Fed up with the Instagram showing perfect homes, when the real world is much messier..: so show me your normal homes… here’s my messy (and a bit dated) kitchen

@IfWhenWhyWhat

by posting this picture, you have revealed to the whole internet that you have been to Florence, and probably enjoyed it! ( 🙀).

Im too knackered to post a picture of my kitchen, as I have been helping my neighbour with her garden and I am now upstairs. So here is a picture of what I can see from my prostrate position on my bed

Ours is the typical new built kitchen. Looks ok, but everything is just so boringly grey

I’m really sorry about all of the mess, but you know what it gets like at this time of year.

Did you get your chairs from B&M? I've got the same ones...

DIYandEatCake · 22/12/2023 15:01

I can’t post a picture in case someone I know recognises it - I like being anonymous on here! But we have a tiny galley kitchen, and the worktop on one side is piled high with Christmas snacks (we have family staying and have stocked up), to the point that every so often there’s a landslide. The lounge is pretty tidy and decorated nicely for Christmas, but the utility room is stuffed so full of junk (Christmas decoration boxes, the hoover, more food, pet food boxes, etc etc) that there’s barely room to open the washing machine door. My kids’ rooms look like a bomb’s exploded in a Lego shop and the bathroom is clean but a bit cluttered (no storage space and too many shower gel bottles etc). I envy those with beautiful, tidy homes, but evidently not enough to get my arse in gear and sort out our clutter.

annoyedatlandlord · 22/12/2023 15:05

Don’t be silly the inside of people’s homes is all over Rightmove with a street name too.

what do you think a nefarious power could do with images of the inside of someone’s house?

Thighdentitycrisis · 22/12/2023 15:08

@DilemmaDelilah
i love your kitchen? Do you mind sharing where it’s from

Showmethesunny · 22/12/2023 15:08

@Bluesprinkles12 Jesus, I thought that was in black and white until I saw the sweets. Get some colour or plants in there pronto or you’ll get depressed.

MrsMiagi · 22/12/2023 15:11

I adore your boringly grey kitchen. But I have always loved grey (before it became a mrs hinch thing lol).

irisgg7 · 22/12/2023 15:11

@Bluesprinkles12 Sorry but your kitchen makes my heart ache. Why would anyone do that? It's far too grey. Oh my god you need a thread to add some character to it. You need plants, some natural wood cutting boards, a colour on the walls. I hate grey, it's not good with English grey skies. 😢

Forthisthreadonly123 · 22/12/2023 15:11

Mainly a tree pic taken from earlier today!

Did you design this or it came with a new home? It is rather depressing colour wise.

greasypolemonkeyman · 22/12/2023 15:13

I spent yesterday hanging a few pictures . My house is definitely not instaworthy, it's a riot of colour and charity shop treasure.

Bluesprinkles12 · 22/12/2023 15:13

@OnionRings82 It’s a rented flat so unfortunately can’t really paint or do much of substance to it at the moment

I love your cookbook shelves!

billycat321 · 22/12/2023 15:14

Brought our kitchen home from MFI in 1985 on two roof racks. One unit fell off the wall last year so had a new kitchen fitted. Used some of the old units to make a shoe rack and a storage cupboard in the garage.

LikeTheMorningDew · 22/12/2023 15:14

This is so going to only attract the showoffs

NewHouseNewMe · 22/12/2023 15:16

I love this thread and there have been no show offs yet.

On the other hand I’m not posting mine as it is Instagram ready 🤣

girlmeetsboy · 22/12/2023 15:16

right now my house needs hoovering from top to bottom and the bathroom needs cleaning (kitchen cupboards and worktops always kept clean) but i went food shopping today so the sodding cleaning can wait till tomorrow by Monday when people come for dinner it will be clean its always tidy just three cats who shed hair makes the carpets and floors mucky

irisgg7 · 22/12/2023 15:18

@greasypolemonkeyman I love vintage glass, the piece on the far right is lovely. I have lots of open vintage glass, when you put a tea light in it ❤️try some tea lights behind them, the glow is beautiful.

JustStopIroning · 22/12/2023 15:19

Who's got piles of ironing? I've changed my username just for this thread.
Just stop it. Its life changing!
Hang things up or fold them. They're fine.
Good thread OP. I'm adding a picture of my floor tiles. Just because I love them!

Selling your home and having the pics in Rightmove is totally different. It’s more on here, if there were ever a data leak then it’s pictures of your home plus anything else you’ve shared on here including all your personal info in your profile that you signed up with, so email and password DOB gender etc. then whatever else you have shared in threads so possibly the size of your family, the area you live in, your medical issues. I just think it’s wise to be careful.

I agree. I often have to describe my kitchen as part of the security questions for my bank.

What? My bank has never asked me to describe my kitchen, how very odd.

irisgg7 · 22/12/2023 15:22

@girlmeetsboy you have lots of NHS letters in your photo...

Why is your fridge int he middle of the room?

I think they’re being sarky. My point still stands though. If I’m mistaken I apologise.
