To be angry with DH and his greediness

Every year this happens, DH loves food, DH eats lots and lots of food. He eats a huge Christmas dinner then keeps going to the fridge and eating the leftovers. Yesterday we had a buffet, he ate loads yesterday too, today he ate buffet leftovers and cooked up all the leftovers I hadn’t cooked. He’s now farting like mad and complaining he had a sore stomach. Next he’ll be complaining he’s put on weight and we will have the saga of him losing it again.

To be fair he is built like an athlete, runs and gyms most days so he can eat loads. But he has zero willpower over food, he eats really fast, so gulps down air then farts loads. He gets greedy so if they’re a tub of Pringles he wants to eat them all. I told him to go take some Deflatine and he says he can’t be bothered so I’m kind of glad he had a sore stomach.

I’ve also just started my period so I’m going to have cramps tomorrow so I am angry for no reason and if he farts on the night and annoys me I’m going to kick him to sleep on the sofas because right now I hate him.

YANBU. I can’t abide greediness and “foodies”. It’s disgusting.

Nobody mentioned a gourmet meal though, so not sure where you're getting the "foodies" from. OP's DH sure doesn't sound like one.

Are you from a more middle class background than him?

Right, well that's me over-invested on a wet, gloomy day.

What is wrong with being a “foodie”? I don’t like the expression - but I understand the meaning to be very different to someone who is greedy - more someone who is interested in good food and enjoys trying new restaurants, etc .

Hapagirl48 · 28/12/2023 10:37

My DH is similar though he doesn’t do the farting. And he does a lot of cooking. But I am concerned about his everyday gluttony. He’s super fit so you wouldn’t tell be looking at him but he eats at least 4 big meals a day, snacks on junk food throughout the day, and scoffs while watching tv at night. I think that’s how he was brought up because his parents are the same, his dad is more disgusting about it though and both his parents now have pre-diabetes and are overweight. I noticed it more after he started working from home during lockdown and while it bothers me that he does this to himself, my main issue is he is constantly pushing food into our DCs now. He thinks of it as love but they put on so much weight in the lockdowns and now I feel like a gate keeping of portions and even the food that comes in the house . I find it really stressful and I do think he has an eating disorder of sorts but he won’t discuss it.

I just had this ‘discussion’ with DH about breakfast. He’s moaning that we have nothing in (only got back from seeing relatives late last night). I said I’ll make a curry at lunchtime and there are plenty of snack things that we bought home with us. But apparently he has to have breakfast and it has to be a typical breakfast thing, like toast. A mince pie will not do. He’s eaten enough to feed a small country in the last few days but is acting like me and DS are wierd because we are skipping breakfast!

Expecting to have breakfast is hardly unreasonable. I wouldn't eat a mince pie for breakfast either!

SmellyKat10 · 28/12/2023 10:44

The absolute issues with food on this website.

People enjoying food = “revolting”

LuckySantangelo35 · 28/12/2023 10:45

ManateeFair · 28/12/2023 09:29

Unless he does this every weekend, I couldn’t begrudge him a few days of over-indulging at Christmas, really.

It’s been non-stop trumping at our house to be honest

@ManateeFair

urgh!! Your house must really smell!

Do middle class people just not need to fart? Or do they have stronger sphincters than the commoners?

EarringsandLipstick · 28/12/2023 10:46

😂😂😂

LuckySantangelo35 · 28/12/2023 10:49

I couldn’t fancy him with that behaviour op , he sounds proper gross

honeylulu · 28/12/2023 10:51

I has mince pies and brandy butter for breakfast and it was awesome. There is no law that breakfast was to be toast or cereal! Why is he moaning at you that there is no bread. Tell him to get off his arse and walk to the shop to get some if he wants it. Burn a few of those calories!

My father was greedy like that and it really annoyed the rest of us. If it was something he liked he would just keep ploughing through it, regardless of whether anyone else would like some. My mum would sometimes object because she had planned a meal from certain leftovers. His stock reply was always "oh I thought it needed using up" like he was doing her a favour by behaving like a human dustbin.

Well that poster didn't actually say her DH was expecting her to get breakfast items, just that he wanted toast! Assuming he's happy to go & get it, that's fine.

If you're enjoying mince pies & brandy butter that's fine but it's not a common breakfast food!

CurlewKate · 28/12/2023 10:59

He can eat what he wants. What he can't do is fart in front of you. He can go to the bathroom like a civilised human being.

@EarringsandLipstick

he doesn’t need to have a “common breakfast food” every single morning. He can have what’s in or just skip breakfast- doesn’t do any of us any harm to
skip a meal from time to time.

successismyonlymotherfuckingoptionfailuresnot · 28/12/2023 11:00

I love eating leftovers, I can't see that he's doing anything that would bother me on the food front. We all over indulge in this house at Christmas! The farting is foul - if I'm windy from over eating I go into the bathroom, I'd never sit with DH complaining about my stomach and letting them rip

MorningSunshineSparkles · 28/12/2023 11:00

Anyone else remember the greedy DH troll that farted all the time? This post really reminded me of that.

Sounds tough OP!

time for what?!

Selenitetower · 28/12/2023 11:03

😂😂 you’ve just described my DH to a tee. I feel your pain. All the man does is eat all day long, farts all night long (one night he farted in bed and it was so rancid it woke me up) and complains about his weight 🫠 I have no advice, our kids are away with the in-laws at the moment so I’ve been sleeping in one of their beds most nights. I love him but my god is he gross sometimes 😂

Hubblebubble · 28/12/2023 11:03

Another thread to remind me how wonderful being single is!

EarringsandLipstick · 28/12/2023 11:03

@LuckySantangelo35

Oh don't be silly! He can have whatever he prefers for breakfast. And if that's a 'common breakfast item' that's fine.

He doesn't have to be happy with treat food or mince pies for breakfast.

The only point that's relevant is that he gets it himself obviously.

Not really for someone else to dictate when another adult should or shouldnt eat though is it?

Or what they should eat

Mince Pies for breakfast (or any other "Christmas" food for that matter) is the best part of Christmas.

But if he expects breakfast - he is a grown man and can organise it, surely?

You love him? 🥺 farts so badly that you are woken up and you're currently in the kids' bedroom.

No. He sounds awful.

Not for me. Sounds awful. But yes, he needs to get it himself.

But there are posts berating the man for not being happy with treats & mince pies for breakfast. 🤷🏻‍♀️
