To think my hair is nothing like I asked for and be crying about it?

I changed my hair colour quite substantially today. I had a full head bleach/platinum blonde before and wanted something like the colour in the second photo shown. The first photo is what I have. I specifically mentioned that I didn’t want it to ‘just’ look highlighted and not frumpy.

it’s a big change and I know my hair is shorter than the picture, but I feel it doesn’t look anything like I asked for and I feel really upset about it and keep crying. Not least as I suspect the condition of my hair means it may not be possible to correct it.

I know I need to message the stylist. I feel awful as she is SO lovely. I’m also not sure I now trust her to correct it however.

AIBU? (I’m thinking it’s not like the photo and for crying like a wally)

If your hair was longer and curlier and with professional lighting then it would probably look more like the picture, the colours look similar

HattieIou · 18/10/2023 13:08

Sorry but no its nothing like the picture I'd be gutted too

Cotswoldmama · 18/10/2023 13:08

I agree with pp, the colour looks very similar just different lighting and yours isn't styled in curls.

Seaweed42 · 18/10/2023 13:09

It's quite like the photo in fairness.
The photo has had the tendrils of hair separated out and individually curled.

It's just styled differently, no?

Or is the colour you are querying?

LilyLemonade · 18/10/2023 13:09

It looks nice and the colour is very similar to the picture. Just the styling is a bit different.

ilovemydogmore · 18/10/2023 13:09

The colour and styling looks very very similar the photo, but you don't look like the girl in the photo, you don't have a bright light shined on you and you have short hair? What were you expecting?

widowtwankywashroom · 18/10/2023 13:10

It's never going to look as good as an Instagram post
Your hair is much shorter

Sprig1 · 18/10/2023 13:10

I agree that the colour looks very similar.

ilovemydogmore · 18/10/2023 13:10

Actually, looking again it looks BETTER than the photo. The light hair in the photo is a weird greeny yellow and the highlights are really stark against the base. I really like yours.

SM4713 · 18/10/2023 13:11

I'm sorry you aren't happy with it. Other than the length and more curls, they both look the same to me. Dark roots with highlights. Were you wanting the dark roots covered or are you unhappy with the highlights?

coaltitsrock · 18/10/2023 13:11

It looks very similar. But your hair is a lot shorter than the picture. Unless the hairdresser cut too much (you don't mention this) I don't think your expectations were quite realistic.

coxesorangepippin · 18/10/2023 13:11

No, it's not the same at all

The colour and length are both wrong!

TheDuchessOfMN · 18/10/2023 13:11

I think yours is lovely, and although it’s similar to the other photo, it is hard to achieve because you don’t have the length or the amount of hair.

I do think you could have one or 2 more highlights to the right, but it’s still lovely. I’d be happy with it but I sympathise when you’re not happy with it.

HattieIou · 18/10/2023 13:11

Taking the length away, it looks closer to the photo. It has nowhere near enough blocky blonde in it though

edwinbear · 18/10/2023 13:12

I also think the colour is very similar, but photo 2 is a professional, model standard photo, with all the lighting & products that will have gone into her hair to make it look glossy. Your hair looks lovely OP, but a big change can just take a bit of getting used to.

Ylvamoon · 18/10/2023 13:12

It looks very similar to me... it does look like the yours is a bit darker.

The 2nd picture has longer, fuller hair in comparison... I also agree on the professional lighting probably with some touch up that makes the 2nd picture look 1000 dollars worth.

Malificent1 · 18/10/2023 13:12

I think it’s not far off OP. The lighting is different, and there’s a lot more blonde with the photo you wanted because her hair is a lot longer. Plus the curls highlight the blonde.

I think it’s more that you’re used to it being a lot lighter and it’ll just take a little getting used to. It looks lovely!

Coffeerum · 18/10/2023 13:12

It's pretty similar really, you're never going to achieve the same look when the inspo photo is so different from the hair you have to work with.

The inspo hair has a lot more length, which allows much more brightness as you move down. Your hair is so much shorter, if it was any brighter at the ends it wouldn't look blended and would just look like a grown out bleach job.

NotesApp · 18/10/2023 13:12

It’s very similar. The main difference is the styling and lighting- you’re never going to get the highlights defined in the same way sitting in your car as in a studio.

Totalwasteofpaper · 18/10/2023 13:13

The colour is similar but your hair texture and styling is different.
I prefer yours tbh.

Is it that you aren't good with change? I ask as I now don't get my hair cut and coloured at the same time as it's too much for me 😬

McIntire · 18/10/2023 13:14

It looks lovely

You can’t be crying surely?!

CrazyDogLady2022 · 18/10/2023 13:14

It’s the colour I’m querying. The photo is more of a baylayage/chunky blonde look and I feel mine just looks like fine highlights.

Hearmenow23 · 18/10/2023 13:14

I think in real life you have that colour. You are just missing the length. It looks good. Just use purple shampoo and let it grow. Have some more highlights added in a few months.

Aylestone · 18/10/2023 13:15

She’s done a good job with what she had, the colours good, not as blocky, but it’s never going to look like the model you posted as there’s such a huge difference in length. Do you mean she’s cut it shorter than what you asked for?

YellowChrysnthemum · 18/10/2023 13:15

The model has more light blonde for sure. I don't think you abu to be upset and tearful, but I would say that often a big change can feel overwhelming and make you focus on perceived imperfections. I think it must be pretty hard to "exactly" match a photo for the stylist. My advice would be to wait for a few days, wash it and wear it and get used to it. If you still feel unhappy - then go back when you are calm and explain what you're not happy about.

I do think yours looks very nice fwiw.
