Sick of hairdressers not getting me the colour I want?

I want to go silver. I show them the exact colour I want and I alway end up with ash blonde mixed with warm blonde pieces. I hate it.

I’ve had six sessions already and probably paid near £1K now and still nothing.

This is currently my colour and it’s definitely not silver.

I don’t want to be a Kardashian and I appreciate Kim has extensions but she achieved the colour.

I don’t care about my colour not looking like a natural colour. I’ve had multiple sessions and I’ve been trying since August last year. Just pissed off that I’m still trying.

My hairdresser said it’s lights and it’s never that colour in real life. You need a purple toner over it. Mine is that colour but I had bright purple in it and it’s filled to that exact colour you posted. Maybe the answer is to have bright purple?

@hollyhockss I have gone from much more golden blonde than you to as light as you want in 1 session. So like your first photo, rather than the KK one. My hairdresser used Guy Tang products (look on youtube for his transformations of hair) she did take a section of my hair and tried it on that first to make sure it would take. I also have Olaplex when it is bleached up too.

I can't upload my own photos because it has all the data in them but this will give you an idea of what I went from, I colour matched my hair photo to something similar https://www.boots.com/john-frieda-precision-foam-colour-8n-medium-natural-blonde-130ml-10230780

Some hairdressers are very good at colour, mine is, she has 20 years experience and used to train other hairdressers. It is all about the bleach, colour and the toner. I would try a different salon and get them to strand test you with a section of hair that usually hides.

Go to this lady, she's a genius colourist - https://www.nicolaclarke.com/jessie (no I'm not her or her agent but I've used her for wild colours and she rocks)

No it hasn't. She wears wigs. As do the vast majority of celebs where you see their hair colour change almost weekly

It’s widely reported that she did bleach her hair.

My hair is silver. It’s taken me 64 years to get it this colour, and doesn’t cost me a penny!!!

haha - same (not quite 64). Sorry, OP, if you want silver you have to pay your dues

NotObligedToArgueWithStrangers · 26/11/2023 17:12

What is your natural colour? I think unless it's quite fair to begin with, sometimes it just isn't possible to get it white enough. Even if you could, you'd have to have the silver toner redone every other week as it goes a greenish colour very quickly.

hollyhockss · 26/11/2023 17:14

LolaSmiles · 26/11/2023 16:52

You've still got several levels of lightness to go before a silver will take. I'm not surprised they've not done it in one go. If it's taken multiple times to get that light then doing so much in one go would probably wreck your hair.

Once you've used that much bleach you're also going to need a dedicated toner and purple shampoo routine, which is also very drying.

I’ve never said I expect it in one go. I’m a good 7 maybe 8 sessions done now which is why I’m so fed up.

But that doesn’t matter.

I’ve already spent a fortune. Been through multiple bleaching sessions, I know how to look after hair.

Multiple bleaching sessions is the exact opposite of looking after hair.

It’s all about toning to achieve the silver colour, not multiple bleaching. You need to find a professional who specialises in colour corrections and toning. There’ll be someone out there who can achieve this for you. You just need to do your research.

RudsyFarmer · 26/11/2023 17:17

You possibly really damaging your hair in the pursuit of this colour. What hair colour are you naturally?

Mazuslongtoenail · 26/11/2023 17:18

I always ask for this colour. I NEVER get it.

tiggergoesbounce · 26/11/2023 17:19

It is annoying and disappointing coming out the hairdressers wanting quite a bright, light stand out colour and you come out feeling its dull and "meh".

Have they said how long "they" think it will take for the silver to take?

pinksheetss · 26/11/2023 17:20

Your current hair colour is gorgeous!!

The silver you posted doesn't look great at all

Yes, and it's also well known that she wrecked her hair by doing so.

It's your hair, you can do what you want, but your hair is going to suffer for it and I doubt you'll ever get the results you want.

Floralsofa · 26/11/2023 17:21

I think the important question is, what colour did you start off with?

witchypaws · 26/11/2023 17:22

Some usual info on her videos or if you're anywhere near her

When she did the Marilyn hair she did because it was in one go and super intense. I give my half time to recover and use products that work for my hair,

Your hair needs to be lifted to a level 10 and toned to your desired colour . It is a lot of upkeep though.

Hair doesn't "recover." Your hair strands are dead. Once they are damaged, they are damaged for good. Certain products can help a bit, but nothing repairs heavily damaged hair. Hair product companies try to convince us it's possible to turn back the clock on fried hair, but it's not.

WannabeMathematician · 26/11/2023 17:34

No advice but I like the silver colour.

ChishiyaBat · 26/11/2023 17:36

Indola colour mousse in silver is what you need, You can buy it onlinr in multiple places including amazon, Oh and a new hairdresser.
I'm an ex stylist and just this weekend i've turned my daughters virgin caramel blonde into a platinum and silver blonde. It took 2x 60min bleaching with blonde me powder&20vol liquid. That brought it up to the right level but it was still very warm due to her natural tones. I then used silver drops in conditioner followed by the mousse. There is still warmth but in another session in 6weeks time it should be the colour she wants. Silver is incredibly hard to achieve, but it should be achievable in 2-3 sessions not over a bloody year! You are being ripped off!

I wanted something like this (sorry it won’t let me post the exact photo as it keeps saying it’s too big)

Your current colour is better imo

Thatbloodyhedge · 26/11/2023 17:38

Weird thread...
How anyone would want to and have paid for drab flat dull hair is beyond me?
I love my shiny silvers

QueenofTerrasen · 26/11/2023 17:38

KK has bleached her hair, but it was never naturally the colour you want it. All the silver styles she's had, are wigs.

swapcicles · 26/11/2023 17:39

I went blonde a few years ago, then went pink and back to blonde.
Since lockdown though I've not dyed my hair, so much less faff!
The upkeep on unatural blonde hair is expensive and time consuming.
I'm lucky in that my natural hair has very few greys although I'm 45 and so I'm not tempted to dye any of it.
What colour are you naturally OP and would that colour look better as it would be in a lot better condition than if it's dyed/bleached etc.
I do understand the urge to have a particular colour though, it's why I went pink! 😂
