Wanting to change DD2s name as no one else seems to likely

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:03

I hate posting this, DD2 is 8 weeks old, she’s perfect but I’m super sleep deprived so probably extra sensitive.
DD1 is 2 when she was born everyone complimented her name, and even know still do.
DD2 gets a mix of aw lovely to just down right to “oh like the fabric softener (more so over text than in person)” it’s making me really sad. Today we went out for lunch and the waitress asked their names told her and she went gosh that’s a gorgeous name in reference to DD1s but nothing about DD2s.
Im thinking we should just change it? I live her name and always imagined having a little girl with the name but wouldn’t want her to feel like her name is ugly or hate her name (I don’t like my name and get some annoying comments so wouldn’t want that). DH thinks I’m being silly and we live her name so that’s all that matters.
AIBU wanting to change it?
Her name is Leonora as I know people will be curious.

@TeddyBares don't even think of changing it, her name is beautiful

BritAirwaysgirl · 09/01/2024 20:23

I used to work with a Leonora and she was always known as Leo. Unusual but lovely.

PattyDuckface · 09/01/2024 20:32

Leonora is fab.

Get a good nights sleep.

sunflowersd · 09/01/2024 20:34

When she’s a bit older you can read the new Leonora Bolt stories to her- a series about a brilliant girl engineer with a sidekick otter. My kid loves them! https://www.penguin.co.uk/series/ISI/leonora-bolt-secret-inventor

BlueSapphireEyes · 09/01/2024 20:45

It’s a gorgeous name don’t change it especially not for ignorant morons.
keep it it’s beautiful 🤩

ArcticBells · 09/01/2024 21:01

It's a lovely name. I thought you were going to say you'd named your baby "Comfort "! Grin

ireallycantthinkofaname · 09/01/2024 21:03

It's a beautiful name IMO

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 09/01/2024 21:16

It's a lovely name. My name is unusual too and I like having it.

Foreverprocrastinating28 · 09/01/2024 21:19

I’m a teacher in a girls school and I’ve taught a Leonora before. I thought (and still think) that it’s a lovely name. Also, I didn’t make the fabric softener connection. I’d keep it as it is.

Meowandthen · 09/01/2024 21:20

I had a friend called Leonora in the 70s and am genuinely surprised people haven’t hear of it. I wouldn’t have associated it with fabric conditioner either.

I think it’s a nice name. It’s definitely a real one, not some made up yooneek one.

Morgysmum · 09/01/2024 21:20

What about, changing it a little to lena. If you aren't that happy with the name.

Missingpop · 09/01/2024 21:26

You’ve picked a beautiful name for your daughter don’t change it just because of other people’s small mindedness; if she decides she’s not so keen on it she could shorten it there are other options Lea; Leo; Ann; Anna; Lora; Nora. X

T1Dmama · 09/01/2024 21:45

JasmineIndigo · 08/01/2024 00:07

In my opinion Leonora is a beautiful name and sorry but I think Annabel is a bit bland, so I’m surprised the compliments aren’t the other way around!

This.
I too think Leonora is beautiful.
Annabel reminds me of the doll, but is still a nice name, likely to be shortened to Belle later.
stick with Leonora, it’s very pretty x (if you’re worried just make sure she has a middle name which can be used if she wishes to do so.
I wouldn’t make the connection to Lenor at all… people who do are frankly a little rude and stupid!

Justontherightsideofnormal · 09/01/2024 21:45

I personally like that name and I always tend to love traditional names.

TruJay · 09/01/2024 21:56

I love Leonora, do not change a name you love. Two out of my three children’s names have been scoffed at many times. I don’t really understand it, if I don’t like a name I say ‘oh lovely’ would never think to share my unwanted opinion.

I also don’t understand why the people who comment negatively on others name choices just assume their children have beautiful names 😅 They love their children’s names like I love mine, it doesn’t make theirs the right choices. That always baffles me. Some of my closest friends have chosen names that I really dislike and would never use for my children but I love the little people they’re connected to and it just becomes them doesn’t it? Whether I would use that name or not is completely irrelevant.

Sorrynotsorry22 · 09/01/2024 22:01

I know a Leora, a. Beautiful name. Leonora is lovely as well.
She may end up called Lee or Nora as she grows but will always have her full name which conjures a 1930s siren in a long silk bias dress ( sorry names do that to me !)

saturnspinkhoop · 09/01/2024 22:09

OP, I gave my eldest a very unusual name. Reactions to it were mixed when she was a baby. I went through a phase of wondering if I’d made the right decision. Sleep deprivation made it all feel worse. Fast forward 7 years and I now only ever get compliments about her name, but more than that, I am very happy with my decision and wouldn’t care even if reactions weren’t all positive. My DD loves her name too. I guess what I’m trying to say is, if you like her name, stick with it. i think it’s a beautiful name.

OldPerson · 09/01/2024 22:24

Lovely name. I thought you must have chosen something weird and hippy. But you've chosen a very elegant name. Please also note, that some of us, when we meet a mum with a toddler and new baby, deliberately make a fuss of the 2 year old. Because we want the 2 year old to feel "special" and not "replaced" or "overlooked" now there's a gorgeous new baby on the scene.

Lolnic · 09/01/2024 22:39

If you used the name there is a reason you did. It is classy and refined. Give it time and it will grow.....
I'm Leonora but have always been known as Leah.

Vistada · 09/01/2024 22:44

Leonora is a beautiful name, I've loved it ever since I read The Good Soldier at uni

Even though the character isn't very nice at all but please don't let that put you off at all

Ginburee · 10/01/2024 00:58

You are overtired and naturally s3nsitive.
You have chosen lovely names for your girls.

Nanof8 · 10/01/2024 03:39

You love the name. I wouldn't change it.
I think it's a lovely name. I have never heard of that fabric softener so wouldn't make the connection.

OtsyBotsy90 · 10/01/2024 05:54

Both names are really lovely! Please don’t change it! People can be so rude. I have 2 with fairly uncommon names, I either get “oh what a lovely name” or “oh right” as long as you love her name.
its definitely not ugly. Xx

Pinkpunk82 · 10/01/2024 08:06

I was wondering if you were an Edgar Allan Poe fan too - Annabelle and Lenore!

ILoveEYFS · 10/01/2024 08:20

I love the name Leonora. When you said fabric softener I thought you named her Comfort 🤦‍♀️
