Wanting to change DD2s name as no one else seems to likely

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:03

I hate posting this, DD2 is 8 weeks old, she’s perfect but I’m super sleep deprived so probably extra sensitive.
DD1 is 2 when she was born everyone complimented her name, and even know still do.
DD2 gets a mix of aw lovely to just down right to “oh like the fabric softener (more so over text than in person)” it’s making me really sad. Today we went out for lunch and the waitress asked their names told her and she went gosh that’s a gorgeous name in reference to DD1s but nothing about DD2s.
Im thinking we should just change it? I live her name and always imagined having a little girl with the name but wouldn’t want her to feel like her name is ugly or hate her name (I don’t like my name and get some annoying comments so wouldn’t want that). DH thinks I’m being silly and we live her name so that’s all that matters.
AIBU wanting to change it?
Her name is Leonora as I know people will be curious.

That’s a beautiful name ignore people that can’t hear the name properly, they’re rude.

2024GarlicCloves · 08/01/2024 01:59

Nah, people just shoot their mouths off about names. If it's unfamiliar to them, their brain tries to make a known connection and then it just comes tumbling out!

My name's unusual - not by any means unique - and I've had a lifetime of people cracking weak jokes about it, telling me I've spelt it wrong or "do you mean [other, vaguely similar name]?" I can't imagine they really think I don't know my own name 🤣 or how to spell it! It's just their clunky brain connections.

You've chosen a beautiful, classical name and India's lovely, too.

ConsuelaHammock · 08/01/2024 02:26

It’s a beautiful name.

Guavafish1 · 08/01/2024 02:31

ppl will call her Nora

Spomsored · 08/01/2024 02:37

I was expecting Comfort! Bit slow, need bed.

Leonora is a lovely name. I would pronounce it Li-nora but have also heard Leo-nora which might stop the fabric conditioner comments? Alternatively, unfriend these rude twits.

Threeboysadogandacat · 08/01/2024 03:32

Leonora is a lovely name. I thought you were going to be an Alexa.

Whatthefnow · 08/01/2024 03:40

I don't like either name, it's like you tried to hard.

But what do you care what strangers in the internet think.

If you like them then that's all that matters.

Libmama · 08/01/2024 03:43

Leonora is lovely!!

Noone in real life likes my DDs name. It wasn’t very popular on here either when I asked about it. But I didn’t care, I love it and it suits her!

Ignore the rude people!!

MañanaramasCat · 08/01/2024 03:50

I just assumed you liked opera having chosen Leonora (Fidelio).

I think you've picked good names OP (most of the baby name threads on MN are insane 🤣)

noooooooo · 08/01/2024 04:12

I think you’re right and it’s maybe a wobble cos you’re tired, both names are elegant and feminine. Anyone who says ‘like the fabric conditioner?’ is showing themselves up. I would say don’t let it get to you but I have no room to talk. We had a person, X, make a face and comment about how our brand-new baby daughter could always change her name when she was older. I said ‘aye maybe she’ll go for X instead.’ (X was known for being rude, apparently, but she sure didn’t like it back😬).

Congratulations as well 🥳

Bellavida99 · 08/01/2024 04:13

Leonora is lovely as it’s quite unusual but still a proper classic name not a made up one. It will stand the test of time so stick with it definitely.

Rightsraptor · 08/01/2024 04:20

They are both lovely names, OP, and it is a big responsibility naming a child, so I think you're just feeling that 'have I/we really made the right decision?' thing at the moment. It'll pass.

I'd agree the waitress saying that Annabel is a lovely name was more directed to the child because she's of an age to understand it, whereas an 8 week old isn't (sorry, stating the obvious here).

Rightsraptor · 08/01/2024 04:27

Comfort is a surname, so I do think I'd avoid Leonora if your surname is Comfort, as that might be a bit too laundry-producty.

But then, I'd be changing the Comfort bit instead.

GreatGateauxsby · 08/01/2024 04:27

I guessed Lenora based on the moronic fabric softener comment.

both are perfectly good names.
if I’m fussy, I actually think it’s nicer than Annabelle 🤷🏻‍♀️

keep the names…it’s not like you called your girls Aurora Rose and Shrek…

user1492757084 · 08/01/2024 04:34

Leonora is a gorgeous name, in every respect.

I think people might be less familiar with it for a start.
Annabel and Leonora go well for sisters.

HarrietTheFireStarter · 08/01/2024 04:35

I can't believe people make ride comments a. about the name of the person they're talking to and/or their children, and b. your name and those of your daughters are lovely!!! Please pay no mind to rude people. And if someone texts you, "like the fabric conditioner" I think it's fair to text back "yes but that comment is wearing very thin".

carwashthecat · 08/01/2024 04:37

Aww Leonora is a beautiful name ..

Nanaof1 · 08/01/2024 04:43

I didn't want to click on either choice because I don't want you to feel you are unreasonable. You are a new mama who loves her little ones very much.

I think both names are beautiful and Leonora sounds like a striking and confident name.

girlswillbegirls · 08/01/2024 04:44

Leonora is an elegant and beautiful name. Very well known in Spain. Its the name of the first Spanish princess who will be future queen. (Only spelled Leonor). It's gorgeous OP.

Lizzieregina · 08/01/2024 04:48

My best friend growing up (50 years ago!) was Leonora! I didn’t think I’ve met a Leonora in person since then.

It’s a very lovely name, so I wouldn’t change it if I were you.

WeveGotThis · 08/01/2024 04:51

It's a beautiful name. You need some sleep!

If you feel the same way in 6 months after some proper sleep, know that you can change a name in the first year without a deed poll - contact your district's register office for forms. The option is there.

Honestly though I think you're very tired and she's very new and it's a name you felt was a bit risky so you're worrying about people's responses as you've only just had her. Trust yourself, you're doing great.

Goldbar · 08/01/2024 05:29

Leonora is a lovely name and Leo and Nora are both great potential nicknames.

I actually prefer it to Annabel, although I think that's perfectly nice too.

I'd leave it - I think it's one of those names that's growing in use so in a few years, no one will bat an eyelid.

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/01/2024 05:34

I love it, beautiful name.

Lampzade · 08/01/2024 05:44

It is a lovely name Op

PyongyangKipperbang · 08/01/2024 05:47

I was thinking of The Raven when I read the OP and then felt vindicated when I saw the name!

Stick with it and when you get a full nights sleep, you'll be ok with it. Stupid people can be safely discounted.
