What's something you wish you could like more?

Is there anything you really wish you could like more than you do?

Mine's gardening. I have friends who swear by how therapeutic it is, and I really do like having a garden, but I mostly find doing it an exhausting, frustrating chore. I feel like apologising in advance to any plant I bring back from yet another trip to the garden centre, its chances of survival are so slim.
And as for grow your own - I've successfully brought up three kids but it seems I don't have what it takes to nurture a single tomato to fruition. Sigh...

Mushrooms, I love the recipes, I love the look of them, I’d love to learn to forage for them. Unfortunately I find the taste and texture vile despite trying to learn better.

This.

Being a parent to teenagers..... some days I just feel like a verbal punchbag for them. And I hate washing up every day LoL LoL

OhDoSitDownAndShutUp · 10/10/2023 20:11

Housework - tedious and pointless
Cooking - time-consuming and thankless
other women - bitchy and judgemental
Going round shops - boring, usually unrewarding.

evtheria · 10/10/2023 20:12

Hanging out with people irl

Mummadeze · 10/10/2023 20:14

Salad and porridge!

Meowandthen · 10/10/2023 20:14

Baths, peas and martinis.

Baths are boring, always hated peas, and wish I liked martinis as classic ones look so classy.

I love gardening.

Baths! Ugh! Your face gets all hot and sweaty, even when the water is freezing, and you need all manner of paraphernalia (special bath tray, lighting, bath gel or bubbles, neck pillow) to get the 'enjoyable' experience people go on about. Give me a strong shower and 20' of standing immobile underneath it.

Totally!

A while ago we stayed in a hotel with a huge fancy bath. Thought I’d give it a go for a change. Took ages to fill, another 10 mins to get the temperature right, and I’d had enough after a further 5 minutes!
Had to have a shower afterwards to actually feel clean and felt guilty about the waste of water.

Confused I love a bath! My face doesn't get hot and sweaty, and I don't need anything more than I do for a shower! Bubbles are nice, but I've never in my life used a bath tray or neck pillow. What do you mean by 'lighting'?! My bathroom has a light...

Ourshoddyhouse · 10/10/2023 20:35

I wish I could be more enthusiastic about housework, I love a nice tidy house... Getting to that point not so much.

MissingMoominMamma · 10/10/2023 20:38

People.

I would love to enjoy being around other people, but in reality I get tired very easily. Some people are easier than others though.

evtheria · 10/10/2023 20:40

@AllProperTeaIsTheft If you mention you don't enjoy baths, a lot of people insist you try it 'by candlelight' 🤣 You might be a bath purist - no neck support, big light on... truly someone to be both feared and respected.

Cloverforever · 10/10/2023 20:42

Exercise, and watching sport. So many hobbies involve sport.

Early mornings - mainly because it means getting out of my lovely warm bed.

WinterDeWinter · 10/10/2023 20:51

Camping. Jesus fucking Christ.

girlfriend44 · 10/10/2023 20:59

How do you keep fit then? Body needs exercise to keep well.

Movement doesn’t have to mean a gym or organised sport.

Playing...board games, kid games, running around with the kids etc. I desperately want to be the mum that is high energy and fun but I find games really really boring.

Argh I was thinking that just today. The younger one is in a board game stage and their dad is all for it as it makes a change from screens, but the two kids argue over which game they're going to play, and the actual games are mind-numbing and take forever. The only one I actually like is Trivial Pursuit but nobody wants to play that with me!

JaneFarrier · 10/10/2023 21:32

@Lincslady53 I didn't dislike exercise when I was younger. I ran and went to the gym and did Olympic style weightlifting. I am basically built like a female hobbit but I was a fit one, despite being hypermobile. Then I had to stop some of it when I was pregnant because of joint laxity, and I've really never quite got myself back on track. Every time I start a proper program of exercising again, I injure myself (because of the hypermobility, not from pushing myself too hard). I'm tired of setting myself back.

I do walk and cycle daily, not as much walking as you because I am pushed for time (children and a full-time job). But I feel like I'm just slowly losing condition despite this and I worry what old age will be like if I don't find something that works better.

Physio pilates has been recommended but I've not yet found a class I could make it to, and if I'm honest, I don't really like classes as following demonstrations and verbal instructions is not my best skill... I know I should though.

sadaboutmycat · 10/10/2023 21:48

Crafting. No hobbies at all other than running/ walking 😩

longtompot · 10/10/2023 21:51

Heights. Currently watching Stand Up To Cancer - Don't Look Down and I could cry. I would love to go to the top of a tall building and look down and not feel sick.

Exercise. I wish I had been more serious about it when at school, and continued it through my life.

ShouldGoToBed · 10/10/2023 21:53

@wildwoodflour you should probably stop going along with your DP on football outings - just tell him you’d rather not!

Clarich007 · 10/10/2023 22:24

Children.I just don't know what to do with them, they seem like little aliens to me.
Despite having lots of kids in the family I haven't had any experience over the years as I was always at work.
The latest baby just screams when she sees me so that doesn't help.
Now cats and kittens are totally different.I have all the time in the world for them, and I know exactly what to do with them😬

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 10/10/2023 22:32

Yoga - I just find it so boring tho I know it’s good for you

gardening - possible spiders and boring

also whoever wrote camping - im with you 100%

Notbridezilla · 10/10/2023 22:52

Children. I’m childfree by choice but have quite a few friends with kids. That’s obviously fine but when they expect me to be interested in the minutiae of their snot monster’s life… no thanks
