Sunday lunch the day before Christmas day?

Are people really having a Sunday roast today? I'm working anyway so not cooking anything, but my SIL is grumbling on the family WhatsApp about having to do all the trimmings 2 days in a row!

Don't often do a Sunday roast anyway, but we always have a takeaway on Christmas Eve.

RoseDog · 24/12/2023 09:01

It's a take away here, not decided what yet!

I declare at the start of December there is no Sunday roasts!

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 24/12/2023 09:01

No oven party food for us.

Mindymomo · 24/12/2023 09:04

We normally have Indian takeaway but are going to get pizzas delivered, will order them late morning, it is DH’s suggestion, happy to go along with it.

KezzaMucklowe · 24/12/2023 09:06

Absolutely not, we had a mid week roast so that we could make extra potatoes and veg for bubble and squeak on boxing day. I thought that was cutting it a bit fine tbh.
We have our traditional meal out tonight- Christmas eve curry.

Evenstar · 24/12/2023 09:07

We are going to my brother’s for a buffet lunch and just having homemade soup, crusty bread and a cheese board this evening. I would never do a roast on Christmas Eve even though we normally have one on Sundays. In previous years I have cooked a salmon or made pasta

stargirl1701 · 24/12/2023 09:11

No, we always have a picnic under the tree on Christmas Eve.

Wanttobeok · 24/12/2023 09:12

We are having putanesca (whore sauce!)

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 24/12/2023 09:13

No, having a lighter lunch today.

Dashel · 24/12/2023 09:14

Home made pizza for us 😊

MorningSunshineSparkles · 24/12/2023 09:15

Nope, we’re having platter type food tonight. Cocktail sausages and cheese and onion rolls and chicken bites that I can either bung in the oven for 10 mins or serve cold. Too much to do and I won’t eat a heavy meal two days in a row, would flair up my stomach issues (though I’d actually love a roast tonight as it’s dinging it down with rain and colder than hell right now so I can see where your SIL is coming from!)

freshgreen · 24/12/2023 09:16

We are going out to our local bistro pub for early supper so that we can get the prep done today and have a clean and tidy house for the morning.

InSpainTheRain · 24/12/2023 09:17

Personally I would not do a toast 2 days in a row. Too much work and also I don't think we'd fancy it twice.

Harrriet · 24/12/2023 09:18

Usuallly a takeaway on Christmas eve but not this year. I've just taken salmon out of the freezer, everyone likes that luckily.

Tumbleweed101 · 24/12/2023 09:19

Not sure what we are having yet but it won’t be a roast as only me and one daughter at home today.

Smallngrumpy · 24/12/2023 09:21

Yes doing chicken roast today cos at the inlaws tomorrow and they dont do Christmas Dinner. We will have pizza and picky bits tomorrow.
I do the turkey ( a frozen joint) at New Years instead.

Funkyslippers · 24/12/2023 09:21

No but we're not big roast dinner eaters anyway. We'll obviously have one tomorrow & leftovers on Boxing Day so 2 days in a row anyway. Picky bits tonight!

Penguin34 · 24/12/2023 09:21

Fish finger sandwiches :)

elfintinsel · 24/12/2023 09:23

I usually do picky bits on Christmas Eve but dd1 asked for Nando's for a birthday treat then we were ill and couldn't go so we are going to Nando's today instead this year!

DinkyDonkey2018 · 24/12/2023 09:24

Not a chance in hell! I don't do Sunday lunch for the whole of December (in my mind, it makes it tastier on Christmas day...)

Grimpo · 24/12/2023 09:24

We traditionally have fish on Christmas Eve, so that's what we're doing today. Your SIL is the author of her own misfortune, she should just tell her family they are getting one roast this week and that's tomorrow's.

Maxus · 24/12/2023 09:24

Christmas dinner today and something that dosent take long to make tomorrow. That way everybody can enjoy the day without being chained to the kitchen.

Marmite27 · 24/12/2023 09:25

No way! We do a dish called ‘sausage pasta’ that the kids are guaranteed to eat. It’s changing to pigs in blankets pasta today!

catwithflowers · 24/12/2023 09:25

We are doing some pork fillet thing with a whisky and cream sauce which we had in Spain last week. It was lovely and we want to recreate that Spanish sunshine feeling 😂 ☀️

Boxing Day is picky things here, actually picky things and loads of left overs, so I feel we need a proper but simple 'meal' today

Spendonsend · 24/12/2023 09:29

We sort of do. We cook the ham today and the red cabbage and prep the potatoes. We eat some tonight and then tomorrow we eat the rest as part of the turkey roast.
