What's something you wish you could like more?

Is there anything you really wish you could like more than you do?

Mine's gardening. I have friends who swear by how therapeutic it is, and I really do like having a garden, but I mostly find doing it an exhausting, frustrating chore. I feel like apologising in advance to any plant I bring back from yet another trip to the garden centre, its chances of survival are so slim.
And as for grow your own - I've successfully brought up three kids but it seems I don't have what it takes to nurture a single tomato to fruition. Sigh...

I just really can't be bothered to do things I don't like. I guess I'd like to like tidying and making the house look good as I do love it looking great but can't do it myself. Can't go all the way with any tedious cleaning task.

evilharpy · 09/10/2023 23:27

Also gardening (I like gardens, just not gardening. I might hire a gardener in spring even though our garden is only small)

Mornings. Wish I was a morning person but it's never happening

FelicityBeedle · 09/10/2023 23:29

Mushrooms, I love the recipes, I love the look of them, I’d love to learn to forage for them. Unfortunately I find the taste and texture vile despite trying to learn better.

Boomboom22 · 09/10/2023 23:29

Absolutely hate mornings. But why would you want to like them? Would that make you one who falls asleep on the sofa and loses all evening? My husband is a morning person but always falling asleep after 2!

KingsleyBorder · 09/10/2023 23:29

Watching team sport on TV. My husband loves it and I would love to join in but I can’t work out how to watch what multiple people are doing all at once. Hurts my brain. Tennis is my limit.

GodDammitCecil · 09/10/2023 23:30

Run. Exercise in general. Sports.

I wish I was I one of those people who loved it. I really do.

Tothemoonandbackx · 09/10/2023 23:31

@FelicityBeedle another one for mushrooms, it would make being a vegetarian so much easier. They look amazing in recipes, but everyone I've tried has either tasted too earthy, too slimy, bleurgh!!!! And Olives too, and I've tried so many times with them, lol x

DelurkingAJ · 09/10/2023 23:31

Exercise. I don’t get a buzz. I just end up grumpy.

Thanksforreading · 09/10/2023 23:33

I’ve got multiple answers here…

Cooking- to think I need to carry on cooking and meal prepping for the next 14-16 years of my life, and that could increase in a few years if we plan for another baby…

Loosing baby weight- to think we might have another baby why put all that effort into exercising…

Cleaning/ tidying up- it’s so repetitive, and it’s not even rewarding as our two year old just loves to throw everything onto the floor… I’m hoovering up to six times a day on the days I’m not working 🫣

TooOldForThisNonsense · 09/10/2023 23:35

Another one for exercise

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 09/10/2023 23:39

Playing...board games, kid games, running around with the kids etc. I desperately want to be the mum that is high energy and fun but I find games really really boring.

Jackienory · 09/10/2023 23:41

Salad 😑

QueenMegan · 09/10/2023 23:43

Cooking. Its such a wank

I prefer cereal

StEtienne93 · 09/10/2023 23:44

Salad and exercise.
If I could really like of those, I think it would change my life

LunaNorth · 09/10/2023 23:45

Running. I do it, but I don’t enjoy it.

Working. Can take it or leave it, honestly. Never really been a careers woman. It would be nice to feel vaguely successful, though.

Cleaning and tidying my house.

I love a clean, tidy organised space... but can't be fucked spending my time doing that when I could be doing other things that don't include scrubbing the floors, organising plastic tubs and folding towels ever so neatly.

TotalOverhaul · 09/10/2023 23:52

Gardening, cooking and crafting. I hate the feel of earth under my fingernails, hate the guilt of forgetting to weed or water and get overwhelmed by sudden bumper crops you can;t give away fast enough so the fruit rots.

Cooking is okay but after twenty years of doing it for very fussy SEN DS2 and veggie DS1 when we are not veggie, it all feels a chore. DH gets all excited by new recipes and tries new stuff out all the time. I just can't be bothered. I'd love to find it therapeutic.

And any craft. I'm, just not good at it, not patient, not perfectionist. Friends of mine upholster chairs, make clothes, even felt animals or crochet. I just get bored really quickly.

On the bright side, I love exercise and being outdoors.

ExtinguishTheLight · 09/10/2023 23:58

Leaving the house. I love being out. I don't love the palaver of getting out.

Cleaning. I adore doing the laundry. My house would be spotless if I liked any other household task that much.

Kangaroobrain · 10/10/2023 00:00

Exercise... yep, that's another one. I'm yet to find a type I actually enjoy.
