To think my hair is nothing like I asked for and be crying about it?

I changed my hair colour quite substantially today. I had a full head bleach/platinum blonde before and wanted something like the colour in the second photo shown. The first photo is what I have. I specifically mentioned that I didn’t want it to ‘just’ look highlighted and not frumpy.

it’s a big change and I know my hair is shorter than the picture, but I feel it doesn’t look anything like I asked for and I feel really upset about it and keep crying. Not least as I suspect the condition of my hair means it may not be possible to correct it.

I know I need to message the stylist. I feel awful as she is SO lovely. I’m also not sure I now trust her to correct it however.

AIBU? (I’m thinking it’s not like the photo and for crying like a wally)

Is the photo from Instagram etc? It will be edited. And there is no way to achieve it in real life. Sorry.
Tong some curls into your hair, as it's a gorgeous colour

Cowlover89 · 18/10/2023 14:00

Think it looks lovely x

Seaweed42 · 18/10/2023 14:01

I'd say give it a day or two, then go back to the stylist and say 'I'm not happy with the colour, it's not what I asked for. Can you fix it for me please'.

She might say 'well, you asked for X and I did X, maybe you didn't understand blah blah'

Then you say 'I'm not happy with the colour and I'd like it fixed please with more blonde like I wanted.''

She might say 'well I'll have to talk to Whoever, I think you expected something else etc. We gave you what you asked for blah blah'

Then you say (politely) 'I understand what you are saying. I'm not happy with the colour and I'd like it changed please. And I expect that to be done for free'

You just keep repeating what you'd like with very little extra explaining or extra content.

And just be calm and centered and stand your ground.

You bought a service you weren't happy with.
You've been there before and are a good customer.
Shit happens occasionally and they need to cover that.

yarnwitch · 18/10/2023 14:03

I think they've done it very similar. As others have said, your hair is much shorter and thinner so it will never be identical, plus the models photo isn't real life. The lightest parts on the models hair are the long lengths which yours doesn't have.
Not much help sorry but I think the colour looks really nice.

Feraldogmum · 18/10/2023 14:04

The colours are both very similar and frankly both look grey/washed out. I don’t really under stand anyone wanting to dye their hair grey and then being surprised at feeling it looks frumpy.Sorry.

LindaDawn · 18/10/2023 14:06

Looks same to me too.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 18/10/2023 14:09

I'm not sure if my eyes are going but the first page of comments say your colour is the same as the model photo but I don't see that? Your hair looks grey not blonde. I'm not sure if you wanted to go grey from your original blond? If so, then great and it is a lovely style. If you wanted blonde though, I wouldn't be happy at all 😥

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/10/2023 14:09

I think it looks as I'd expect when not freshly styled and under professional lights.

Its5656 · 18/10/2023 14:11

Agree with others.. Hairdresser has done a good job with the colour, the photo looks different because length/thickness/styling/lighting.

TheDuchessOfMN · 18/10/2023 14:12

I would love to see what your hair looked like before today’s highlights, and what base she was working on.

BowlOfNoodles · 18/10/2023 14:15

Styling and length is the difference

Catsfrontbum · 18/10/2023 14:15

I think your hair is lovely. I think the true colour won’t show until you wash and style after a week or 2.

Just came here to point out it's brightened, clntrasted and shot in different light

CarPour · 18/10/2023 14:21

The photo on the left is different lighting, will be edited and is styled to show off the highlights. It's specifically sued to advertised someone's very expensive training sessions.

Is it exactly the same? No. But you can never expect to get exactly the same. You hair looks good and is very similar

bonzaitree · 18/10/2023 14:24

OP, the picture you showed is on someone with long shiny hair professionally styled and lit.

It has also probably been filtered and enhanced to within an inch of it’s life (have you EVER seen someone’s hair look exactly like that in real life?!)

You’re asking your hairdresser to exactly copy a look which is NOT REAL. So you can’t blame her if yours looks slightly different. Because you’re an actual real life non-filtered and non-enhanced person.

The images you see online are not real.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/10/2023 14:24

I feel like it's as good as you could have got?

BardRelic · 18/10/2023 14:25

Thanks. I do think it needs more blonde on the ends. But I also think the condition means more bleach on the ends is too damaging.

You could try cassia powder, AKA white henna. It will condition and give a more golden blonde rather than grey colour. You can mix it with oil and water to condition the hair or leave it overnight mixed with lemon juice to dye the hair more. Obvs. test patch first to see what it does. And I find mixing with oil and water gives some colour, even though that's not what instructions for it generally say. You can just use veg oil but if you've got almond oil or similar, that will be good for your hair.

I use cassia to cover my grey. It's great, because it gives a fairly natural look. NB it's non bleach, so will only dye pale-coloured hair.

3luckystars · 18/10/2023 14:26

I think she did a great job, you just don’t like it. That ok.

FoghornUnicorn · 18/10/2023 14:27

I think she needed to go darker with the root melt/lowlight to show more of a contrast with the lighter blonde pieces.

but I still think yours looks nice and nothing to cry over.

Chickenpie35 · 18/10/2023 14:28

Absolutely nothing wrong with your hair it looks like picture, it's natural light and shorter hair.

Your hair doesn't look like it's been just highlighted i think it's blended really lovely. When your colour needs doing again then it may be more bright on the grayish colour

She's done a lovely job she does not need to correct anything. You need to be realistic.
Absolutely horrible to criticise the poor girl who being expected to make different hair type look like an edited / professional photo

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 18/10/2023 14:28

The model's hair is VERY expensively died white. It's very difficult to achieve, would take 6-8 hours for her length of hair depending on her base colour, and best results are on hair that's never been bleached or dyed before.

You have standard blonde highlights, on already dyed hair.

They're totally different. Your hair looks very nice, but not like the model's at all.

KeepSmiling89 · 18/10/2023 14:29

I think it looks lovely OP. The original photo will be heavily filtered and perfect lighting to get it looking the way it does.

disappearingfish · 18/10/2023 14:32

I think your hair looks really nice. I feel slightly sorry for hairdressers who are being asked to achieve the impossible by clients who bring in photoshopped images of fantasy hair that only looks that good for about 10 minutes after a full day's colouring and styling.

Pushkinini · 18/10/2023 14:33

I think it looks very like the picture. I had my hair done the other day, and took photos in to show my hairdresser. Apparently a lot of the hair shots are edited quite heavily giving a false impression of the outcome. The second photo definitely looks more lit up.

Cas112 · 18/10/2023 14:33

CrazyDogLady2022 · 18/10/2023 13:14

It’s the colour I’m querying. The photo is more of a baylayage/chunky blonde look and I feel mine just looks like fine highlights.

what you have is DEFINATLEY balayage.. highlights would go to your root. Your blonde just isn't as bright as the other picture, the other picture will look brighter because there is more hair on that picture and the hair is thicker. Theoretically you have got the same as what you requested but the result looks slight different because your hair is finer
