Are people really having a Sunday roast today? I'm working anyway so not cooking anything, but my SIL is grumbling on the family WhatsApp about having to do all the trimmings 2 days in a row!

OP posts:

Christmas Eve is always fish here too

MrsPoliportsGoose · 24/12/2023 09:31

Full roast beef dinner with all the trimmings here this afternoon, off to MIL tomorrow for turkey. Need the leftovers for bubble on Boxing Day!

Pourmeanotherwine · 24/12/2023 09:31

Nope. We normally go out for pizza Christmas eve, but DH and I both have Covid, so we're going to have spag bol.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 24/12/2023 09:33

Nope! Brunch in a greasy spoon then picky bits with champagne for dinner

As per our Christmas eve tradition.

StillWantingADog · 24/12/2023 09:34

No. But we never make Sunday roasts anyway.

Combusting · 24/12/2023 09:37

I don’t understand women who slave away at various such.

Anyway….

Here it’s a whole side of salmon for Xmas eve lunch.

Dinner is- 18 piece Chinese selection, breaded prawns, 10 piece Indian selection, a quiche. Victoria sponge cake

tchotchke · 24/12/2023 09:39

AhBiscuits · 24/12/2023 08:49

No, I've bought some supermarket pizzas for dinner.

Same here. We’ll be eating roast lamb for the rest of the week judging by the leg of lamb I ordered from the butcher to feed 4. I think he misheard. 🤣

Allmarbleslost · 24/12/2023 09:40

No! Who wants to eat a roast two
days in a row?

Rockfordpeach · 24/12/2023 09:41

Homemade sausage rolls with chips and salad tonight

NortieTortie · 24/12/2023 09:42

We're having a lamb dinner today, then ordering a Chinese and eating that tomorrow.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 24/12/2023 09:42

Takeaway tonight as always on Xmas eve. No one has to cook with all the cooking we have to do over the next couple of days.

ChewbaccasMrs · 24/12/2023 09:42

Nope, were having a Chinese takeaway (and I can't wait) it's tradition in our house for every Christmas Eve.

luckylavender · 24/12/2023 09:44

Out for a pub lunch as always.

CurzonDax · 24/12/2023 09:44

Nope. We are cooking a roast gammon joint today, but only because I want the gammon alongside the turkey tomorrow, and don't want to cook both meats tomorrow.

But we'll be sticking some frozen chips in the oven, and frying up a couple eggs each - so gammon, eggs, and chips tonight for us :)

ChiaraRimini · 24/12/2023 09:44

I always cook the ham today (Nigella's ham in coke recipe) and we have it with baked potatoes, red cabbage and carrots for dinner followed by mince pies.
Xmas Eve dinner is very much part of the traditional menu, and the same every year by popular demand!

meganorks · 24/12/2023 09:45

No one wants roast 2 days in a row so I would say she's ruining Christmas Dinner a bit.

Freezer tea for us (mystery lucky dip, particularly if not labelled!)

EmpressSoleil · 24/12/2023 09:49

We always have our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve anyway so it makes no difference. Not that I usually do a Sunday roast anyway. But no, I wouldn’t want a roast dinner 2 days in a row.

ItAintGonnaGoDownEasyIfItAintCheezy · 24/12/2023 09:51

Traditional Christmas eve ham, bread, pickles here.

Never do another roast on Christmas eve. Fuck that.

Shangrilalala · 24/12/2023 09:51

We always had a fishy Christmas Eve but then DS wasn’t keen. So it’s now puttanesca every year for us, which at least has anchovies in it. And the house doesn’t small quite so pungent on Christmas morning.

SouthLondonMum22 · 24/12/2023 09:52

No way. We usually have a party buffet for Christmas Eve or occasionally a takeaway, will be buffet this year.

Judellie · 24/12/2023 09:52

Yes, same as most Sundays. Tomorrow there'll be a starter and desser as well but that will be at my mum's.

Judellie · 24/12/2023 09:53

dessert

Wellhellooooodear · 24/12/2023 09:54

No way

OhIlovetosew · 24/12/2023 09:54

The usual Christmas Eve ham and dauphinois potatoes for us.

Dotjones · 24/12/2023 09:55

I'm not but I don't usually bother with a proper Sunday roast. I think it's fine though if that's someone's routine, it is Sunday after all. As long as they're doing pork or beef or lamb today, not sure a roast chicken the day before roast turkey is the best idea.
