Sick of hairdressers not getting me the colour I want?

I want to go silver. I show them the exact colour I want and I alway end up with ash blonde mixed with warm blonde pieces. I hate it.

I’ve had six sessions already and probably paid near £1K now and still nothing.

This is currently my colour and it’s definitely not silver.

It’s a nice colour though. Can you post a picture of what you do want?

Hipnotised · 26/11/2023 15:06

Get it cut how you like it and then get a box dye the right colour?

Aquamarine1029 · 26/11/2023 15:09

Unless it's natural, silver hair looks dreadful. It's just flat and gray.

This exactly

ilovesooty · 26/11/2023 15:11

Why are you paying for results you aren't happy with?

hollyhockss · 26/11/2023 15:11

I wanted something like this (sorry it won’t let me post the exact photo as it keeps saying it’s too big)

My hair is silver. It’s taken me 64 years to get it this colour, and doesn’t cost me a penny!!!

Aquamarine1029 · 26/11/2023 15:13

Sorry, but even in that picture, that person's hair looks absolutely horrendous. You can see the how damaged and flat it is, and that's what happens when you bleach your hair to such an extent as to go "silver."

Your hair currently looks beautiful. I wouldn't do another thing to it.

wited · 26/11/2023 15:17

Get a silver box kit. Easy and will work a treat.

Aquamarine1029 · 26/11/2023 15:18

Fucking hell, please don't do this. Instant regret in a box.

KitchenSinkLlama · 26/11/2023 15:19

This will need multiple full bleaching sessions and will kill your hair. It still is unlikely to be silver.
Get a wig if you want to have that colour.

Gnomegnomegnome · 26/11/2023 15:19

Your hair is much nicer than what you want.

From experience though if you dye your hair blue it fades quite quickly to a mucky grey.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 26/11/2023 15:21

What's your natural colour op? I've only seen that silver white colour achieved on already very fair hair.

justalittlesnoel · 26/11/2023 15:24

Are you naturally brunette? It takes a lot of work to get it to that purpley white colour you've put a photo of and a lot of damage if you do it too quickly. I'd say depending on the colour you started at 6 sessions to get as light as you are might be right - I was your colour after about 6/7 sessions and I'm a brunette.

Next time perhaps ask for a stronger purple toner? In the photo you've put you can see the purple colour in the hair.

IsadoraQuagmire · 26/11/2023 15:25

My hair's naturally light blonde and I've got a similar colour to the silver in the photo before, just by leaving purple conditioner on for a while. I don't think yours is currently lightened enough to go that colour? But your colour is really nice (though that's no consolation when it's not what you want, I know!)

HardcoreLadyType · 26/11/2023 15:26

I know exactly what you mean.

I wanted to enhance my naturally greying hair with a few dramatic silver streaks. I just think my hair is too warm a colour to bleach out the the level of blond it would need to be to take on the silver colour toner.

I tried various hairdressers, and none could do it. I also used a conditioner with a silver toner (Davines Alchemic Silver) which does help a bit. (They also do a shampoo, but I like to use a bar shampoo.)

Anyway, it is actually starting to look a bit how I want it, now, but that’s more the natural effects of aging!

(edited for spelling and punctuation!)

Eike · 26/11/2023 15:26

Doesn't really matter what everyone else thinks about silver hair if you want it OP.

They aren't lightening your hair enough, they are leaving far too much warmth in it, it needs to be lighter than you currently are in order to use a silver toner. Pearly ash toners often give quite a nice tone that isn't completely silver but more blonde silver and it doesn't need to damage your hair at all - depends on how well your hair takes bleach. My hairdresser did this for my hair once many years ago but they said I had thick strong hair, I didn't get any breakage or anything. You would need regular toners and purple shampoos to upkeep it

Because people like different things. Not sure why your opinion on the hair someone wants is relevant.

pictoosh · 26/11/2023 15:28

Well I think the ash blonde is meh but the silver looks cool. It's annoying when you can't get what you want.

Friedtofuandbeans · 26/11/2023 15:28

Oh but your hair now looks beautiful! I know it’s now what you’re after, but it’s absolutely lovely, I’d love hair like yours 😍

Eike · 26/11/2023 15:29

For reference, I'm natural dark dishwater blonde, so it might have been easier for me to lighten, I've always been able to go the colour I want in one session at a hairdresser. If you're darker, they might be being overly cautious.

hollyhockss · 26/11/2023 15:30

I don’t want to be a Kardashian and I appreciate Kim has extensions but she achieved the colour.

I don’t care about my colour not looking like a natural colour. I’ve had multiple sessions and I’ve been trying since August last year. Just pissed off that I’m still trying.

Do you use the purple shampoo and toner? If not, that will help. It is the only way my highlighted hair gets the silver tone through it.
