Sunday lunch the day before Christmas day?

Are people really having a Sunday roast today? I'm working anyway so not cooking anything, but my SIL is grumbling on the family WhatsApp about having to do all the trimmings 2 days in a row!

We are having Spanakopita and salad for lunch and ready-meal Aubergine Parmaginana for dinner

Scarlettpixie · 24/12/2023 11:45

We are having soup for lunch and a buffet (party food) tea today.

We will be having another gravy dinner on boxing day with the leftovers so it would start to get a bit boring if we had one today too.

Zanatdy · 24/12/2023 11:47

No way, I’m doing roast Christmas Day and Boxing Day so definitely not today too

egowise · 24/12/2023 11:48

I am having a mini Christmas today with my edlest. So yeah, a mini roast for lunch.
Then pizza for dinner later with the little ones.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 24/12/2023 11:49

Xmas dinner for us tonight and curry tomorrow on the big day

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/12/2023 11:51

Certainly not here. I’ll probably have cheese or an egg on toast.
However I will be doing a post-Christmas roast on around the 29th - a lovely joint of pork is waiting in the freezer.

PandaCory · 24/12/2023 12:02

No, we've got pizza and a selection of beige buffet stuff for this evening.

BerriesNutsConkers · 24/12/2023 12:14

I've just made pizza dough! Movies and pizza later.
I cooked a ham joint last night so we will have sarnies pickles and crisps for lunch today.
We are going to the inlaws tomorrow for lunch and my mums on boxing day (all local)......Three roasts would be too much!!!!

Personally I would not do a toast 2 days in a row. Too much work and also I don't think we'd fancy it twice.

I fancy toast every day.

Xmas Grin
CICTGIGF · 24/12/2023 12:19

We are making our own pizzas and having some buffet bits to snack on.

TheShellBeach · 24/12/2023 12:20

We're having The Poor Man's Meal.

It's essentially sausages and saute potatoes.

You can find the recipe on You Tube.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 24/12/2023 12:32

Nope. We normally have sausages and bacon in baguettes on Christmas Eve, but we swapped that to a couple of days ago for various reason, so we're having spag bol today.

Mumof2teens79 · 24/12/2023 12:37

I wonder if its a mis-com...is she doing all the trimming today for tomorrow?

We have a roast once or twice a month, but tend to stop in December, partly because we are often busy and partly to make xmas roast more special.
I definitely would not be cooking one today, even if I wasn't cooking tomorrow.

Last night was takeaway which is normal on a Saturday but definitely no room in fridge for stuff to cook.
Lunch has been left overs and freezer tapas
And then we go out xmas eve for a nice meal....but not a roast or anything similar.

greentreez23 · 24/12/2023 15:11

KFC today

ChimChimeny · 24/12/2023 15:12

KFC for tea here, it's our Christmas eve tradition with my mum & her DP
No cooking today!

ChimChimeny · 24/12/2023 15:13

@greentreez23 jinx 😁

sprigatito · 24/12/2023 15:13

Indian takeaway here. We usually do a big afternoon tea spread with lots of homemade goodies on Christmas Eve, but we're all knackered and ds2 is at work anyway, so fuck it.

CasperGutman · 24/12/2023 15:33

God no. We're going out to a noodle place after the panto.

BCBird · 24/12/2023 15:34

She should say she is not doing it

Crunchymum · 24/12/2023 15:36

Take away pizza for us later but we did have roast beef and all the trimmings yesterday at In-laws (and they'll be doing a full on roast tomorrow)

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 24/12/2023 15:42

We always have homemade lasagne, garlic bread, chips and salad on Christmas Eve...I enjoy this so much more than Christmas Dinner!

fishfingersandtoes · 24/12/2023 16:26

No, but absolute hats off to the boss ladies who are!

Abracadabra12345 · 24/12/2023 16:52

AhBiscuits · 24/12/2023 08:49

No, I've bought some supermarket pizzas for dinner.

I was so tempted to do that but I hadn't planned it so I'd have had to go into a supermarket- on Christmas Eve 😱. So no.

Instead, we're having a big stir fry.

I deliberately don't do anything special leading up to Christmas Day so that it's more of a feast and a treat

Abracadabra12345 · 24/12/2023 16:55

RoseDog · 24/12/2023 09:01

It's a take away here, not decided what yet!

I declare at the start of December there is no Sunday roasts!

Exactly!

ALongHardWinter · 24/12/2023 17:12

Seriously? Do people really do this?!
