To think toast is one of life's greatest pleasures?

Lighthearted thread.

Couldn't decide what to have for tea, so I settled on toast. Fresh white loaf with loads of proper butter on with a cup of tea. Simple but absolute heaven. Perfect combination.

DH couldn't care less about toast and rarely eats it Grin

AIBU? What's your little pleasure?

Toast is incredible. As are lightly toasted bagels.

Oh bagels. Ive just remembered another terrible thing I used to eat loads of. So toasted M&S sesame seed bagel, lots of butter (LOTS) and then M&S seafood sandwich filling slathered over that.

Its a real mystery to me how I managed to be so overweight!

Iateallllllthepies · 27/11/2023 21:11

Oh God, I miss toast. I miss it so much. Soft, white bread.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease 2 years ago. What I wouldn’t give to travel back in time to eat toast.

Gluten free bread isn’t the same. I’ve tried them all, believe me. Every brand, even baked it myself. It’s not the same.

Bloody love toast and all things toasted! Tea this Thursday is a halloumi, honey and harrisa toasty.
Off to look at toasting forks as well, feel we may need one of these in our lives!

Iateallllllthepies · 27/11/2023 21:12

And bagels and crumpets 😭😭😭 Gluten free crumpets are a crime against humanity.

Each of those options can also be improved by adding cheese. Even to honey on toast.

@MyDogSmellsTerrible I used to work for Betty's and their toast was immense we could have as much as we wanted when working! Their marmalades were pretty good too, must go and stock up for Christmas.

Spartak · 27/11/2023 21:15

It's a no from me.

I'll eat almost anything, but don't like toast or tea!

MrsArcher23 · 27/11/2023 21:15

Toast is life. I'm currently working on shifting my Covid two stone by following a low carb regime. I don't miss rice, pasta or even potatoes but it's the dream of a Sunday breakfast of toast, butter and marmalade that keeps me going.

JaneIves · 27/11/2023 21:18

Perfect toast would be 6, with president butter.

I'm partial to a 9, left to go cold then slathered with butter.

MyDogSmellsTerrible · 27/11/2023 21:19

Wonder if they’re hiring?! 🤔

The butter is divine. It’s a bit salty, but just the right amount. I’m meeting a friend there on Friday - will definitely be having some toast!

Have you thought about therapy?

Anyone who's been in labour for 36 hours will know what a heavenly feeling it is to get some toast and a cup of tea an hour or so after you've given birth. A cuddle on a plate.

It is the number 1 most memorable and comforting meal ever.
My daughter is a midwife and there is a toast making skills test before qualification!!!

Marmite with peanut butter?! Sounds like it could be interesting. 🧐 Going to have to try that.

Try marmite and banana on toast too 😊

Pinkandgreentrousers · 27/11/2023 21:26

Toast is my favourite food

Sunsept · 27/11/2023 21:27

Yep. The perfect meal replacement. I had it tonight for my tea (homemade bread with butter and marmite) - with a cup of tea!

Blossomingx · 27/11/2023 21:31

I don't eat toast often but the optimum is a 4 or 5, although I'll accept anything from 3-6 :-D

I like when the margarine is fully melted, but there's a small, thick still-melting blob on the toast!

Toppings I like, varies according to my mood:
beans
Cheese
Peanut butter
Raspberry, pineapple or strawberry jam
Honey
Lemon curd
Eggs (scrambled or fried), with avocado on if I have it

WickedSerious · 27/11/2023 21:34

Toast is DP's signature dish.

CheerfulBunny · 27/11/2023 21:34

My lovely old Dad used to have a bit of toast for his supper at night but it would be black as coal 😄Crumpets were the same, he only liked them utterly burnt to a crisp. I'm not quite that bad but I do like things properly toasted, otherwise it's just hot bread and not toast, right??

QuestionableMouse · 27/11/2023 21:35

Proper toast (and almond croissants) are the only things I've really missed since going gluten free.

The gluten free bread just isn't the same 😔

Floofydawg · 27/11/2023 21:39

I want toast now 🙁

cozycat1 · 27/11/2023 21:40

Yes toast is absolutely one of life's great pleasures. Tea for me tonight was 1/2 large slice of sourdough toast spread with Utterly Butterly AND drizzled with good slug of with olive oil topped with 2 fried eggs( made myself eat some veg too), followed by the other half with butter and strawberry jam( then made myself eat some fruit). See it can be a balanced meal!!

SoupDragon · 27/11/2023 21:42

Coming back into the house when one of the DC has made toast is almost as good as toast itself. The smell is so homely and comforting!

wensleywhale · 27/11/2023 21:42

user6776 · 27/11/2023 20:01

The question is, do you like it light or dark? Somewhere between 3/4 is my preference!

5!
