I feel so sorry for everyone involved in this war in the Middle East. So many people think it can't affect us but it could so easily escalate with Russia and the US getting involved. I'm quite scared tbh. Anyone else?

Honestly op just don't watch the news. I stopped long ago and have no clue about this sort of thing or anything else. I am in a blissful bubble of happiness.

I think that’s thoughtless, verging on offensive.
I, and most other people, most definitely ARE thinking of the families missing their children, the people whose homes and families have been destroyed. Many of us are happy to forgo a “blissful bubble” in order to empathise and get behind those less fortunate right now.

These inflammatory threads are inexhaustible and always started by those who have absolutely no clue about global issues, yet they cause a huge amount of distress to many. Think before you post!

I'm glad we have Biden in the White House as I believe he's sensible and won't get America dragged into it.

I think most things go over Biden's head nowadays. He can't remember people's names, can't always finish his sentences and it's possible he has the beginnings of dementia. He called his DGD by his dead son's name. I'm not at all confident with his finger on the button. He's too old for the job and the US needs a younger president.

These threads just make people more anxious.

I can understand that but the thread is clearly titled so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to take some personal responsibility and not open it if they are feeling overwhelmed at the moment.

I often take news/media breaks when it's all seems too much but at those times I don't expect other people to stop having discussions which might cause me more worry.

sprigatito · 12/10/2023 14:17

Biden is the best option of the two currently available, because although he (like Trump) is too old and has mental deficits, at least he wasn't a raging sociopathic narcissist before he began to decline. I feel so sorry for ordinary decent Americans right now.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 12/10/2023 14:21

I am worried. I believe Israel is a nuclear state too.

Yes, and one of the other eight is the UK - which could be a good or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it.

Alexandra2001 · 12/10/2023 14:25

Israel and countries in the middle east have been fighting each in land battles far far more serious than what we are seeing now.

But the civilian (the Palestinian ones) deaths will be enormous, a population of 2m cannot survive with no water, energy, heating etc for very long.

Just cannot see it escalating, Egypt and Jordan are more western focused, Syria has nothing left after years of civil war and the Russians are tied up in Ukraine.... Iran doesn't want to be attacked by a nuclear state.

and why worry you can’t change anything

This is what my husbands says to me, but the fact that I can't do anything is precisely why I worry! After all, if I could do something about it, I would. It's the inability to stop the worst happening that is worrying.

WestwardHo1 · 12/10/2023 14:40

This is something I'm putting firmly in the "Things I can do nothing about therefore I refuse to panic about" box

AInightingale · 12/10/2023 14:41

I'm more worried about what will come to Europe in the wake of it. This is just fuelling militancy. I feel very uneasy looking at those pro-Hamas demonstrations in Germany.

Palmasailor · 12/10/2023 13:15

are you on something?

So sensible he pulled out of Afghanistan leaving all the weapons behind. Guess where those went.

I suppose he’s unlikely to be awake for long enough to make a decision so there’s that.

I am guessing that was sarcasm.

Luddite26 · 12/10/2023 14:42

Glad Biden is in the White House? Have you heard the news ? He stands with Israel whatever.

The man who said he saw photos of beheaded babies, then had to backtrack? We're fucked. He's not much better than Trump.

The real power in the US lies with their military and there are plenty of hawks in the Pentagon.
For those worrying about the possible repercussions of the current situation, some of us have lived through similar things, I recall in 1961 during the Cuban Missile crisis going to school and not knowing if we would survive the day, the US and Russia were both nuclear nations and were threatening to use them. It's not to belittle the horrors happening now but I do feel that people get far too invested in matters they can't control to the detriment of their families.

Paperbagsaremine · 12/10/2023 14:46

Nah, don't get me wrong this is all heartbreaking, but proxy wars have been the in thing ever since WWII ended.
Have the fighting with poor people a long way away... :[

Luddite26 · 12/10/2023 14:48

I fear they are going to flatten Gaza. I wish all these bloody men would step back and calm their egos down and just give peace a chance. But then who would any of them be . Nobody's and now they're big men with all this power. What a waste. I

Micsays · 12/10/2023 14:54

You have to be kidding? Since Biden is in Ukraine and Russia have gone to war and now we have this?! It ain’t a coincidence! Give me strength

Highandlows · 12/10/2023 14:56

@GettingStuffed An American with sarcasm. Though was mostly a British thing.

VeronicasCloset · 12/10/2023 14:58

It won’t. There isn’t the public backing for it to lead to WW3.
People wring their hands and send love and prayers but, in fact, most people are NIMBYS who wouldn’t want to risk their daily routine.

lol, you must be having a laugh. Everyone slates Trump but there were no wars when he was president. Leaders of other countries respected Trump, they don't respect Biden.
Biden is senile, all he does is give billions to Ukraine and allows millions of illegals in to USA via the southern border, causing utter chaos in NY & everywhere else. He is a disgrace!
