Wanting to change DD2s name as no one else seems to likely

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:03

I hate posting this, DD2 is 8 weeks old, she’s perfect but I’m super sleep deprived so probably extra sensitive.
DD1 is 2 when she was born everyone complimented her name, and even know still do.
DD2 gets a mix of aw lovely to just down right to “oh like the fabric softener (more so over text than in person)” it’s making me really sad. Today we went out for lunch and the waitress asked their names told her and she went gosh that’s a gorgeous name in reference to DD1s but nothing about DD2s.
Im thinking we should just change it? I live her name and always imagined having a little girl with the name but wouldn’t want her to feel like her name is ugly or hate her name (I don’t like my name and get some annoying comments so wouldn’t want that). DH thinks I’m being silly and we live her name so that’s all that matters.
AIBU wanting to change it?
Her name is Leonora as I know people will be curious.

Like many other PPs, I think your dd2 got the better deal name-wise. I've noticed that making fun of names/stretching to tenuous similarities to comment on is a bit of a British phenomenon (I am British but live elsewhere). Hopefully it will die out as naming becomes more diverse. Keep her name! It's lovely (and very international).

Tumbleweed101 · 08/01/2024 07:04

It's a nice name. Babies grow into their names as people get used to it and the babies personality grows. We've had babies with unusual names start with us at the nursery which seem almost too 'big'or grown up for the child but by time they leave at 4yo you couldn't imagine a different name for them.

2023usernameNew · 08/01/2024 07:10

I like Leonora more than Annabelle too.

I think it must be how you pronounce it, because by reading it, my mind wouldn’t have jumped to the fabric softener.

but I’m not English, so in my mind it reads differently.

kezzykicks · 08/01/2024 07:10

It's a gorgeous name and a lot more interesting and perhaps marmite than Annabelle which is very pretty but common and well known.x my children's names are like that - my ds has a far more j

🤯🤷‍♀️

JusticeTrade · 08/01/2024 07:15

I knew a lovely girl called Leonora, her sister was called Vivienne.

I would stick with it, I think it's beautiful.

SamPoodle123 · 08/01/2024 07:17

Both are equally lovely names. In fact, both were on my list of names for girls. Do not change it. I think you are being sensitive. I know a leonora....anyone making silly comments is stupid. Ignore them.

NalafromtheLionKing · 08/01/2024 07:18

I also think it’s lovely. Glad you added the actual names as it’s too difficult to say otherwise (and I thought you were going to say you had chosen something dreadful!)

Frangipanyoul8r · 08/01/2024 07:22

Both are lovely.

IHatesMeecesToPieces · 08/01/2024 07:22

Guavafish1 · 08/01/2024 02:31

ppl will call her Nora

Nothing wrong with that - it's a lovely name

JusticeTrade · 08/01/2024 07:25

It's so common for mothers to second guess themselves and have severe anxiety over a babies name. I think at 8 weeks you are still.in recovery and your hormones are still getting back to normal, you are also.probably seriously sleep deprived. So I would try not to listen to your anxiety and see how you feel about the name is a few more months. You chose it specially for her because you love it, don't doubt yourself just because of the reaction of a couple of people.

Freeasabird76 · 08/01/2024 07:27

I thought you were going to say Comfort,I remember a paramedic on casualty named this ,I like it by the way
Leonora is beautiful,so unique but not strange, ignore the haters,it is a beautiful choice.
My friend didn't like my choice for dd2,still called her that though.

TempleOfBloom · 08/01/2024 07:28

Leonora is a beautiful name. It really is.

Congratulations OP !

RoseMarigoldViolet · 08/01/2024 07:31

Beautiful name.
Ignore people. You are tired. Just enjoy your baby!

ThunderSnacks · 08/01/2024 07:34

I LOVE Leonora! I would have had it for my second DD, except that it's so similar to DD1. Love all the nns too.

Annabelle is a really lovely name too but has a bit more 'newborn sweetness' to it, for want of a better term. People also always tend to compliment a first baby a bit more.

HoppingPavlova · 08/01/2024 07:39

Lovely name. I think it beats Annabelle hands down.

Wemetatascoutcamp · 08/01/2024 07:39

I like Leonora better than Annabel tbh OP. As PP says she can always use Nora if she isn’t keen later- just like Annabel could use Anna or Belle even?
When DS2 was born I had reservations about his name but now I couldn’t imagine him being called anything else.

honeylulu · 08/01/2024 07:39

Leonora is beautiful. Really classical and feminine but slightly unusual. One of our receptionists had that name and she was beautiful, elegant and a lovely person so absolutely no negative connotations for me! Please don't change it.

I love Annabel too (my daughter has a similar name). AND I love India. So you're all beautifully named.

Maraa · 08/01/2024 07:43

I love Leonora! If I have another baby (not happening) that is top contender, with the nickname Nora. To honour my grandad Leonard. To be honest, I’m gutted I have only just discovered this name otherwise I’d have loved my daughter to have it

Iamnotalemming · 08/01/2024 07:44

I like all three of your names!

Newbie1011 · 08/01/2024 07:44

Both your daughters names are absolutely lovely. Ignore any comments! People give their kids much more out-there names these days to the point where I really doubt ‘leonora’ will even stand out once she is at at school.
I had massive worries about my second daughters name when she was born even though it’s lovely and I’d always liked it, I think it was a bit of post birth exhaustion/ hormones/ worrying about everything. Hope you feel better soon OP and congrats.

quisensoucie · 08/01/2024 07:44

@TeddyBares It is a beautiful name, derived from Eleanor. It is a graceful and pretty name.
I think it is sad and rather alarming that you can consider chnging this because you perceive others do not like it. Don't be so easily swayed. Stand up for yourself and your daughter's beautiful moniker

MySlipperAddiction · 08/01/2024 07:48

It is a beautiful name. Keep it.

RaininSummer · 08/01/2024 07:48

It's a lovely name. They are just being twats if the say it's like Lenor

DuchessPotato · 08/01/2024 07:48

I like it, it’s unusual and pretty.
