I support the underlying message/cause but I just find it gross and crass. 🙄

I watched open mouthed in horror when I first saw it on TV. I just couldnt work out what the message in this (as I assumed) 'ad' could be .

Not likely to make me watch at all.

SpookySpoon22 · 08/11/2023 23:37

Yep, it's grim. Was on before school this morning and I don't think it's appropriate for young kids. My DH and I just looked at each other afterwards as if to say WTF?

Mossstitch · 09/11/2023 00:13

It's repulsive and disgusting! I've seen it twice, first time I was open mouthed thinking what am I seeing. Second time I thought how can the actors have done that.......they must have paid them a lot. I won't be watching it again as I will change channels and it has put me off watching anything it is advertising so defeats its objective!

Doyoumind · 09/11/2023 00:18

I saw it and thought WTF. I don't think it effectively conveys its message and looks like a total waste of money.

CloudsNeverStayTheyAlwaysGoAway · 09/11/2023 00:20

If they had to use skidmark in the title then that shows the quality (or lack thereof) I would think.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 09/11/2023 00:31

I found it completely grotesque and am amazed it was allowed to be shown. Mary Whitehouse would have had a lot to say about it (showing my age here 😉

AllAboutThaBase · 09/11/2023 01:44

I too watched in shock with mouth and eyes wide open as I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Saw it yesterday. It's probably the worst thing I've seen all year - at least.

I can't believe all those actors agrees to be part of that filth. I'd lose all respect for my family member if they were in that ad.

I think it would be gone soon as many people might complain. It's shockingly grim and the message is lost in the idiotic shock factor of the ad.

Allschoolsareartschools · 09/11/2023 02:12

It's awful! I couldn't believe it, it's just horrible.
I know they're trying to get a shock factor & it's definitely got people talking but come on, it's a bit much & on at all hours of the day.

LittleMooli · 09/11/2023 06:49

Absolutely fine with it being shown after 9pm. Before that..no. that's too much for kids.

LittleMooli · 09/11/2023 06:50

Also they can't just put their "carbon skidmark" in the washing machine and wash it away anyway.

Plus..what's with the dancing?

Pfpppl · 09/11/2023 07:21

I'm not known for being uptight about this sort of thing usually, but even I find this advert revolting. First time it was on I had the TV on in the background, so I only heard it - even then I want impressed. Now I've had the "pleasure" of actually watching it 🤮

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/11/2023 07:23

Said on another thread last night, it grates me to the degree that I want to go pour crude oil into the ocean in protest. Absolutely no chance that I would watch any part of the series / collection whatever it is they're promoting.

Lochness1975 · 09/11/2023 07:29

Haven’t seen the ad on tv just the YouTube clip posted above. That’s disgusting. I agree with a pp who said they’d be ashamed of their family member to participate in this and they must have been paid a lot! It doesn’t make me want to watch it, it makes me want to avoid it.

Americano75 · 09/11/2023 07:42

It's genuinely grim, like a scene from Black Mirror. I'm not easily shocked but I can't believe E4 thought this was a good concept.

Cherrypie32 · 09/11/2023 08:40

Grim as. First time I saw it I thought Just Stop Oil had managed to hack the channel!

CloverInCrimson · 09/11/2023 08:45

I think the ad is revolting but is it really the 'worst thing I've seen all year' or make you want to 'pour crude oil into the ocean in protest' ??

Ozgirl75 · 09/11/2023 09:26

So it’s an advert that looks like it’s a project for year 10 to come up with, but I suppose they have to do more and more to keep people engaged with the subject.
I don’t disagree that moving the focus away from what individuals can do to what big business and govt can do is a good idea. We recently got a thing through from school with “things we can do” and it’s the normal nonsense about “package free Wednesday” (umm, it just means I’m throwing it away at home and then washing up a tub - funnily enough the supermarket is still selling things in packaging), no drive days (ok so the kids aren’t coming to school that day as I live 7 miles from school, semi rurally and there is no public transport) etc etc. Sadly even my kids are now old enough to realise that even if we recycle everything (which we do), don’t buy many new things (we don’t), drive an electric car (we do), it makes bugger all difference compared to what big business is doing.

MorrisZapp · 09/11/2023 09:31

It was on before the Channel 4 news the other night. Wildly unsuitable for kids and just a thoroughly tasteless video. And it went on, and on, and on, getting more disturbing as it went.

Channel 4 love this of course. They think it makes them edgy and challenging.

OutOfSyncWithReality · 09/11/2023 09:36

I think it's a bit grim and not clever/funny/edgy as C4 probably think it is. Still, it's got people talking!

OneTC · 09/11/2023 09:36

I really like the advert

Di98a · 09/11/2023 13:00

It is horrible and I feel a bit judgemental too. I don't like it it's not funny or edgy just bad taste. I switch over when it comes on. Absolutely disgusting advert.

Di98a · 09/11/2023 13:00

I want to complain about this advert

sollenwir · 09/11/2023 13:01

Me and my teenage son both thought it was hideous!
