To be angry with DH and his greediness

headache · 27/12/2023 23:17

Every year this happens, DH loves food, DH eats lots and lots of food. He eats a huge Christmas dinner then keeps going to the fridge and eating the leftovers. Yesterday we had a buffet, he ate loads yesterday too, today he ate buffet leftovers and cooked up all the leftovers I hadn’t cooked. He’s now farting like mad and complaining he had a sore stomach. Next he’ll be complaining he’s put on weight and we will have the saga of him losing it again.

To be fair he is built like an athlete, runs and gyms most days so he can eat loads. But he has zero willpower over food, he eats really fast, so gulps down air then farts loads. He gets greedy so if they’re a tub of Pringles he wants to eat them all. I told him to go take some Deflatine and he says he can’t be bothered so I’m kind of glad he had a sore stomach.

I’ve also just started my period so I’m going to have cramps tomorrow so I am angry for no reason and if he farts on the night and annoys me I’m going to kick him to sleep on the sofas because right now I hate him.

YANBU. I can’t abide greediness and “foodies”. It’s disgusting.

Foodies are people who enjoy great quality (not quantity) food and enjoy talking about it, sharing recommendations and recipes and get genuine joy from excellent meals.

They are not gluttons.

Cynderella · 28/12/2023 11:44

Being greedy AND eating so fast suggests it's an issue with food generally rather than Christmas gluttony. Getting angry with him, or he being angry with himself won't change his attitude towards food, it'll just turn him into a guilty secret eater. I've lived with someone like this for years, and it's infuriating - for years, he denied and excused it, and even now, while there's recognition that it's an issue, it's not gone.

Trieditall · 28/12/2023 11:45

If it’s literally only three days over Christmas then I would let him off. Most people over-indulge. I wouldn’t appreciate the farting though.

Foodies can overeat like anyone else.

Im one

Most food critics are overweight

Lesina · 28/12/2023 11:50

That is vomit inducing. I’d sack him off for that.

Grimchmas · 28/12/2023 11:51

Overindulgence to the point of rancid frequent farts and not making an effort to stop it from impacting you (leaving the room, opening a window, having a poo to clear out), is above and beyond normal festive overindulgence and YANBU.

What would bother me even more though would be the lack of consideration for other people in eating all of everything that he wants without checking with you first if you want some leaving. That's really selfish and unpleasant.

He sounds like my 19 year son minus the farting. He eats around 4000-8000 calories a day. Any left overs he eats. Any ingredients for family meals He eats. He is just undrr 8 stone and God knows what's up with him. He recently ate loads as per normal. Went out boozing, had McDonald's, his two mates McDonald's then came home and ate two entire Greggs to good to go bags. Donuts, pastry, baguettes, 4 festive slices.

Friend suggested he has a eating disorder but it looklike he might have a thyroid issue. But it's a lack of self control and disregard for the rest of us who also need to eat.

@DyslexicPoster

i hope you’ve had words with this 19 year old MAN! He sounds very inconsiderate to the rest of you

Miscellaneousme · 28/12/2023 11:52

Imagine if this was a man talking about a female partner?

Guessing that a few days of over indulgence from someone athletic and active perhaps isn't the real issue here.

@Miscellaneousme

i would still think it rank if a female was doing it 🤷‍♀️

He sounds vile

yes of course they can (I am one too) but that's zero reason to make the comment that prompted the responses about foodies.

Most people are like this at christmas.

Utter nonsense.

Most people will eat more at Christmas, but not to that degree.

So would most of us, of course it's the behaviour that's being criticised, not sexism.

It's also just oh so predictable that it was a man, because that level of selfishness and gross is more often than not behaviour from a male not a woman.

And of course a few days of overindulgence isn't the issue here. It's the complete selfishness and lack of consideration for his (or her 😏) partner and family - both their comfort from the bowel stench, the moaning about totally self-inflicted discomfort, and the fact that they might have wanted or have been planning to have some of the pringles or leftovers.

What a strange thing to get annoyed about. People who like quality food. Strange.

Gardeningtime · 28/12/2023 11:59

Trying to imagine if the genders were reversed and a man was posting about his wife over eating, being greedy, farting, how he hated her and how he was going to kick her out the bed, and what kind of outcry there would be.

Yes. As women all eat one leaf of lettuce daintily. I’ve seen plenty of women indulge In gluttony and going by some of the threads on here, it’s very common.

Huh? Have you never read the threads where MNetters are trying to outdo each other with how much food they can put away in one sitting?

If you think it's more of a 'man' thing that'll be because the majority of posters here are female, so they'll be posting about their male partners greed rather than their own.

But still plenty do post about their own.

Way to completely miss my point and make shit up that I neither said nor implied. But you knew that and were being facetious.

Well no, you wrote this behaviour was more often men than women, I think it’s fair enough posters point out that’s nonsense. Both men and women indulge in gluttony ans some of the competitive over eating threads on here and quite eye opening.

Pieces2015 · 28/12/2023 12:07

Oh I’ve got no patience with greedy fuckers, it makes me irrationally angry.

ignore any whinging about stomach ache other than to tell him eating like a pig tends to result in that!! To be honest, I’d probably leave him as greediness really is a deal breaker for me.

You’d leave a long marriage with children because your husband overindulged at Christmas?

MN is completely nuts at times 😁

Actually no I genuinely haven't seen much of that on here. I've seen a lot more of competitive undereating posts though, trying to shame posters if they think that their portions were too big.

Neither of which was my point. Eating so much your stomach hurts and your passing huge amounts of stinky wind, and eating all the leftovers and all of a packet of something like pringles with no consideration for if anybody else might have wanted some, is more common in men in my experience- my real lived experience, not just the internet posts I read.

bellac11 · 28/12/2023 12:12

You havent seen much of it?

Its every other thread, along with 'my toddler would eat more than that' and various thin as a rake strapping teens who eat a fridges worth of food a day

It's the selfishness that I was trying to point out was more common in men than women, not overindulgence.

I'm the fattest person in my household, no lettuce leaf nibbling here 😆 - but I wouldn't eat all the leftovers without consideration for other people, or an entire tube of pringles without offering them around. And if I got wind, I would learnmy lesson try not to just sit there farting in front of others out of courtesy. I do think that men tend towards being more selfish in these behaviours and women more considerate.

Now if you excuse me I have part baked baguettes to spread with pate 😁

I know. I can’t believe anyone who has been on here more than a few mins hasn’t seen it, from eating the kids selection boxes. To replacing all the Xmas goodies, eating when the kids are in bed, even the infamous, a box of donuts is a portion.
