Fed up with the Instagram showing perfect homes, when the real world is much messier..: so show me your normal homes… here’s my messy (and a bit dated) kitchen

Oh..: and I’d recommend a name change before posting lol

Mine's way messier than the norm and when I take pictures inside the house of family etc I actively avoid showing the background. Pictures of inside my house are going nowhere near social media 😭 ( I'm working on the mess)

I think your kitchen looks nice and I think it's a good idea for a thread 🙂

What annoys me about my home is that is is very, very old and all the woodwork seems a bit battered and knocked up. So I could clean all damned day (I don't, btw) and it would still look a state.

This is pretty much my problem with the kitchen. I think it dates back to the early 90s or late 80s. Completely different cupboards in each side of the kitchen. It was probably height of fashion when it was put in. It’s very practical though

My home isn't Insta-staged, ever, but it is usually tidy and visitor ready.

Lovely idea but I am too ashamed to share. I avoid social media as I am so jealous of people’s perfect homes. My home is tatty and dated because I can’t afford to do anything about it. It’s actually a nice house but needs so many cosmetic improvements. I have been doing it room by room but it’s a long term project because of the crazy costs. My hallway is papered with horrible textured wallpaper but if I strip the paper the plaster will come off. It’s a huge and expensive project.

I am saving to do it and am so jealous of people who can just pay to get this stuff sorted.

I like both those kitchens, love the dark blue of the second pic and I love ops pic as seems like a busy family kitchen where lots goes on

OP is probably well intentioned so not wanting to shame them for the post. But please everyone stop sharing the inside of your houses on the internet. Seriously not safe. No matter how anonymous you think this might be, you can never be sure what happens to data in the future. Once it’s out there it’s there forever.

Thank you 😊. I do love my kitchen, I think that's why I tend to keep it so tidy. It has a table and seating area at the other end which I spend most of my time in (hardly use the sitting room) and I'm not very good at relaxing if a room is untidy.

This is the view from my sofa right now. The other side of the room is much worse!

We're lucky that we have a front room which is where we host guests, and I do keep that as visitor ready as possible. The kids toys still end up creeping in though!

Mine is was put in the 1970s and would probably fill most here with horror.

I don't think mine has been changed or decorated since the 60s so I don't think yours would fill me with horror!
