How sad he wasn't very old.

So very sad.

NewyearNewyear2024 · 05/01/2024 11:50

Oh that’s really sad. He has been so ill for so long. It’s a tragic story all round.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 05/01/2024 11:50

So sad that he has been so poorly for nearly 3 years.

NewyearNewyear2024 · 05/01/2024 11:51

Poor Kate and their young children.

Sauvblanctime · 05/01/2024 11:51

Oh no, how sad, poor man 😞

happyinherts · 05/01/2024 11:51

Kate has been amazing throughout his illness. I hope she's able to grieve properly without media intrusion.

Ferraria · 05/01/2024 11:53

I felt very emotional hearing this. Kate and her children have been through so much. May he RIP.

So sad that he has been so poorly for nearly 3 years.

Nearly 4 years. He got Covid in March 2020.

MILTOBE · 05/01/2024 11:54

How devastating for her and their family.

CharlotteRumpling · 05/01/2024 11:54

How very tragic after all she has done.

CurrentHun · 05/01/2024 11:54

Oh no. That’s an awful end to his life. Really sorry to hear that.

MerryMarigold · 05/01/2024 11:55

Oh no! This is close to home. I have good friend similarly affected by Covid. She can't speak or walk. Her understanding is good and she's so sad at all she can't do. Her husband is being amazing, gave up work to take care of her and 3 children. No family in this county on either side.

NutellaEllaElla · 05/01/2024 11:55

RIP. It was such an extreme illness and he looked to be in so much suffering.

LittleGreenDragons · 05/01/2024 11:55

Not surprised considering he was rushed to hospital last week but how sad. He certainly was a fighter, RIP Derek.

Luddite26 · 05/01/2024 11:56

Very very sad to hear this after nearly 4 years of battling to live.
So much sympathy to his poor family, wife and kids mum and dad and all those close to him.
Really upsetting to hear that after going through so much his fight is over.
Having someone with long COVID in a high profile position has always made me feel it was harder for the powers that be to pretend long COVID wasn't a problem.
RIP Derek Draper.

Peridot1 · 05/01/2024 11:56

So very sad. Covid damaged him so badly.

Heart goes out to Kate and their children.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/01/2024 11:57

Just read this, very sad for all concerned, particularly his kids (I lost my dad as a young teen myself).

teddycoat · 05/01/2024 11:58

So very sad to hear this. He went through such a battle and it was shocking to hear how Covid had affected his internal organs. RIP Derek. My thoughts are with Kate and their children

bsfgham · 05/01/2024 12:00

RIP Derek
Deepest sympathies to Kate and their young children. Very sad and close to my heart. Kate did everything she could, she's an extraordinary person.

Gazelda · 05/01/2024 12:03

How absolutely heartbreaking.

I feel so sad for Kate and their children.

I hope her friends rally round and tuck them all away for as long as they need. It's going to be horrific to face the press.

BeautifulAndBrave · 05/01/2024 12:04

I admire her because at times she looked utterly strained and exhausted.
My husband died and trying to hold down a job, take care of the children and become solely responsible for everything is incredibly difficult. You never get a break.
She did her husband proud.

CurrentHun · 05/01/2024 12:06

very much this. I know of people who have been really long term disabled by Covid and can’t work or leave bed yet there is a view that the pandemic is over. No need for precautions, testing, public information about it. It’s a very worrying official blind spot.

tilsmumsy · 05/01/2024 12:07

I was blown away by the documentaries; Kate's devotion was absolute. You could see the impact the situation had on the whole family but they pulled together and kept going. Tragic, almost 4 years of battling like that and now losing him

Raspberryjamsandwich · 05/01/2024 12:08

Kate was on I'm a celebrity just before the pandemic and her husband featured a lot supporting her and cheering her on. I can clearly remember thinking what a lovely couple they were and what a great family they had. I was so shocked by what followed soon after when he caught Covid and suffered so much.
I'm genuinely sad for them all.

CurrentHun · 05/01/2024 12:08

Flowers For everyone with a similar story themselves, or who are affected by this one. I’m sorry for your loss.
