To worry this war might lead to WW3.

I feel so sorry for everyone involved in this war in the Middle East. So many people think it can't affect us but it could so easily escalate with Russia and the US getting involved. I'm quite scared tbh. Anyone else?

So much of what is going on just now (and has gone on recently) is still related to the end of WW2 imho, I don't say that in order to lay blame, more just a general perception. I also think religion, or twisted interpretation of religion has a lot to answer for.

TheNewMoon · 12/10/2023 12:58

YANBU Everything right now seems to be leading inexorably to a fully global conflict, with tensions heightening in a number of regions. War is a pretty natural state for humanity to be in, we’ve had a much longer period of relative peace than at any other time in our existence.

I'm glad we have Biden in the White House as I believe he's sensible and won't get America dragged into it.

alongcameboo · 12/10/2023 13:01

I thought the exact same thing this morning OP. Lots of 'heavyweights' backing rival countries; things could take a turn very easily.

SecondClassReturnToDottinghamPlease · 12/10/2023 13:08

I am worried. I believe Israel is a nuclear state too.

Ifailed · 12/10/2023 13:08

Highly unlikely. Sadly there are other on-going conflicts, such as the coup in Niger, Syria, Sudan, etc. etc, plus of course Ukraine where the old Soviet empire have been squaring up to the USA via a proxy.

Mrburnshound · 12/10/2023 13:13

I think many countries are being very careful not to become involved directly. It's in nobody's interest to have a US/west showdown against Iran

are you on something?

So sensible he pulled out of Afghanistan leaving all the weapons behind. Guess where those went.

I suppose he’s unlikely to be awake for long enough to make a decision so there’s that.

Dotjones · 12/10/2023 13:17

I don't think there's an appetite for a world war these days especially given the consequences of a nuclear conflict. Wars make certain people rich, that's for sure, but it's better to make money with a war thats thousands of miles away than risk one on your own doorstep.

I think the best thing to do would be stay out of this conflict and let them sort it out amongst themselves. It's clear by now that the Israelis and Palestinians cannot live side by side so it's probably best just to let them settle their differences as best they can.

Castlerock44 · 12/10/2023 13:18

We've always relied on the concept of mutual assured destruction. I'm hoping this still holds.

America has already delivered munitions to Israel and the Gerald Ford is sitting in the eastern med. I'm not so confident.

Fulshaw · 12/10/2023 13:18

I think Russia has its hands full elsewhere to be honest.

Username82y · 12/10/2023 13:21

Might? It will and we're sleepwalking into it. Look at the pro-Hamas anti Semitic sentiment and protests already taking place globally. There may not be fighting on Israeli borders but there will be pockets of unrest around the globe due to protests and clashes.

LadybirdLover · 12/10/2023 13:22

What is the point of wasting your life worrying? You can’t do anything about it so just enjoy yourself.

Viviennemary · 12/10/2023 13:22

No. I worried more about Ukraine starting a world war. If Putin wades in then we have something to worry about.

TheNewMoon · 12/10/2023 13:25

Warfare isn’t only about bombs and other weapons, it’s the manipulation of public opinion, cyberattacks, espionage and the undermining or disabling of communication networks among other things. Much of which you are already living through.

I agree it’s pointless though natural to worry, hope you can find ways to create peace in your own mind.

Because domestic terrorism is a very real threat at the moment. It's natural to be concerned about what may happen given what is happening globally at the moment.

GnomeDePlume · 12/10/2023 13:28

Not sure Russia has a lot left to offer in practical support to anyone.

Even if it was, and I don’t think it is, wasting your own life worrying is pointless.

It has money and is in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China & South Africa) which is the greater concern when you look at their tech infrastructure (China) and nuclear capabilities (India)

Who says being concerned is wasting your life? I don't expend any energy outside of online discussion on it. I worry for my friends who are affected by it but otherwise I'm not.

Why are you so keen to shut down discussion and debate around the issue?

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 12/10/2023 13:31

Not this again.
