Is there anything you really wish you could like more than you do?

Mine's gardening. I have friends who swear by how therapeutic it is, and I really do like having a garden, but I mostly find doing it an exhausting, frustrating chore. I feel like apologising in advance to any plant I bring back from yet another trip to the garden centre, its chances of survival are so slim.
And as for grow your own - I've successfully brought up three kids but it seems I don't have what it takes to nurture a single tomato to fruition. Sigh...

I feel like I'd rather always be on my phone than read a book or watch a film. My screen time is terrible

Oh and exercising 😅

PureBlackVoid · 10/10/2023 00:59

Salad and exercise.

Men. They just make it so difficult though

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 10/10/2023 01:09

Olives. Being a veggie who can't stand them is tricky.

Being able to eat peppers would open up even more menu options, but that's an actual physical intolerance as well as dislike. So liking them wouldn't help, it would just move them into the same deeply frustrating category as cheese.

smilesup · 10/10/2023 01:15

Classical music, I find it both dull and frightening. An impressive feat.
DH loves it though and wants to go to concerts with someone..his mates are definitely not fans either so I feel bad for him.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 10/10/2023 01:25

Olives, keep trying to develop a taste for them but just can't.

Ditto shellfish.

And the gym, I like walking and swimming, however I keep reading I need to lift weights at my age but really hate the gym and,I have tried many times.

Ice skating. Feels like such a miserable thing not to enjoy but I just can't get loosen up and think of anything other than ending up on my backside.

jacintally · 10/10/2023 02:22

The only people I know who enjoy gardening are retired, or don't work, either way they have time to devote to it, or they pay someone to do the bulk of it.

babyproblems · 10/10/2023 02:23

Mornings and exercise.

id love to be full of energy and raring to go in both scenarios but the reality is I’m knackered and can’t be arsed!!!

i love gardening but only when it’s got a clear end goal like creating a new space or planting plan or a complete cut back. I struggle with the faffy bits!

coxesorangepippin · 10/10/2023 02:31

Oh yes gardening

Sewing

Doing activities on the spur of the moment/invitations - I need three or four days at least to mentally prepare myself for activities with other people

Classical music
Classical literature ( who am I trying to kid)

wishon · 10/10/2023 02:56

Sports (or even exercise like hiking). It's such an easy way to make and stay friends, all the camaraderie. Even if I had unlimited time and money I'm just allergic to physical activity.

Catsmere · 10/10/2023 03:11

Gardening and cooking. Always loathed cooking, ever since being introduced to it in Home Eco by a bullying teacher (the sort who despised anyone who wasn't already proficient: see also phys ed teachers). I tried having a few potted plants but they died. It's just one more thing I'm responsible for keeping alive. I don't find any pleasure in it and have no interest in learning the skills needed. Fortunately I now live somewhere with communal gardens I don't have to look after, and a cook to do all the meals, so none of that crap is my problem now!

I also hated any sort of exercise other than walking (see: phys ed teachers) until very recently when I started doing tailored classes. It's not competitive and there's no running. I know the people who run the classes and it makes a huge difference having someone likeable and trustworthy helping you.

PaminaMozart · 10/10/2023 03:19

You don't need to go to the gym to work out with weights, @Shimmyshimmycocobop !!

It's Caroline Girvan you want - on YouTube. Life-changing 😎

Really sad to see so many here hating exercise...

mathanxiety · 10/10/2023 03:45

Running, or even jogging. Also, using the crosstrainer.

wishon · 10/10/2023 04:36

@Catsmere That's so nice to read about your classes! Glad you're enjoying them.

I had really patient, fun-loving PE teachers (and also private sports classes) as a child, and most adult sports/dance/etc social activities here are laidback, but I genuinely suspect I'm dyspraxic.

However with Youtube now you can practise and learn anything to death in private and sloooow motion, so maybe I'll privately try to learn a really repetitive sport that doesn't require much coordination (if that even exists?! am I just thinking of factory work or something haha)

Wellwellwellwallace · 10/10/2023 04:40

Dh parents. God I hate how much I hate the bullying tosspots. Wish it was easy.

Lincslady53 · 10/10/2023 05:16

I am not an exercise lover, but when I hit 50, felt I had to try to get a bit fitter. Bought an ipod and got into listening to podcasts on a walk. 20 years later, 3 stone lighter and still go for 5 mile walks most mornings with a podcast library that changes as I get into different subjexts. If its any consolation, my friends who were excerise lovers and gym bunnies are developing problems with their joints as they get older. Everything in moderation.

LindorDoubleChoc · 10/10/2023 05:19

Walking (yawn).

PimpMyFridge · 10/10/2023 05:29

Bananas. They're healthy and cheap but I have to force myself to eat one at all, and I hate banana bread.

Warum · 10/10/2023 05:59

People.
