To be angry with DH and his greediness

headache · 27/12/2023 23:17

Every year this happens, DH loves food, DH eats lots and lots of food. He eats a huge Christmas dinner then keeps going to the fridge and eating the leftovers. Yesterday we had a buffet, he ate loads yesterday too, today he ate buffet leftovers and cooked up all the leftovers I hadn’t cooked. He’s now farting like mad and complaining he had a sore stomach. Next he’ll be complaining he’s put on weight and we will have the saga of him losing it again.

To be fair he is built like an athlete, runs and gyms most days so he can eat loads. But he has zero willpower over food, he eats really fast, so gulps down air then farts loads. He gets greedy so if they’re a tub of Pringles he wants to eat them all. I told him to go take some Deflatine and he says he can’t be bothered so I’m kind of glad he had a sore stomach.

I’ve also just started my period so I’m going to have cramps tomorrow so I am angry for no reason and if he farts on the night and annoys me I’m going to kick him to sleep on the sofas because right now I hate him.

You havent seen much of it?

Its every other thread, along with 'my toddler would eat more than that' and various thin as a rake strapping teens who eat a fridges worth of food a day

I've sern plenty of those yes, but conversations about what growing children and teenagers would eat isn't the same imo.

It also wasn't really the point I was trying to make.

Are you from a more middle class background than him?

Snobbish at its finest! My WC husband does not eat like this not do any of his family. My very MC uncle does though.

What selfishness though? The farting? You think women don’t fart? She’s not said he’s left others without food.

folks are just pushing back because this isn’t a man thing. Plenty of women over eat. They all fart. But if a man came on calling his wife greedy and saying he wanted to kick her out the bed and he hated ger for it, there would be an outcry. About fat shaming, or why she was over eating and how he was abusive.

Actually no I genuinely haven't seen much of that on here. I've seen a lot more of competitive undereating posts though, trying to shame posters if they think that their portions were too big.

Neither of which was my point. Eating so much your stomach hurts and your passing huge amounts of stinky wind, and eating all the leftovers and all of a packet of something like pringles with no consideration for if anybody else might have wanted some, is more common in men in my experience- my real lived experience, not just the internet posts I read.

Well to be fair, you've said you haven't actually read many so that'll be where the discrepancy lies.

VanityDiesHard · 28/12/2023 12:23

YANBU and this would make me feel a bit sick TBH. I have a hearty appetite but days' worth of gluttony would be very offputting to me.

Topsy44 · 28/12/2023 12:24

The over eating wouldn’t bother me - most of us do that at Xmas. If the farting is constant that would really annoy me!!!

ObliviousCoalmine · 28/12/2023 12:25

ReindeerShelter · 28/12/2023 09:23

YANBU. I can’t abide greediness and “foodies”. It’s disgusting.

The two things do not go hand in hand.

LoopyLooooo · 28/12/2023 12:25

@Grimchmas you should do a bit of logging in to MN at Easter.

It's full of MNetters eating their kids Easter eggs that others have bought them, and giggling about it 'being kind to their teeth' 🙄

JANEY205 · 28/12/2023 12:26

Eating leftovers and entire packets of things like Pringle’s IS greedy. I’d tell him no wonder you’re overweight I don’t want to hear about it! But then my husband wouldn’t dream of scoffing all the food and eating a whole pack of anything without checking with others and neither would I!

amusedbush · 28/12/2023 12:35

DH is the gassiest person I have ever met and it gets a bit wearing. I have raging IBS but for some reason, I just don't really fart and certainly not in front of people. I have never (knowingly and while awake!) farted in front of him - not once in 11 years.

I'll admit I got a bit short with him yesterday, though. He has been grazing constantly since Christmas Eve and it has led to frequent belching, which gives me the boke.

TravelInHope · 28/12/2023 11:09

But he is a man who farts. So intrinsically a vile creature.

Well on MN, the fact he's a man means he has no redeeming features!

Seaside3 · 28/12/2023 12:48

I find it unattractive when anyone just wolfs everything down, without thinking about others. My dh has no control st buffets and will just return over and over until he physically can't fit more in. Even he doesn't like it, but it seems to be some kind of compulsion.

So, I rarely serve buffet/family style, I portion before we eat and there's always seconds if anyone wants it. Left overs are put in the freezer, and I try not to over buy. I rarely ask him to pop to the shop because he will buy the list, plus loads of treats. It's gross and infuriating when trying to watch the budget. He has improved though, since he started taking care of himself a bit, and i try really, really hard not to comment, as I know this triggers his defiance more.

As for belching/fitting, I started suggesting I will join him. He soon stopped.

The absolute issues with food on this website.

People enjoying food = “revolting”

There is a difference between enjoying food and having a bit to much trifle - to gluttony and flatulence

stayathomer · 28/12/2023 12:55

Op you have just described me and a lot of the population at Christmas time- eat too much, moan afterwards, go back for more!!!

Grapewrath · 28/12/2023 12:58

Sounds absolutely gross.
The greed and over eating at Christmas in some homes is quite something else

Grapewrath · 28/12/2023 12:59

Also thee is having extra treats and snacks at Christmas and there is eating everything in sight until you get a bad stomach and fart all over the place.
Thd first is fine and expected the second is just minging

@Gardeningtime

there wouldn’t be an outcry

most people would find it just as gross coming from a woman as a man

OnionRings82 · 28/12/2023 13:03

Not a great advert for marriage 😅

Are you from a more middle class background than him?

What, because the working class fart more and can’t control their portions?

rwalker · 28/12/2023 13:07

Male ,athletic and gym loads he will need /be able to eat a lot more than u
So if you compare his eating to yours he will seem greedy
mhe probably is hungry rather than greedy

StolenCookie · 28/12/2023 13:08

I think people are being a bit mean. If he goes to the gym most days he’s much fitter than the majority of the country! I’m going to be blunt and say if he’s not hugely overweight then I don’t think it’s a problem.

Mercurysinretrograde · 28/12/2023 13:14

A cup of tea and a mince pie makes an excellent breakfast, but my DH also can’t understand a non-breakfast food at breakfast. This year I catered quite carefully so that by the evening of the 26th there were no leftovers precisely so I didn’t have a fridge full of greasy cheesy delights. The dog was farting outrageously though 😂

Grimpo · 28/12/2023 13:18

What would happen if you told him you needed the leftovers for another meal and he is NOT to eat them? Would he keep away from them?

YANBU. I can’t abide greediness and “foodies”. It’s disgusting.

What do you mean by “foodies”? Foodies and greed are two different things.

It does sound pretty gross but only if it’s a regular thing and not just the usual Christmas over-indulgence.

Such inherent sexism . Men cook and shop too. Why is the op In charge of the fridge. By way of having a vagina so she is assumed to be in charge of the food?
