Wanting to change DD2s name as no one else seems to likely

I hate posting this, DD2 is 8 weeks old, she’s perfect but I’m super sleep deprived so probably extra sensitive.
DD1 is 2 when she was born everyone complimented her name, and even know still do.
DD2 gets a mix of aw lovely to just down right to “oh like the fabric softener (more so over text than in person)” it’s making me really sad. Today we went out for lunch and the waitress asked their names told her and she went gosh that’s a gorgeous name in reference to DD1s but nothing about DD2s.
Im thinking we should just change it? I live her name and always imagined having a little girl with the name but wouldn’t want her to feel like her name is ugly or hate her name (I don’t like my name and get some annoying comments so wouldn’t want that). DH thinks I’m being silly and we live her name so that’s all that matters.
AIBU wanting to change it?
Her name is Leonora as I know people will be curious.

I went to school with a Leonora, and I remember thinking that her name was so cool as a child. She went by Leo, mainly. I think it’s a beautiful choice.

FiveShelties · 08/01/2024 05:48

No don't change it is lovely.

MissedItByThisMuch · 08/01/2024 05:48

Leonora is a gorgeous name, I absolutely love it. Under no circumstances change it! When rude weirdos say “like the fabric softener?” just look confused and say “Um….no?” Annabel is nice too and they are lovely together. Excellent naming!

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 08/01/2024 05:52

Leonora is fantastic! I love it.

chocaholic33 · 08/01/2024 05:52

Leonora is so beautiful!

shoesday · 08/01/2024 05:53

Leonora is a great name. It will do her well in life as she gets older. She can shorten it to "Lee" if she wants and then the sexist pigs in the workplace will assume she's male and take her seriously. Or she can be Leonora full name which is a lovely gorgeous name and full of lion strength.

If I'm honest, which I assume you are wanting, I am AMAZED people are complimenting you for Annabell

Not that there's anything wrong with Annabelle, just there's lots of them (sorry I can't spell it!)

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 08/01/2024 05:59

I think Leonora is much nicer and far more unusual than Annabel. If you love it keep it.

Gnomegnomegnome · 08/01/2024 06:06

All of you have gorgeous names.

I know a Lenora who goes by Nora. Both lovely names.

blackpanth · 08/01/2024 06:10

Definitely don't change her name

Yummybumble · 08/01/2024 06:12

We have a slightly different name for our DS1 and everyone often says they love it. DD2 has an unusua name for a girl in the UK and everyone takes a step back. We love it and don’t worry. As babe gets older she will just be a Leonora. Don’t worry

Onelife2024 · 08/01/2024 06:25

It’s a nice name and has some lovely shortenings, I really like Leah as a nn, so there’s no need to change it imo

Olindia · 08/01/2024 06:25

I knew what my lb was going to be called quite early on and some pretty blunt people at work were quite rude when I told them but we loved it and were adamant. When he was a similar age to your DD2 I think I also had a little wobble and used to think I can’t believe we called him that. But now he’s 4 and it’s just him and he suits it.

For those wondering it is a proper name but more common in America, we call him the short version which is an amphibian.

ttcat37 · 08/01/2024 06:25

Leonora is a beautiful name. Making comparisons to Lenor is not only exceptionally rude but a reflection on the people making that comment rather than on the name itself. Have strength in your convictions! She can be a Leo or a Nora too as she grows up, both lovely as well but Leonora is a lovely name.

BluJanuary · 08/01/2024 06:26

I changed my son's name when he was a baby, so I just wanted to say - it's OK to change it! But if it helps.. I really like the name you've chosen! If you like it, keep it. It is different yet really pretty!

Olindia · 08/01/2024 06:27

Also Leonora was in my if he had been a girl list. I think it’s beautiful.

VerbenaGirl · 08/01/2024 06:31

I think it’s a lovely name and definitely wouldn’t change it. As she gets older she has the option of shortening to Leo or Nora for daily use - which are both really cool. Sleep deprivation is horrible and that plus your hormones will really skew how you react to things.

ArchetypalBusyMum · 08/01/2024 06:35

My son (secondary school) has a big crush on a girl called Nora. I'm now wondering if she is a Leonora and imagining she is rather cool and gorgeous. My DD has a name which is a little unusual, I love it though and it is so 'her' now.

Chilicabbage · 08/01/2024 06:36

It's lovely.
I spent years as a young child bugging my mum to change my name into Eleonora (old style name but love it). I have bog standard name where I am from.
Maybe you could just add the E if you really think change is needed

Lovelynames123 · 08/01/2024 06:58

Currently reading a book with a character called Leonora, beautiful name, much nicer than Annabel IMO. And anyone who connects it to Lenor is an idiot, might as well connect Annabel to Babybel!

Blueey · 08/01/2024 06:59

I think Leonora is beautiful.

ColleenDonaghy · 08/01/2024 07:01

Leonora is lovely! I usually dislike "frilly" names but Leonora is really really nice. Fwiw Annabel is a fine name but I prefer Leonora!

My daughters are 5 and 3, still get loads of compliments on DD2's name but with eldest they tailed off once she was born as is the norm. Doesn't matter to me, her name was the right one for her, and all other names went out of the running very early on.

useitorlose · 08/01/2024 07:02

I like both but prefer Leonora. Don't change it if you love it.

FlamingoQueen · 08/01/2024 07:02

I like dd2’s name, not a massive fan of the name Annabel though (sorry!).
I know someone who has a name like a chocolate biscuit, but pronounced in a hyacinth bucket manner!

Starryskies1 · 08/01/2024 07:03

I think when you give a child a name that is a bit different it takes people time to get used to it. If you love it I would leave it. Opinions don’t matter really.
