Wanting to change DD2s name as no one else seems to likely

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:03

I hate posting this, DD2 is 8 weeks old, she’s perfect but I’m super sleep deprived so probably extra sensitive.
DD1 is 2 when she was born everyone complimented her name, and even know still do.
DD2 gets a mix of aw lovely to just down right to “oh like the fabric softener (more so over text than in person)” it’s making me really sad. Today we went out for lunch and the waitress asked their names told her and she went gosh that’s a gorgeous name in reference to DD1s but nothing about DD2s.
Im thinking we should just change it? I live her name and always imagined having a little girl with the name but wouldn’t want her to feel like her name is ugly or hate her name (I don’t like my name and get some annoying comments so wouldn’t want that). DH thinks I’m being silly and we live her name so that’s all that matters.
AIBU wanting to change it?
Her name is Leonora as I know people will be curious.

Leonora is beautiful and very unique, I've never heard of it but it's lovely. If you love it then focus on that, ignore others.

Star81 · 08/01/2024 00:07

I thought the name was going to be Ariel which would have crossed my mind but Leonora is gorgeous I wouldn’t make the Lenor connection at all. Some people are just rude. Ignore

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:05

Her name is Annabel

In my opinion Leonora is a beautiful name and sorry but I think Annabel is a bit bland, so I’m surprised the compliments aren’t the other way around!

Everywherieatsleepanddreamem · 08/01/2024 00:09

Leonora like Leonora Carrington! It’s a fabulous name

Alloveragain3 · 08/01/2024 00:09

God, I love the name Leonora.
My son is Leo and I was actually a bit sad I couldn't use Leona or Leonora for my DD!

It's just the right mix of pretty, uncommon and interesting for me.

Fwiw, my DD is also 8 weeks and I'm having some name regret too. I think it's really common and I'm hoping it goes away as I get more used to the name and it becomes "her" name.

Marblessolveeverything · 08/01/2024 00:09

It's Liam Neeson wife name in Taken. It's a pretty name, the waiter probably specifically as the older child was there, baby would be unaware

TheBeesKnee · 08/01/2024 00:10

Do you pick names because you want compliments, or because you like the name?

If you like the name then don't change it :)

Alloveragain3 · 08/01/2024 00:10

Agree with @Marblessolveeverything I'd say the waitress just wanted to say something nice to DD1 as she could understand her.
Both lovely names.

Enko · 08/01/2024 00:11

Leonora is so pretty imo and in my opinion much better than Annabelle. But people will compliment Annabelle as its safe and not very "out there" Leonora is more unusual so will tale some.getting used to for some people.
The fabric softer people are rude and not even right.

I suspect in 5years or so you will still love Leonora so I would stick with it.

If I met you I would be the "oh ok" to Annabelle and ohhh beautiful to Leonora variety. Not that I think Annabelle is awful its just not what I see as a beautiful name.

Aparecium · 08/01/2024 00:11

Lenora? Leonora? Both names of girls I knew many years ago. Leonora was a lovely singer. And she had curly hair. I half-wanted to be her 😂

I bet your dd2 is just as wonderful and lovely.

Don't worry about how others respond to your dd's name. You choose that name because you found it beautiful, just like her, and that's what matters.

Littlebluebird123 · 08/01/2024 00:11

I've had a mix of reactions to my choices. I personally love one of my DC names as it's unusual but no+one ever complimented it. Lots of people compliment the name of youngest DC. Never have I wanted to change their names. They are who they are, it's no+one else's business. I don't let other people's opinions weigh too heavily on me.
For what it's worth, I love Leonora but don't like Annabel.

Aparecium · 08/01/2024 00:13

Annabel? Perfectly fine name. (I don't see any connection to fabric conditioner.)

LilyLemonade · 08/01/2024 00:13

Leonora is a beautiful and very elegant name. I absolutely don’t think you should change it.
it also goes beautifully well with Annabel; I think they are both quite classy names and very feminine.

Aparecium · 08/01/2024 00:15

Clearly I cannot read after midnight.

GoldenArrow · 08/01/2024 00:17

Both lovely OP, good choices. I wouldn't change her name if you and DH like it. It's a long enough name that she can enjoy a shortened version of it later in life is she wants (Nora?), same with Annabel.

Josette77 · 08/01/2024 00:19

I love them both.

Are you an Edgar Allen Poe fan? 💖

Britneyfan · 08/01/2024 00:20

Leonora is a beautiful name and quite unusual, you should definitely keep it.

Sunday12 · 08/01/2024 00:23

Leonora is a fantastic name. And it’s rare that I say that on name threads. Thats the best name I’ve heard in ages. Annabel is sweet but not as glamorous. You’ve chosen great names though well done!

MollsDolls · 08/01/2024 00:23

Leonora is a beautiful name. Please don't change it.

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:26

Thank you everyone. Normally I wouldn’t care what other people think, I don’t know If im just sleep deprived and sensitive but the stark contrast on compliments was making me wonder if it was an ugly name or if there was something about it I was missing.
My name is quite controversial these days so I didn’t want to burden DD with a name she’d hate.

Redglitter · 08/01/2024 00:26

My first thought was the waitress commented on your eldest daughters name because she was there & it was something to say to her. 'Thats a gorgeous name' is exactly the kind of thing an adult would say to a small child.

It doesn't matter what people think, you & your husband like it. Its a lovely name you'd be mad to change it

Tezza1 · 08/01/2024 00:26

That particular fabric softener is not sold where I live, so my only connotation is Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" which I love:
"....sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore—"
Of course Lenore is dead, which puts a bit of a dampener on it, but none the less, I love the name in all its forms.
