To be angry with DH and his greediness

Every year this happens, DH loves food, DH eats lots and lots of food. He eats a huge Christmas dinner then keeps going to the fridge and eating the leftovers. Yesterday we had a buffet, he ate loads yesterday too, today he ate buffet leftovers and cooked up all the leftovers I hadn’t cooked. He’s now farting like mad and complaining he had a sore stomach. Next he’ll be complaining he’s put on weight and we will have the saga of him losing it again.

To be fair he is built like an athlete, runs and gyms most days so he can eat loads. But he has zero willpower over food, he eats really fast, so gulps down air then farts loads. He gets greedy so if they’re a tub of Pringles he wants to eat them all. I told him to go take some Deflatine and he says he can’t be bothered so I’m kind of glad he had a sore stomach.

I’ve also just started my period so I’m going to have cramps tomorrow so I am angry for no reason and if he farts on the night and annoys me I’m going to kick him to sleep on the sofas because right now I hate him.

That does sound annoying and a little disgusting if I’m honest. I’m not sure what you could do about it though apart from buying less next year so that he can’t gorge on food like that.

Hope you had a lovely Christmas. 💐

YANBU. I can’t abide greediness and “foodies”. It’s disgusting.

bellac11 · 28/12/2023 09:24

Most people are like this at christmas.

Wow. You sound like a bundle of joy.

Missingmyusername · 28/12/2023 09:24

Oh my goodness with the farting! YANBU to kick him out of the bed!

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 28/12/2023 09:27

Sounds off-putting but not sure what you can do about it Sad

ManateeFair · 28/12/2023 09:29

Unless he does this every weekend, I couldn’t begrudge him a few days of over-indulging at Christmas, really.

It’s been non-stop trumping at our house to be honest

Ukholidaysaregreat · 28/12/2023 09:31

Hahaha! Manatee 'non stop trumping' is the best Christmas description ever. I might have to pinch the saying. This describes our house to a tee! Hahaha!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 28/12/2023 09:32

@ReindeerShelter - you can be a foodie without being greedy. What's your issue with food?

OP the gluttony when leftovers could provide everyone with an easy meal and, frankly, are a cook's perk, would piss me off.

AncientBallerina · 28/12/2023 09:33

Liking the feeling of being stuffed is not being a foodie, I thought. Foodies are people who are ‘into’ food but don’t necessarily stuff themselves.
Both equally annoying.

Confused A foodie is a person who is very interested in high quality food, and often in cooking it, not just eating it. It's not someone who stuffs themselves.

He does sound a bit OTT with it, OP. But if it's just for a day or two over Christmas, it's hardly unusual. Lots of people do seriously overindulge.

determinedtomakethiswork · 28/12/2023 09:44

It's so selfish, not leaving anything for anyone else. And it's disgusting too.

Delassalle · 28/12/2023 09:51

He sounds repulsive.

On the bright side though, here is his next years Christmas present sorted -

RoachFish · 28/12/2023 09:51

Gluttony is very unattractive and farting is on a completely different level of unattractiveness so I don’t blame you for feeling like it’s off putting.

I just had this ‘discussion’ with DH about breakfast. He’s moaning that we have nothing in (only got back from seeing relatives late last night). I said I’ll make a curry at lunchtime and there are plenty of snack things that we bought home with us. But apparently he has to have breakfast and it has to be a typical breakfast thing, like toast. A mince pie will not do. He’s eaten enough to feed a small country in the last few days but is acting like me and DS are wierd because we are skipping breakfast!

PaperDoIIs · 28/12/2023 10:02

Is this only at Christmas or in general? Does it leave you short of food for guests or the family?

NoSquirrels · 28/12/2023 10:07

Apart from the fact he’s moaning about the after-effects of his overindulgence, is it really an issue? Most people eat more at Christmas - it’s a feast! - enjoy buffet food and leftovers and then decide they should rein it in. Farting is pretty normal too, tbh. The moaning is annoying but the rest - meh.

RosesSmellLikePoo · 28/12/2023 10:10

Oh I’ve got no patience with greedy fuckers, it makes me irrationally angry.

ignore any whinging about stomach ache other than to tell him eating like a pig tends to result in that!! To be honest, I’d probably leave him as greediness really is a deal breaker for me.

Cherrysoup · 28/12/2023 10:12

Who did the cooking? Any extra was another meal here, no stuffing down leftovers. Could you ask him to leave food in the fridge Because you’ve earmarked it for next day’s lunch etc?

Desmondo2021 · 28/12/2023 10:13

So he looks after himself with exercise and he can also let his hair down. Go easy on him!

He's hardly unreasonable! Why should he eat a mince pie for breakfast! Toast is a reasonable request - but obviously he should go & sort it himself.

Flapjacker48 · 28/12/2023 10:15

Are you from a more middle class background than him?

EarringsandLipstick · 28/12/2023 10:15

You sound like you really don't like him OP.

It's not the most attractive description, I agree. I don't see an issue with the food; the farting is gross & he needs to manage that & not inflict it on you.
