To think toast is one of life's greatest pleasures?

Lighthearted thread.

Couldn't decide what to have for tea, so I settled on toast. Fresh white loaf with loads of proper butter on with a cup of tea. Simple but absolute heaven. Perfect combination.

DH couldn't care less about toast and rarely eats it Grin

AIBU? What's your little pleasure?

You’re absolutely correct. Even better if it’s made by someone else 👏🏼

Auntieobem · 27/11/2023 19:58

Yanbu.

Toast is the best.

Nothing beats hot buttered toast

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/11/2023 20:00

It’s the dog’s bollocks.

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/11/2023 20:01

You are very right indeed. It’s the foundation for many other delights as well as being something wonderful in itself - beans on toast, cheese on toast, mushrooms on toast, eggs on toast. I’ve never written the word so many times.

The best thing wasn’t sliced bread. It was the toasting fork.

I actually bought my mum a toasting fork last Christmas. I settle for a toaster as no fire.

The question is, do you like it light or dark? Somewhere between 3/4 is my preference!

4

Or wholemeal with marmite

MatildaTheCat · 27/11/2023 20:02

Love it with marmite or marmalade but my dream food is very well done toast with butter and crunchy peanut butter. Food of the gods.

I cannot have peanut butter in the house. I can eat it straight from the jar while the toast is toasting. I’m not to be trusted 🙄🤣

flowerygloves · 27/11/2023 20:02

Someone told me it was carcinogenic but they might have just meant if it was burnt

SophieJo · 27/11/2023 20:03

Just putting iPad down to go and make some!

LemonLimeDivine · 27/11/2023 20:03

Yes. Fresh white loaf. Real butter. Hot cup of tea.
Number 3 or 4 on that chart for me @user6776

user6776 · 27/11/2023 20:03

I'm not a fan of jam or marmalades on my toast. Occasionally I will have Dairylea cheese spread on it though which is absolutely delicious

Please tell me you have tried marmite WITH peanut butter. It's like what I imagine crack to be

LemonLimeDivine · 27/11/2023 20:05

Marmite with peanut butter?! Sounds like it could be interesting. 🧐 Going to have to try that.

Getabloominmoveon · 27/11/2023 20:06

YANBU - toast is comforting, great with savoury and with sweet, the perfect side, and full of variety depending on your bread choice.
Sadly other nations have yet to discover the true power of toast. In the Netherlands it’s for when you’re sick or in a toasty machine, in Spain it’s rubbed with garlic and tomatoes and in Italy gets fried in a pan and open-topped with tomatoes.

All very delicious, but not performing the same role as our versatile toast. Mainly because (IMO) they don’t worship butter as we do. Their loss.

user6776 · 27/11/2023 20:07

Also it has to be Warburtons Thick toastie loaf

This is delicious, but don't buy the premixed marmite flavored peanut butter that's evil

IamEarthymama · 27/11/2023 20:07

I was actually eating two pieces of toast with Bonne Maman bitter orange marmalade when I saw this thread.☺️
DW is working late and I have made celery soup for supper when she gets in. I do struggle eating what I have just cooked so I knew that toast was exactly right.
Sadly I can’t eat gluten so it was GF bread, not the lovely loaves you are all eating. 😔
However I do like Schar bread even though it is disgracefully expensive, so I really enjoyed my little pre-supper snack.

@Getabloominmoveon I also find bread doesn't taste the same abroad either. Not sure why!

Agreed. It's not good enough. You can't get the ratio right. I think it's cut with something.

Auntieobem · 27/11/2023 20:08

6 is about perfect. I've recently discovered that I love cold buttered toast too.
