Dave Cameron is back in the cabinet…. desperate throw of the dice or inspired move to limit the inevitable defeat?

I'm on the left and hold Cameron pretty much fully responsible for Brexit, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually glad he's back simply because he might bring some moderation.

Yes I agree

but I don’t just hold Cameron responsible every MP that voted to support the Referendum taking place without full debate is responsible

All we’re utterly careless and irresponsible

I'm glad to see him. I'm a long time Tory voter but of the centrist liberal variety, not the recent mess.

I'm a traditional Labour voter, but couldn't bear to vote for them anymore. Would you struggle voting sunak even though it's your party as I struggle with mine?
I find it quite sad, no matter which side you're on, as the public in general, we're voiceless these days. We may have different opinions on what is important to us, (not just you & I), but I feel like nobody really is winning these days. They're all an embarrassment who are actively ignoring what we need addressing.
It's a shame 😔

Hmmph · 13/11/2023 10:51

Even more voiceless when unelected members of the public can be given a job as home secretary.

Democracy??!

Paul2023 · 13/11/2023 10:52

Why was Cameron made a Lord though? I could say the same for many ex MPs but why?

He no longer an MP. I didn’t think he could be in the cabinet as a non MP?

Surely this is going backwards not forwards? He ran as soon as the leave vote won.

AzureBlue99 · 13/11/2023 10:53

I wish Rishi would resign. He is out of his depth.

Edited

He's not currently a lord. He's being made a Lord solely so he can hold this position

Paul2023 · 13/11/2023 10:59

Why does Cameron even want the job ? War in Ukraine? War in Gaza?…

He could get another job for much less stress.

Being made a life peer in return for a few months work before the next election.

UrsulaBelle · 13/11/2023 11:03

Ex PMs do usually get made life peers eventually. eg Baroness Thatcher

Gordon Brown and John Major haven’t as yet

MaggieFS · 13/11/2023 11:06

They do normally, but there's been a bit of a hold up of late, because no one wants to be the PM who dares make Blair a lord after the Iraq scandal.

Cameron has just skipped the queue!

EatYourVegetables · 13/11/2023 11:07

FUUUUUUCK!!!

Who’s next - BJ?

Paul2023 · 13/11/2023 11:08

So Cameron will be a life peer with all those perks for life ? Turn up at the House of Lords and get paid ? Hundred of pounds a day ?

Channellingsophistication · 13/11/2023 11:08

Desperate measures - I always thought DC was the worst Prime Minister ever but no longer with Boris and Liz who can fight that one out.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 13/11/2023 11:08

Boris for Culture Secretary?

piscofrisco · 13/11/2023 11:09

Well hang on:if you can be made a Lord or Lady just like that and the be given high office-where do I apply to be the minister for social care? I've been a social worker for 23 years and I think I'm ready for the post!

hideoushideoushideous · 13/11/2023 11:09

Well I can only hope it's the start of the party swinging back to a more moderate ground.

Cameron did not orchestrate Brexit. He was a staunch remainer. He was forced into it by Farage and years of pressure from UKIP and the ERG element. I don't think he thought for one second people would be stupid enough to actually vote Brexit - that was his mistake.

It was FARAGE who resigned the day after the Brexit vote. Imagine spending a lifetime campaigning for something - then you achieve it, but rather than showing the way in the wondrous 'sovereignty', what did you do? Bugger off. The man is shameless.

Cameron was 100% clear that he would not continue his PM role in a Brexit Britain as he had obviously campaigned against this!

pollyhemlock · 13/11/2023 11:09

The one positive is that Johnson must be absolutely seething.

Paul2023 · 13/11/2023 11:09

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sunak literally went through his entire phone book looking for a replacement.

GoingOffOnATangent · 13/11/2023 11:09

Locutus2000 · 13/11/2023 10:14

The man who started the current shitshow rewarded with a peerage and top government job.

This country is a banana republic at this point.

Sums it up for me 😠

JustEatTheOneInTheBallPit · 13/11/2023 11:10

David Cameron: Awarded life peerage by an unelected prime minister, so that he can walk into one of the most important jobs in government office and make decisions about our lives.

…. But at least we’re not still being ruled by those “undemocratic bureaucrats” in Brussels, eh?

BIossomtoes · 13/11/2023 11:10

Paul2023 · 13/11/2023 11:08

So Cameron will be a life peer with all those perks for life ? Turn up at the House of Lords and get paid ? Hundred of pounds a day ?

Just like numerous other senior politicians. Including Howard who would also have gone to war with Iraq had he been in power at the time.

Paul2023 · 13/11/2023 11:10

Didn’t Cameron say he no longer wanted to serve in Parliament after the Brexit vote though ?

piscofrisco · 13/11/2023 11:11

They said Boris made that intern woman a lady didn't he-so nothing is surprising. Maybe she should be given a crack at a ministerial role?
