Lighthearted thread.

Couldn't decide what to have for tea, so I settled on toast. Fresh white loaf with loads of proper butter on with a cup of tea. Simple but absolute heaven. Perfect combination.

DH couldn't care less about toast and rarely eats it Grin

AIBU? What's your little pleasure?

Yes, toast is the staff of life.

I like it at 5 or 6 in your photo.

1992H · 27/11/2023 20:11

4/5 on those pictures. Lathered with proper butter. Occasionally with a decent raspberry jam but usually just salted butter. Always white bread. The thicker the better.
fortunately the kids are just as partial to a lazy toast supper as I am. Especially in the winter done on the fire

YANBU - toast is comforting, great with savoury and with sweet, the perfect side, and full of variety depending on your bread choice.
Sadly other nations have yet to discover the true power of toast. In the Netherlands it’s for when you’re sick or in a toasty machine, in Spain it’s rubbed with garlic and tomatoes and in Italy gets fried in a pan and open-topped with tomatoes.

All very delicious, but not performing the same role as our versatile toast. Mainly because (IMO) they don’t worship butter as we do. Their loss.

My nephews grew up in Germany and one of their greatest pleasures when visiting us in England is buttered toast made with white plastic sliced bread.

mamaduckbone · 27/11/2023 20:16

...and yes, of course toast is the food of the gods. 3 on the picture for me please.

  • white with just butter or butter and marmite
  • seedy / granary toast with butter and honey or marmalade
QuitMoaning · 27/11/2023 20:17

I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes so no sugar (or carbs) for me.

I am coping fine, surprisingly, with no chocolate, sweets, fruit, cereal, potatoes, pasta etc but I would happily sell my soul for some white toast dripping with butter and I don’t care which topping, preferably all of them.

user6776 · 27/11/2023 20:18

I've tried Marmite and couldn't stand it, can't imagine it being nice either on toast 😷

Toast is incredible. As are lightly toasted bagels.

YANBU.

I have toast with butter for lunch on weekdays, because TOAST.

Aw, they were on an old Totp last Friday (bbc4). So daft it's easy to believe they genuinely love
TOAST!
You know it's Paul Young?

Milknosugarta · 27/11/2023 20:21

6 or 7 on the colour chart for me. Today I had it for lunch with butter and blueberry jam and a big mug of coffee.
I make my own bread.

RaininSummer · 27/11/2023 20:22

Has to be granary or seeded bread and about number 7 for max crispiness. Buttered when cold with orange whisky marmalade. Had this for tea last night as I have a nasty virus and it's all I fancied

I've tried Marmite and couldn't stand it, can't imagine it being nice either on toast 😷

This is the instruction with which I converted Danes who hitherto believed Marmite was a nasty English thing: A THICK layer of butter followed by a SCRAPING of Marmite.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/11/2023 20:24

Feels like Talkie Toaster is trolling this thread. 😆

That's a good gateway into it. I had to wean myself onto the supermarket own brand substitute as my habit was out of control.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/11/2023 20:25

Anyone who's been in labour for 36 hours will know what a heavenly feeling it is to get some toast and a cup of tea an hour or so after you've given birth. A cuddle on a plate.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/11/2023 20:26

My last meal will be hot buttered toast, a cuppy egg and a mug of tea. Toast always makes things feel better.

ItsAStupidQuestion · 27/11/2023 20:26

YANBU.

TOAST IS LIFE.

The more butter the better.

5/6 on the chart for me.

FrostyFlo · 27/11/2023 20:26

I'd be a 6 .

Yes to hot buttered toast. I'm convinced it should be on prescription when unwell.

Fulshaw · 27/11/2023 20:28

They gave me tea and toast about an hour after giving birth. It was the perfect thing.

StaunchMomma · 27/11/2023 20:29

100%

White toast, lots of butter, sprinkle of sea salt and a cup of sweet tea - pure comfort and joy.

RedRosie · 27/11/2023 20:29

Lovely, lovely toast. Thick wholemeal, granary or sourdough - with lashings of proper butter.

Food. Of. The. Gods.

Plankingplanks · 27/11/2023 20:29

My new favourite is Tesco Olive and Rosemary bread toasted with thick lashings of salted butter. It's heaven.

WorriedMillie · 27/11/2023 20:30

Tiger loaf toast with sea salt butter is the best!

MyDogSmellsTerrible · 27/11/2023 20:31

Anybody in Yorkshire who's tried Betty's toast will agree it's the best toast in the whole wide world.

It's utterly delicious and now I'm really hungry thinking about it 🍞

backtowinter · 27/11/2023 20:32

4 or 5 for me

Toast is why I love a proper High Tea
