Dave Cameron is back in the cabinet…. desperate throw of the dice or inspired move to limit the inevitable defeat?

They do normally, but there's been a bit of a hold up of late, because no one wants to be the PM who dares make Blair a lord after the Iraq scandal.

Cameron has just skipped the queue!

What about the mess he made in Libya?

Cruella out.
James Cleverly (pro Ukraine) Foreign Sec becomes Home Sec so harder to blame immigration, border force and the police for racism.
Chillaxed Dave as Foreign Sec, can't be grilled in the HoC. Abandons Ukraine (Boris and James C were drivers), does Donald Trump's peace deal - albeit in rather more than 24 hours - UK and US taxpayers save a fortune, inflation and interest rates drop, Tories and Democrats retain power in 2024.
As mad as Nad, or a possibility?

Mad. The UK does not have the power to make Ukraine give in to Russia while Biden is still in the White House and Poland Finland and the Baltics still have five influential votes in the EU.

General election - now!

General election - now!

Sadly, there is no use telling me.

They’ll be digging up the milk snatching bitch next!

They’ll be digging up the milk snatching bitch next!

I suspect she will be doing that herself, as she spins in her grave.

Cornettoninja · 13/11/2023 13:52

Well if we’re digging people up may as well prop up Churchill on the front bench too.

ShinyPebble32 · 13/11/2023 13:53

Who else clicked on this thinking it was about Dave the Millipede?

He was forced into the referendum by other people in the party - their support for him was probably conditional on it.

Being a PM should be about Leadership. He should have told the ERG where to get off, but he didn't. He is as much the architect of Brexit as anyone else. He didn't have to call a Referendum at the time he did. Harold Wilson was smart enough to call one when he knew he would win.

All of this, plus he could've insisted on a supermajority so we didn't end up leaving on the basis of a minority of the electorate. Cameron is very much at fault.

RustyBear · 13/11/2023 13:59

Flyhigher · 13/11/2023 12:45

He's disgusting and took us into Brexit. And he's not even elected. This govt is a disgrace. Imagine if Labour tried this on.

This country is a tin pot shambles. How can anyone vote Tory. How can anyone think this is ok. .

Labour has tried it on - in 2007 Gordon Brown took over from Tony Blair and created his “Government Of All The Talents”, which included several ‘experts’ from industry & professions, including an ex-chief of defence intelligence as a security minister, the former director-general of the CBI as a trade minister, a leading surgeon, with ideas for reforming the NHS, as a minister in the department of health and a financier as City minister to help negotiate a way through the banking crisis. They were collectively known as “the Goats” and all given peerages, though none of them were in the Cabinet.

ThreeLocusts · 13/11/2023 14:00

Someone said up thread that at least Dave will be good at the diplomacy part of the job.

I doubt it. How are European leaders supposed to take seriously the man who gambled away the UK's EU membership to safeguard Tory votes from UKIP (unsuccessfully)?

The Economist reported even before the referendum that he was seen as a lightweight abroad. No shit.

I lived in the UK for 15 years and wouldn't have minded staying, left after the referendum. I think of Dave as a man who tried to extinguish a kitchen fire by turning on the ceiling fan.

I'm glad today to have left. I'd be absolutely livid if I were confronted with this man as a member of my government.

OneTC · 13/11/2023 14:00

Imagine how far everything has fallen to be harking back to the good old days of Cameron 😅

KeyWorker · 13/11/2023 10:15

Good god. I didn’t even realise he was still an MP. Desperate times for Sunak.

The problem is he's not an MP, he now sits in the House of Lords. Apparently means different rules for him, can't be challenged on parliamentary floor etc. There was mention of it on the news earlier, sorry I forget what else they said.

Westfacing · 13/11/2023 14:03

I wonder when Cameron was mooted for return - before Braverman's article in The Times?

Can't believe it could all be done and dusted in three days.

It is surely going to grind Nadine's gears that it is that easy for a man to become a Lord, but yet she can't be a Lady.

This is a big Fuck You to a lot of the troublesome members of the Tory party. In and out of parliament.

It won't save the election - that's well and truly lost. But it will save the Tory party. and that is the most important thing.

Has Nad revealed who Dr No is? I can't keep up.

Goatymum · 13/11/2023 14:19

I blame him for Brexit so he can fuck right off. So Rishi can give pig fucker a peerage and he can get in the cabinet?
I can’t wait til Tories get voted out - I don’t care if it’s a tiny Labour majority, but they have to go now.

User135644 · 13/11/2023 14:19

Araminta1003 · 13/11/2023 11:47

“Perhaps Tories are "shy" because they don't want to take any personal responsibility for how badly the country has gone downhill under the party they voted for?”

There are a lot more floaters these days though aren’t there? Just judging by my friendship group a lot of past Labour or past Tory has gone Lib Dem in the last five years and definitely post the previous Labour stint, a few ended up voting Tory due to the Iraq war. And many people could not bring themselves to vote for Corbyn.

Not everyone is firmly Red or Blue.

The Tories were all for the Iraq war. Labour were at least split on it in parliament (Robin Cook high profile but a lot of back benchers voted against, including Corbyn).

They then made the same mistake in Libya.

Whatafustercluck · 13/11/2023 14:23

Yes, this is the Tories attempting to save the party from total oblivion for many years to come. Sadly, despite him presiding over Brexit and, ultimately, the demolition of the UK by pandering to his right wing (and failing to insist on a super majority) there are still thousands upon thousands of Tory faithful who will see his return to Government as a good thing. By the time the GE rolls around, large swathes of the electorate will have forgotten Johnson, Truss, Cruella and the whole shit show. All they will remember is the slightly-more-moderate face of the Tory Party and damage will be limited. Labour will be in power for one term, be unable to unpick the gargantuan mess the Tories will have left the country in, and will swiftly be voted out again by an electorate with collective amnesia and Stockholm Syndrome. Especially when a newly invigorated Tory Party tells everyone it is in fact Labour's fault that they've been unable to fix the gargantuan mess. It happens time and time again. Tories fuck the country over, over many years. Labour get into power. People blame Labour for not making enough progress quickly enough. Tories spin an elaborate re-hash of history. The cycle begins again. The Tories are actually really, really effective at re-writing history. It's why they've had the vast majority of years in power, over decades. Party first, country last. Always.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 13/11/2023 14:26

@Whatafustercluck an absolutely brilliant summary. And so very very sad.
