own these dogs often aren’t fit to own a bloody hamster. I agree that most of these dogs would likely be fine with responsible owners who understand their needs and actually care for them, but unfortunately most responsible owners wouldn’t choose this type of dog. It’s a real shame for the pets and more should be done to stop the trading of dogs to idiots who can barely take care of themselves.

Fingeronthebutton · 08/01/2024 17:26

One less to potentially kill an innocent child.

LoudSnoringDog · 08/01/2024 17:27

An Xl Bully dog was dumped locally in the early hours of the morning a few days ago. A woman was up and saw the dog just being dumped out the car.
poor thing looked terrified on the pics on fb. Her owners were clearly too stupid to realise that by chipping her, it would be found out quite easily where she was from. They tried to claim she had been stolen

Ageee with posters regarding why bloody torture the dogs?? Cruel

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 08/01/2024 17:29

Poor dog, what miserable cruel lives these animals are bred into.

Why in God’s name click on a thread about a dead bully being dumped if you’re that sensitive to animal cruelty? It was hardly going to be a heartwarming story and all the posters going ‘awww!’

TheProblemBlob · 08/01/2024 17:40

I helped a staffy cross that had been dumped a few years ago, but I’d be too scared to approach one of these if I found it wandering.

Not sure how the title can be more subtle. Dead dog, avoid if triggering.
