What's something you wish you could like more?

Is there anything you really wish you could like more than you do?

Mine's gardening. I have friends who swear by how therapeutic it is, and I really do like having a garden, but I mostly find doing it an exhausting, frustrating chore. I feel like apologising in advance to any plant I bring back from yet another trip to the garden centre, its chances of survival are so slim.
And as for grow your own - I've successfully brought up three kids but it seems I don't have what it takes to nurture a single tomato to fruition. Sigh...

Same gardening....everyone says how wonderful it is but I actively hate it. I only get joy in sitting in the garden in the sun. Grass, patio, stones none of it bring me joy and needs so much continual maintenance.

Garlic and seafood, baking, food shopping, beach holidays,

You’ve just described my favourite day!

For me it’s mornings (I just cannot function properly until at least 9) and exercise - I do it, but don’t get that buzz that others seem to get. I also hate board games, but tolerate for the dc.

tillytoodles1 · 10/10/2023 15:26

Cinnamon. I hate it and it's in so many things now.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 10/10/2023 15:29

Exercise, definitely. I don't hate it, but I don't like it enough to prioritise it when I'm busy.

KimberleyClark · 10/10/2023 15:30

Fish and seafood. Most of it just looks and smells revolting to me. I can eat smoked salmon, and haddock in a fishcake but that's it.Cod literally makes me sick.

BodegaSushi · 10/10/2023 15:34

The heat.

Exercise- I try to force myself to do it, because I know how important it is for my health but I have tried all sorts and not found anything that a) I enjoy or b) I am not absolutely terrible at. I know lots of people who say they get an incredible high and/or sense of achievement but the best I can manage is not hating EVERY minute.

Baths- I love the idea of an hour or so in the evening soaking in a long hot bubble bath, perhaps with a nice scented candle or maybe a book. I would then emerge feeling relaxed and clean and wrapping myself in a lovely fluffy towel/robe ready to go to bed all warm. relaxed and cosy. In reality the bath is always either so hot that I feel sweaty and stifled or goes cold within a few minutes. If I get my hair wet, I then feel like I need to have a shower to wash it after my bath but if I try to keep it dry (even in a shower cap) I end up with frizzy, sweaty hair. I can't read without glasses, which steam up in a hot bath so reading a book is out of the question unless the bath is too cold and I am yet to find a scented candle that doesn't make me feel slightly queezy.

Big Xmas/birthday get-togethers- Love the idea of being part of a big group of family and friends who all gather together for special occasions. In reality the only experiences I have of attempting this have been horrendous, with arguments and complaints/passive aggressive comments at all stages and invariably some sort of falling out on the day.

Loverofoxbowlakes · 10/10/2023 16:22

Coffee and olives. Feel like I'm failing as an adult because I can't stand them, yet I'm told relentlessly how much I'm missing out. Starbucks menus terrify me and waiters swear under their breaths as I refuse the teeny green nibbles.

Routine - I'd love a housework routine. Meal prep routine. God knows I need one. But I just can't do it. Everything is just so OVERWHELMING - i know the benefit, I see the benefit but I can't stick to it for more than a week.

forgotname · 10/10/2023 16:23

PerspiringElizabeth · 10/10/2023 16:23

Relaxing/doing nothing. Makes me anxious!

Beer - I really feel like I'm missing out from the way people rhapsodise about craft beer, but I just can't stand the stuff it all tastes like earwax to me. It'd be lovely to have a cheaper and less alcoholic option than a glass of wine, but I just can't bear it.

Gardening - I would so love my little garden to be well curated with fruit and vegetables growing, but the idea of rooting around in the dirt and the chance of accidentally touching a slug makes me gag.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 10/10/2023 16:31

Cheese. It's in everything and I don't like it!

KickingEAP · 10/10/2023 16:33

Exercise. I've just rejoined the gym though. Perhaps as I get fitter it'll get more enjoyable?

Socialising. I have been masking my whole life. People think I'm outgoing but all I want to do is be at home where I feel safe. I don't even answer the phone or door at home and love it.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 10/10/2023 16:36

Cooking.
Such a relentless chore.
