to think my DP is very rude to pour curry sauce over food

Tonight I cooked a curry for dinner from scratch. I asked DP to get some rice from the Chinese on his way home from work as mine always goes wrong. He came home with rice, curry sauce and vegetable spring rolls. Before he even tasted the curry I had cooked he poured the curry sauce all over his dinner. AIBU to be a bit pissed off about this? When I told him I was annoyed he seemed to think it was funny!

I love curry sauce, so I think YABU 😋

Cherryana · 10/11/2023 21:22

I have a slight addiction to curry sauce from the Chinese takeaway and so I don’t think you should waste any time being offended. It’s not personal- it’s the pull of the sauce.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 10/11/2023 21:23

No that's rude. It's like adding seasoning to food before you have tasted it.

pavillion1 · 10/11/2023 21:23

did you cook an Indian curry ?

Pupadupa · 10/11/2023 21:25

It's bizarre that you asked him to get chippy rice!

Just boiled rice??

Or like egg fried?

AhBiscuits · 10/11/2023 21:25

If you can cook a curry you can learn how to cook rice, it isn't difficult.
But I think YABU, people should be allowed to enjoy their dinner as they wish.

SiobhanSharpe · 10/11/2023 21:26

If you made an Indian (or Pakistani/Bangladeshi) style curry then i think Chinese type curry sauce would ruin it! The two styles are quite different.
Chinese one is mild, slightly sweet and thickened with flour or cornflour so could swamp an Indian spiced curry, IMO.
You have every right to be pissed off.

5128gap · 10/11/2023 21:26

You went to the trouble of cooking him something. He didn't even bother tasting it before smothering the taste of it with something else. From the house of two bottles of ketchup a week...I hear you!

Donutofdoooooom · 10/11/2023 21:27

Surely if you can't do your own rice, you just buy a microwave option?! I cannot imagine going into a takeaway and just buying rice!! Not a chance I'd do that and not walk out with more tbh

shivawn · 10/11/2023 21:30

I hate when people make a very dry curry, I like to have mine absolutely swimming in sauce so I guess it depends how much sauce was in the dish already!

WaltzingWaters · 10/11/2023 21:33

Get a rice cooker if you eat rice enough to make it worth it. Or just the microwave packs of rice to avoid this in future. I often use those if I can’t be bothered to cook rice.

or this method works a treat -
add rice to saucepan. Add in cold water (about an inch above rice line). Boil with the lid on full blast for 5 mins (turn down slightly if boiling over). Turn heat completely off but leave lid on and pan on the turned off but still hot hob. Leave for 10 mins. Perfect fluffy no stick rice.

But back to your question, no, yanbu. I’d be annoyed.

somethingisnotquiteright · 10/11/2023 21:33

75g rice per person.
Rinse thoroughly in cold water.
Add twice as much boiling water from kettle (Eg 150ml per 75g)
Bring to boil on hob.
Lower heat and put lid on saucepan.
Leave to simmer for 10 mins.
Turn off heat & stir.
Replace lid so rice can steam for 10 mins.
Serve.
Perfect every time.

MakeTeaNotLove · 10/11/2023 21:34

Urghhhhhh flavour clash! 🤢

Pinkpinkpink15 · 10/11/2023 21:42

Definitely rude.

but takeaway curry sauce is good!

I couldn't be arsed to stop at the takeaway just for rice & no way I wouldn't get extras!

xyz111 · 10/11/2023 21:52

Just get boil in the bag rice. Doesn't stick, easy!

Poppyseed14 · 10/11/2023 22:18

He poured curry over a different curry? 🤨

Tourmalines · 10/11/2023 22:22

ffs let the man eat what he wants . He ate your curry .

missmollygreen · 10/11/2023 22:43

Home made curry is always rubbish, cant blame him for wanting to make it tasty

Confused19831983 · 10/11/2023 23:31

@pavillion1 It was a "Moroccan style chickpea curry" 😂

I am fully aware that doesn't sound amazing.

It's the fact he didn't even taste it, just smothered it in the curry sauce. That's what I am annoyed about.

If he'd had a bit on the side that would have been fine 😂 He also got vegetable spring rolls and I thought he was going to have the curry sauce with them.

To those commenting about the rice I just can't be arsed anymore. It always goes wrong. I usually use microwave rice but there was none in the cupboard.

I don't mind him getting extra from the Chinese, it's just the fact he smothered the food in it without even tasting or first 😤

To cook basmati rice, add one cup of rice to 2 cups of water (any size cup is fine -it’s the ratio that matters). Bring just to the boil, then put on the lid and turn right down low. In about 10 mins, check to see that the water has all been absorbed, then put the lid straight back on, turn off the heat and leave for another 10 mins. Perfect rice, every time.

margotrose · 10/11/2023 23:43

I don't understand why people get so worked up about this.

Let him have his food the way he wants it.

Deanna11 · 10/11/2023 23:45

Definitely YABU. Give the poor dear a break! I'm sure he didn't mean any harm, or want to upset you.

AutumnNamechange · 10/11/2023 23:56

Have you cooked that dish for him before? Perhaps he was making it more edible if it’s not to his taste and he didn’t want to verbally insult your efforts? I couldn’t get too annoyed over this though - my DH even puts chilli sauce on a roast dinner before he’s tasted it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fionaville · 10/11/2023 23:59

It was a bit of a dick move from him, but he's been made to go the chippy for rice and temptation put in his way, so I couldn't blame him that much.
If you honestly find rice a struggle. Get the microwave sachets/trays or even boil in the bag is too easy to get wrong.
