Clive and Iuliia Gurzhii were all over the news for 3 days in August, after idiotically going to give birth on a beach a long way from home.
The birth was unwitnessed and very odd circumstances.
I googled them and all I could find was a gofundme (never saw that one coming!!) - it raised GBP128 out of an ambitious target of GBP15.000.

Do you think they are still out there?

Good grief.

cabbagesgreenetc · 31/07/2024 15:09

It just gets weirder!

That is them! so they're in prison on Cayman, where is the 1 year old baby and did they ever go home to their 8 year old?!

It said in the article that there was a child on board, so that's maybe the little one?

artandtalk · 31/07/2024 15:40

That poor 8 year old. Or now 10 year old. I hope someone is looking after her.

RedPony1 · 31/07/2024 16:00

That's mental!

Probably because one was the mother and one was the aunt. Obviously.

where there are two female parents it is different - there are two mothers.

It really doesn't simplify things any more than saying "I gave birth to him".

Speaking as a gay mum who has taken kiddo (with my wife) to many appointments, my wife has never been hurt by this exchange.

'Birthing person' sounds like pretentious nonsense.

CountryStore · 31/07/2024 16:27

Curioser and curioser 🤔

MalteserGeezee · 31/07/2024 16:34

People smuggling?!? What the heck is this whole thing about?! Their poor baby, and poor child back in England with these two scholars for parents!

MadeOfAllWork · 31/07/2024 16:52

Oh well found! I was just thinking about them the other day and wondered what had happened. I assume the child on the boat was the baby. All the notes they wrote sound very ‘freeman of the land’.

TooBigForMyBoots · 31/07/2024 16:54

Crazy.🤯

NearlyAugust · 31/07/2024 17:10

Blimey @taxnotme well found out!

Bet the Daily Mail pick it up!!

HopsiclePopsicle · 31/07/2024 17:57

This whole story is bonkers. I'm boggling at the latest developments.

I do think of the two children tangled up in this - hope they are as ok as possible.

Ponderingwindow · 31/07/2024 17:59

I think the older child is getting the better end of this situation. I’m worried about what is likely the younger child with them on the boat.

for some reason I wonder about these people every few weeks.

Testina · 31/07/2024 18:02

Bloody hell.

So they’ve ditched the older girl completely, and continued sailing around with the baby instead of staying put in Grenada (or wherever they were when the last news reports were out) to sort out her passport.

They sound (especially him) both stupid and arrogant.

So I wouldn’t even say they were being the Ethiopians for money - though I’m 99% sure they were. But 1% of me thinks that Clive reckons (à la Freeman bollocks) that the Ethiopians had as much right to be in Cayman as his daughter* did to sail around to anywhere completely undocumented 🙄

*I do think it’s their baby not one they’ve bought

Dixiechickonhols · 31/07/2024 18:03

Thanks for posting. I’d guess the child on board is the baby now a toddler (presumably still without a passport)
It perhaps explains why on yacht in first place and how they were surviving financially if part of a people smuggling ring.
Presumably eldest is with auntie in Tameside.

How can someone so slim be pregnant with a baby that size and not know? I can understand it if you're overweight and the bump is disguised. I wasn't very slim but I could see limbs when my babies stretched out inside!

My friend's little sister was doing backflips in her gymnastics class, wearing a leotard, the day before she gave birth. You would never, ever in a million years have guessed she was pregnant. She honestly had a washboard stomach throughout.

She was only 15 though and in complete denial - at no point she had been to the doctor or told anyone that she wasn't having periods. I don't believe for one minute that the mother in your example didn't have any idea that she was pregnant!

I’m the same! Every now and then I Google, and the lack of anything new made me wonder if there was a legal process suppressing it.

There was a MNer on a previous thread telling us all that <older daughter, I won’t make her> was absolutely fine and had had a wonderful day on the beach with her Auntie (actually a cousin of Iulia’s I think) and we were all horrid. She hasn’t been back 🤷🏻‍♀️

RoseAndRose · 31/07/2024 18:11

I was thinking about this family, and wondering how they were getting on, as it's almost exactly a year since they first hit the headlines. But had hoped, as there are DC involved, that things had normalised enough for us never to hear of them again.

Never did I dream they would be facing trafficking charges (unrelated, it seems, to the events of last year)

sunglassesonthetable · 31/07/2024 18:46

What absolute weapons. Those poor kids.

It wasn’t an auntie, more distant than that - a cousin of the mother I think, quite young IIRC. And the last I saw online was that social services had “stolen” the girl.

I think someone on hear local to them shared a photo of his ramblings about he being stolen that had been stuck up as missing child posters - but the post was removed because showing the poster named her.

Yes she was only young caring for the girl left behind for months and social services did check on her and she ran off? Clive then returned to Tameside I recall leaving mum and baby in Caribbean.
I also think of this story from time to time. If they make a film no one would believe it.
