Dave Cameron is back in the cabinet…. desperate throw of the dice or inspired move to limit the inevitable defeat?

I'm glad to see him. I'm a long time Tory voter but of the centrist liberal variety, not the recent mess.

Another centerist liberal Tory here but I'd sooner see Corbyn in office than Dave back.

"The one positive is that Johnson must be absolutely seething."

Yes, brilliant.

I heard Johnson took himself off to Israel last week. Who knows what delusion he's labouring under. By the sound of it, he was ignored.

ohbaby24 · 13/11/2023 11:13

Completely strategic to appease the left.

Get rid of SB who isn't afraid to show her right wing colours and then bring in DC who would bleed labour red if you cut him in half whilst all the time trying to somehow, sneakily convince us the blood is blue.

I do wish these politicians had spines.

The man fucked a pigs head. He should be no where near the leadership of this country.

He really didn't, and even if he did, it's so far down the list of things I'd criticise members of this government for that I'd be dead before I got to reading it out.

oviedo · 13/11/2023 11:16

I think the same thing happened to Peter Mandelson

That doesn’t even compute for me in terms of ‘damaging things DC has done’.

I've been on MN too long because I was trying to work what dear chidlren could possibly have done that's worse than that!

BloodyHellKen · 13/11/2023 11:18

TBH I don't mind David Cameron. He's quite liberal and a centrist which is the sort of conservative I prefer 😁

Yes, he was made a Lord so he could be in the cabinet as First Secretary of State (which isn't always a position that's filled, there currently isn't one).

FFS David Cameron has so much to answer for and they bring him back?

verdantverdure · 13/11/2023 11:19

350 Tory MPs and none of them can be trusted in the Foreign Office?

Hbh17 · 13/11/2023 11:20

The referendum was obviously a huge mistake but, otherwise, he was a good PM. He has status and experience, which will serve him well in the FCO. He's moderate, centrist and socially liberal - all good. It does now feel like a grown up is back in the room.

He was a dreadful PM. Did you miss the devastation caused by austerity?

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 13/11/2023 11:22

I've just woken up after a 7 year sleep and instead of finding Bobby Ewing in the shower I get David Cameron in the cabinet office.

You mean fucked a pigs head and set the wheels in motion for a massive fucking of the country too. The pigs head is a metaphor for the UK.

I bet he is only arounds to make money since taxpayers money is a free for all for the already very wealthy. He's jumping on the gravy train before it grinds to a halt.

I can't honestly say there is a Tory left who I trust. The only decent ones were Rory Stewart and those that left during the Brexit shitshow during May's reign. There's nobody decent left, just the dregs of the party.

Araminta1003 · 13/11/2023 11:22

If the Tories kick out all the far right, then Labour and Starmer will have no choice but to get rid of the far left and the antisemitic elements too. If they get all the extremists out on both sides, that can only be a good thing. I frankly do not care anymore who gets into power as long as no crazies are left over in their party who hold the whole country to ransom. I just want the very far right out and then the very far left, in that order.
So I assume that is what Sunak is now playing at.

verdantverdure · 13/11/2023 11:19

To be fair not many of them would want it. Four junior ministers have resigned this morning.

DdraigGoch · 13/11/2023 11:23

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 13/11/2023 10:28

He's being made a life peer so will sit in the House of Lords.

It is allowed, I think thatcher did it as well with someone in her cabinet. But in my (inexpert) opinion, it should be allowed. He won't be answerable in the House of Commons

It's also how Gordon Brown brought Peter Mandelson back into the government after his stint as a European Commissioner.

Araminta1003 · 13/11/2023 11:23

Next, Starmer will bring Blair back?!

Vivolvolo · 13/11/2023 11:23

The man who gambled on Brexit and opened the doors to what we have now. And whose austerity measures harmed so many. Man’s shameless.

I totally agree

SerendipityJane · 13/11/2023 11:24

And that is the final nail in the Brexit heart. It's architect and arch remainer as foreign secretary.

Pigeon31 · 13/11/2023 11:24

It does feel as though after all that upheaval in the last 7 years, nothing has really changed. What was Brexit even for?

ChocoChocoLatte · 13/11/2023 11:25

I literally just can't. The man responsible for one of the biggest political cluster fucks of our time and he's waltzing back in. I feel like I'm stuck in a bad dream.

Exasperatednow · 13/11/2023 11:25

Unelected PM (not even by his own party) and unelected foreign secretary ...

And cameron won't be able to be questioned in house on foreign policy...

Hbh17 · 13/11/2023 11:25

There wasn't "devastation", he brought in sensible economic policy after many years of profligacy.
