Are people really having a Sunday roast today? I'm working anyway so not cooking anything, but my SIL is grumbling on the family WhatsApp about having to do all the trimmings 2 days in a row!

God no! Freezer tapas tonight.

AhBiscuits · 24/12/2023 08:49

No, I've bought some supermarket pizzas for dinner.

Mumof2NDers · 24/12/2023 08:50

We won’t be. I’ll be sticking to my usual Xmas eve tradition of “picky bits” for tea 😀.

dontforgetme · 24/12/2023 08:50

Hell no! Christmas Eve buffet here as always.

2bumpsor3 · 24/12/2023 08:50

We are actually I'm doing roast beef and all the trimmings but we're going out for food tomorrow to a lovely local resturant so I feel like I should cook!

TooOldForThisNonsense · 24/12/2023 08:51

No. I am going out for lunch and thought ooh maybe I’ll have a carvery but nope! I’ll get something else

The perfect Christmas eve tea IMO. Cracking out the cheese and pickles!

Absolutely not

Isntfurenough · 24/12/2023 08:51

No we aren’t we are having paprika chicken with a rocket salad, roasted vine tomatoes and a rice salad, and a clementine pannetone cake for dessert.

We have a roast every Sunday except when it’s really hot in summer I think dh would have one today though he looked a bit perplexed about not having one (but he has asd so likes to follow routines and meal planning is part of that)

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 24/12/2023 08:52

Nope, fish & chips & Prosecco

pilates · 24/12/2023 08:52

No way

NancyJoan · 24/12/2023 08:53

I never, ever cook a roast on a Sunday, so no. Tonight we’ll have smoked salmon/prawns/salad, with fresh bread if I can persuade DH to go to the shops.

BrimfulOfMash · 24/12/2023 08:53

Massive Christmas Eve beef dinner tonight, Turkey dinner tomorrow evening!

But we all pitch in, that’s the issue your SIL is havjng!

ManateeFair · 24/12/2023 08:53

We’re going out for lunch today and no, not for a roast! Each to their own but I wouldn’t fancy doing a roast two days in a row.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 24/12/2023 08:54

Yep. Roast beef for us. But tbf that's because we aren't having Boxing day this year because of work schedules. Not because it's a Sunday.

HardcoreLadyType · 24/12/2023 08:54

Is there no other festive meal she could possibly think of to make other than a roast, for today?

But then, I don’t always cook a roast on Sundays, anyway. For most of the year, it’s just me, DH and FIL on a Sunday.

If my family expected a roast every Sunday, they would just have to “expect away” (as said by Bernard Black in Black Books).

SoOutingWhoCares · 24/12/2023 08:54

Gammon in Air Fryer, Frozen Cauliflower Cheese, some sort of potato (either boiled baby potatoes or chips), tinned pineapple and peas here. Not much effort.

Chasingsquirrels · 24/12/2023 08:54

We wouldn't normally, but this year DP & I are going to my parents for tea and I think they are doing a roast.
We aren't doing anything Christmas day (and I haven't considered what we will eat yet).
Then on Boxing day my kids are with me, my parents will come over, and we are having our Christmas meal & celebration.

The kids (young adults) have a big meal 2 days running but their appetites & metabolism can manage!

ofestivetree · 24/12/2023 08:55

She doesnt have to do it though? Or is her partner an abusive prick?

Jacfrost · 24/12/2023 08:55

AhBiscuits · 24/12/2023 08:49

No, I've bought some supermarket pizzas for dinner.

Same. Xmas eve tradition here!

NightIbble · 24/12/2023 08:56

Nope, I normally host Christmas eve and try to do something completely different, one year was venison stew last year was curry and this year sausage and mash! Still effort as I've got 4 different sausages and 3 types of mash but I don't have to do Christmas Dinner so don't mind.

cuckyplunt · 24/12/2023 08:57

We always have Chinese. DH about to brave the mobs for two lots of M&S crispy duck.

Stress101 · 24/12/2023 08:59

Always order a takeaway on Christmas Eve.

idontlikealdi · 24/12/2023 09:00

No. Crispy duck and pancakes here.

We rarely have a roast on Sunday anyway.

Muchof · 24/12/2023 09:01

Very odd that she is doing a roast dinner today, it would spoil tomorrow for me. I usually do something that slow cooks like osso buccoo, coq au vin or braised beef cheeks. However tonight DH is going to do steak frites and we will maybe have some cheese and port later.
