Lighthearted thread.

Couldn't decide what to have for tea, so I settled on toast. Fresh white loaf with loads of proper butter on with a cup of tea. Simple but absolute heaven. Perfect combination.

DH couldn't care less about toast and rarely eats it Grin

AIBU? What's your little pleasure?

@CurlyhairedAssassin absolutely with you there. I remember going in for a check up third trimester (when baby's heart beat needs checking) and the nurse brought me toast with jam and butter on. It was so needed. I didn't ask, she just offered, what a lovely lady she was.

I used to bake bread myself and make toast with it and put jam and butter on. Best thing ever.

I can happily eat 9. Prefer a 7.

Love it with marmite or marmalade but my dream food is very well done toast with butter and crunchy peanut butter. Food of the gods.

I cannot have peanut butter in the house. I can eat it straight from the jar while the toast is toasting. I’m not to be trusted 🙄🤣

This may be dangerous for you to buy but have you tried marmite peanut butter? https://www.marmite.co.uk/products.html
My toast has to be 7/8 . I buy a loaf of tescos seeded bread every week , it never gets made into sandwiches.

Do you all have the same thing on each round of toast ?
Sometimes I will have marmite on one , jam on another or marmite pnb.
Or cheese on one and beans / mushrooms/ tinned tomatoes on the other (s)

3/4

As others have said, I had tea and toast after giving birth and it was the most incredible thing ever!

I try and limit my carbs and so rarely ever have toast now and reading this thread has made me realise what an idiot I’ve been.

Why am I denying myself something so tasty and simple!

I read a book recently about how England changed from being a country that heated it's homes with wood to one that used coal. It took about 60 years during the end of Elizabeth I into James I. One of the advantages was we had consistent, easy to manage, long lasting heat which lead to the industrial revolution and toast! It is so easy to cook on a coal fire

The question is, do you like it light or dark? Somewhere between 3/4 is my preference!

5/6
Seeded loaf
or rye sourdough.

Super yummy!

witchypaws · 27/11/2023 20:43

I always think a sandwich is better on toast too

Oooh yes. My favourite is chicken, lettuce, tomato and mayo!

Thanks guys, I’ve already had dinner but now I’ve sat down with two slices of M&S golden wholemeal toast with loads of salted butter and a lovely cup of tea 🙄

Biznatch · 27/11/2023 20:51

Number 5, hot wholemeal granary with real butter, loads of marmite and an oatmilk cappuccino,... or 1 marmite, 1 marmalade and eat half of one then half of the other, sweet and salty.

Biznatch · 27/11/2023 20:53

Honestly it's the only food I really look forward to, 11hrs till breakfast...

Mojolostforever · 27/11/2023 20:56

Toast number 4 is best. With lots of butter, and even better with lime marmalade. Utter heaven on a plate.
Muffins slathered with butter come a close second (, without the marmalade).

KnittedCardi · 27/11/2023 20:56

Nine if this brown stuff, it has to be thick sliced white farmhouse, somewhere between 3 and 4 on the chart. Any more than that and it is carbon!

Lashings of butter dripping on to the plate.

If super indulgent, a smear of honey, or for ultimate comfort, butter AND Nutella.

KnittedCardi · 27/11/2023 20:56

*None..... Obviously

Projectme · 27/11/2023 20:59

Sourdough with salted butter. But the toast has to cool slightly so that you get patches of yet to melt butter as well as the melted patches.
3/4 on the scale of toastiness.
And I often put a scrape of marmite topped by a slice of gouda or jarlsberg cheese. Heaven!!!

CarrotCake01 · 27/11/2023 20:59

YANBU

Toast is 👌🏻

A thick, white slice, lightly toasted with a little bit of marge? Yes please!

Fannyfiggs · 27/11/2023 21:00

No. 4

Warburtons farmhouse loaf, toasted with lashings of Lurpak.

Food of fucking kings!

Drhow · 27/11/2023 21:00

YANBU, I absolutely love toast. I love butter and jam on toast and butter and honey.

Oceancreature · 27/11/2023 21:03

Toast is lovely. Number 4-6 all fine for me. Proper salted butter and occasionally marmalade. Yum!

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 27/11/2023 21:04

I love toast more than anything else in the world. My ultimate toast and spread combo is tiger bread, Philadelphia, Vegemite. Perfection.

bellac11 · 27/11/2023 21:05

I do miss toast. I gave up bread (mostly) some years ago, doesnt get on with me. But back in the day, Id think 'I'll have a slice of toast, butter and lime marmalade'. That turned into another, this time perhaps with orange marmalade. But then I have to offset that with savoury, so that would then turn into a couple of slices with butter and marmite. LOTS of butter. Then need to have some with peanut butter. And butter of course.

Another favourite of mine was hot buttered toast (LOTS of butter) with cold cottage cheese (full fat). Dont knock it till you've tried it.

If the butter isnt running down your chin with toast, you havent put enough on.

Houseplanter · 27/11/2023 21:06

I have often wondered who invented toast.

Clingfilm · 27/11/2023 21:09

I eat SO much toast with butter, at least a slice every day, it's my go to 'meal'.
I like shade 2/3, let it cool a bit then butter, slice and eat a third at a time, like fat soldiers so the butter doesn't fully melt.

Sourdough toast is next level (not for my gums though 😬)

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 27/11/2023 21:09

Between 4 and 5 is perfect for me.

I was unwell after giving birth so never got my toast. DH had it. Bastard Grin

Off to add lime marmalade to the shopping list!

2catsandhappy · 27/11/2023 21:10

No.9 seeded wholemeal with lashings of real butter, a wee scrape of Marmite and halved cherry tomatoes. Top with more buttered toast. Delicious.
