What's something you wish you could like more?

Is there anything you really wish you could like more than you do?

Mine's gardening. I have friends who swear by how therapeutic it is, and I really do like having a garden, but I mostly find doing it an exhausting, frustrating chore. I feel like apologising in advance to any plant I bring back from yet another trip to the garden centre, its chances of survival are so slim.
And as for grow your own - I've successfully brought up three kids but it seems I don't have what it takes to nurture a single tomato to fruition. Sigh...

Houmous, hummus however you spell it.

Nutritious, cheapish, but after a few dips I'm just done.

Yeh, and people. I mean mostly some I work with, but also those I pass by. I'm an introvert.

Writing.

Mornings.

Yoga.

Early nights

Coffee. Love the smell but hate the taste, I keep trying in the hope my tastebuds will change but nope so far.

Camping. I would like to be the sort who packs up a tent or maybe a camper van ( wow, the price of those!)on a Friday afternoon after getting out of work a bit early, and taking off to the countryside for the weekend.
But I hate camping, I despise being cold, wet and uncomfortable; I don’t like insects and creepy craw lies, or having to stumble around in the dark to find my way to some toilet block, or worse still, bare my backside in a field for unknown things to bite it. I would love to be all cheerily off for a healthful and almost free weekend, but I cannot abide it. I’m not even going to list the unpleasant experiences I’ve had, both camping and going to the loo outside, but I’m not going there ever again!
I also wish I liked driving, I’ve been doing it for 40 years but I still hate it, and find it really stressful as soon as I get out of London. I’ve realised, my reactions at speed are not fast enough, I don’t feel safe driving over 50mph, plus when it’s not stressful it’s mesmerisingly dull and I get scared in case I completely switch off and fail to notice something really important!

But that’s the thing about showers, you have stand up! The beauty of the bath is being able to lie down in it!

Premfove · 11/10/2023 00:12

Six times a day?! That's unhinged - just wait until the evening and do it once. The sky won't fall down I promise.

Lonesomefetter · 11/10/2023 00:15

Not smoking fags, I'm on my second day of vapes and by God I would like that noxious, gross fag. Such a bizarre addiction.

Food. Wish I liked food more and also more food. I’m never hungry, I sometimes feel dizzy and nauseous, and then realise I need to eat something. I only eat once a day and often that’s just a sandwich. Can only eat chicken as every other meat makes me sick. Don’t like dairy, again makes me ill. I do drink copious amounts of tea though. Was forced to clear my plate as a child and if I didn’t, whatever was left was served repeatedly the next day, and the next until eaten. I was very often sick, there’s nothing like vomiting to put you off your food. All three of my adult children eat most things, they just have normal preferences. I have never made them eat anything they didn’t like, or made them clear their plates. I never made food an issue. I would love to enjoy my food.

Sewing, specifically with a machine . I've bought two sewing machines in the last ten years, hoping the second one would be simple enough to use that I don't fly into a massive rage at the first sign of something going wrong, but it still happened. And my DD would so enjoy it too if only I could help her a bit. Sigh.

JaneFarrier · 11/10/2023 12:04

@HRTQueen I used to like yoga OK, but the last time I did classes I knackered my knee (and it's never fully recovered despite physio). Felt such a twit - yoga is supposed to be gentle and I knew that I have dodgy connective tissue and shouldn't push stretches too far, but apparently I can't tell how far is too far.

Halloween and the whole Trick or Treat nonsense.
Scary movies: what's the point in making yourself terrified?
And don't start me on Christmas.....

I think some people don’t really understand the thread.

It’s things you wish you liked more. Not things you don’t get.
