Fed up with the Instagram showing perfect homes, when the real world is much messier..: so show me your normal homes… here’s my messy (and a bit dated) kitchen

I am baffled by the posters thinking photo's of someones kitchen, could be used nefariously.

So that way of thinking, means Rightmove, where it names the actual street you live on, should not exist, or in fact, any estate agents if that's the case 😂😂

But it could potentially be identifying on here. I am baffled by the posters thinking that couldn't happen.

If you want to post lots of random pics of your home on here, then crack on, but that doesn't mean others want to - or should. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to. And posters not wanting to post pics of their HOME on mumsnet, don't deserve to be mocked and derided by people who think it's funny and clever to post snarky posts featuring silly little LOL-ing emojis.

Many people don't want to share. This thread tells you that, because most people haven't posted pics of their home/inside their home on here! (And they're not bloody going to.) Most pics on here so far, have come from the OP.

This is the view from my sofa right now. The other side of the room is much worse!

We're lucky that we have a front room which is where we host guests, and I do keep that as visitor ready as possible. The kids toys still end up creeping in though!

Oh yes.. a separate living room kept tidy is great. My dog thinks her toys should be all over it though

@Mumof2NDers a lot of people tell me they have kitchen envy! It is a long narrow room. My priorities were:
To maximise the light, which I did by ensuring the high cupboards are exactly the same light colour as the paint on the walls and by having a light coloured worktop
To have as much usable storage as possible, which I did by having one long wall with floor to ceiling cupboards and by having all the bottom storage as drawers
To minimise the opportunities for mess (I am naturally messy) by ensuring there is enough storage space and by not having any space on top of the high cupboards.
It cost a LOT of money, even though we economised in every way that didn't compromise our priorities (I wanted a yellower cream and a greener green but would have had to have them made to order). It does make me very very happy!

MyChristmasUsername · 22/12/2023 14:19

Selling your home and having the pics in Rightmove is totally different. It’s more on here, if there were ever a data leak then it’s pictures of your home plus anything else you’ve shared on here including all your personal info in your profile that you signed up with, so email and password DOB gender etc. then whatever else you have shared in threads so possibly the size of your family, the area you live in, your medical issues. I just think it’s wise to be careful.

I see your dog enjoys a dig on the rug as much as mine does 😂

DilemmaDelilah · 22/12/2023 14:20

And we don't have any money left now..... Just in case anyone is thinking of burglarising us! It all went into the kitchen 😁

Ormside · 22/12/2023 14:23

I'm a chef. The thought of books in a kitchen (even if they are cookery books), puts my teeth on edge. They collect dust and grease. That kitchen could so easily be transformed.
I'm fortunate that although my kitchen is fairly small, I have separate dining and utility rooms. I keep it minimalist with a lot of stainless steel. It's always guest ready. With my background, I'd be horrified if someone came round and it wasn't immaculate.

Mrgrinch · 22/12/2023 14:24

Honestly my home is always spotless.

Why are you trying to make yourself feel better about having a messy home by belittling people who keep theirs clean?

How would you transform it? Not being snarky, hoping for tips!

My home isn't Insta-staged, ever, but it is usually tidy and visitor ready.

We've got that same kitchen trolley thing, I love it!

She does! She’s in a wee huff just now as my son has his pals over and they are being very noisy

OP is probably well intentioned so not wanting to shame them for the post. But please everyone stop sharing the inside of your houses on the internet. Seriously not safe. No matter how anonymous you think this might be, you can never be sure what happens to data in the future. Once it’s out there it’s there forever.

Totally agree. Once my aunty's neighbour's friend posted an anonymous photograph of her kitchen worktops on a chat website and... Eh, oh yeah absolutely nothing happened at all.

Well… the kitchen will be getting transformed in the new year… we couldn’t have afforded it any sooner unfortunately.: house is a doer upper. Where do you keep your cookery books in your house?

Being clean and messy are different things though aren't they?

I still don't get what someone is going to with the knowledge of how my living room looks, that they could equally gain if they walked up my drive and looked through the window

Paul2023 · 22/12/2023 14:34

Posting photos of your lounge / kitchen is hardly a security risk. My house along with probably millions is available to view
online now and we brought our 6 years ago..
Sold properties are still archived online for years , with photos, from websites such as zoopla .

This includes the full address. No one on here is giving their actual real names or addresses.

Northsideoftheriver · 22/12/2023 14:34

See now, you're asking this on a Friday, which is my worst day for organisation. A photo now would show ironing piles on every couch even the footstool. It's quite an impressive snap shot of my dysfunctional existence.

Good for you!!

im in no way belittling anyone for keeping their homes clean. Mine is messy but fairly cleanish (well, a cleaner comes round every week and does it)

I’m really sorry about all of the mess, but you know what it gets like at this time of year.

😅

ThreeTreeHill · 22/12/2023 14:38

I'm just imagining someone stealing my identity or something and they've got my name, DOB, gender, medical history, number of children etc. (Because I'm apparently happy to post all that personal info but not how my kitchen looks), but they are unsuccessful until they find the vital bit of info that I keep the Cereal on top of the fridge 😆

StolenCookie · 22/12/2023 14:41

Laughing at the paranoid poster who thinks something dreadful will happen with this ‘data’ in the future.

irisgg7 · 22/12/2023 14:41

Good to see you are renovating OP, I was itching to paint those tiles!! 😂 Would transform the space.

Who tiles to the ceiling in a kitchen ??

I have no idea who's cat that is 😂 my cat is lying beside me.

Can't quite tell if you're being tongue-in-cheek here? (If you aren't, then 🙄.)
